I have a major issue. I'm running SBE, the exchange
server has reached it's 16 gig level. Is there any way to
increase this limitation or do I have to start having the
users store their mail locally?

You can temporarily increase the limit, but you will really need to do some
cleaning. Make sure that users do clean out the Deleted Items. Also, saving
attachments to a harddisk could help a lot.

813051 how to temporarily increase the exchange 2000 16-gigabyte database

Hi Scott!

The only way to overcome this limitation would be to get the migration pack
and the upgrade Exchange Std to Exchange Enterprise (read a lot of $$$$).

I would impose limits on your user's email accounts and make them
delete/archive old stuff to get that number down!

That is a limit of Exchange Standard edition. Going to Enterprise can
be very expensive. How many users and what is your line of business?
The line of business question leads to why are you bumping into that
ceiling?. Lots of users? Packrats? Lots of email sent with
attachments? One thing that can cause a major waste of space is if
you have Journal turned on. It saves a copy of every office file you
open. I try to turn that feature off at each user to save space. You
can right click on the user mailbox and choose properties. Click on
folder size to see where the problem folders are. You may find lots of
old stuff in deleted items or maybe some old folders that can be
emptied.

Storing mail locally is a problem. If their computer dies then they
have no backup. Some folks may archive locally mail over 3 months or 6
months or whatever makes sense.
