How do I find out if I have the latest Exchange service pack? How do I find out if I have the latest service packs for all of SBS for that matter?

I think (and that could be the problem lol) that I had downloaded and installed them all, but I wanted to re-verify. The only problem with that is I couldn't figure out how to check what service pack I had and where to check if there were any later service packs available.

1) Exchange 2000
Open E2K System Manager, expand Servers in the left tree,
then right click on your E2K-Server and open properties.
You will see on register General your Service Pack an Build status.

2) Windows 2000
Open "MSINFO32" in Start-Run and goto System-overview in
the left tree. On the right you see Version : your Service Pack an
Build status

You can upgrade each SBS2K product with its own ServicePacks.

In fact... even if you have all SPs you should apply SBS SP1a (or SP1 +
Win2k SP4). SBS SPs have SBS-specific hotfixes that are not included on the
individual SPs.

Check it out:

Hi there,
Just had a look at the link javier gave.
I am running SBS 2000 sp1 so apparantly I dont need to download sp1a (seems
a bit odd)
Apparantly I am running Windows VM (although I dont know if I need it or
what it is doing)
I have window 2000 SP3 so I need to load SP4

My question is
1) should I download SP4 and run it or should I just use the 'Windows
update' icon in the start menu which tells me I have '40' updates to
install.
2) Is it a good idea to use the windows update icon regularly with SBS

Many thanks, David

You could do either way. If you decide to use WU... remember to stop
Exchange and AV services beforehand.

Personally, I don't like to run WU on the server. I prefer to download
things and install them manually... I'm sorta a control freak. However, I do
know that people use WU successfully (as long as they do what I told you on
#1).

I live life a bit more dangerous than some and just WU on the server
without stopping anything. Maybe not wise but sometimes I have to get
hit with the 2x4 before I get it.

I Start-Run and type winver at servers and workstations to get service
pack levels.

Javier,

So, if one installs them manually vs. using WU, then they don't have to stop Exchange services? I use WU, and I do stop Exchange services, but I do not stop AV services. What are AV services?

though I still try to remember to stop any unnecessary services, including
AV (Anti-Virus), before going to WU on the server for client systems I've
been riding the edge on the LoungeAN SBS2000 and just sending her off
without preperation, no problem recently.
