Hi,

I was asked to recover personal and public folders (edb) off an Exchange
2003 server.
The Windows 2003 on which it's installed can be accessed. However, I was
told that the Active Directory has been removed "by mistake".

I'm planning on installing a Windows 2003 with Exchange and copying the edb
files over.
I saw a few MS kb articles which refer to ESEUTIL.
I will most probably go with the MS instructions.

Any articles that I can be refered to or guidelines that you might have is
appreciated.

Thanks

Greg

With SBS2000 I had a similar issue when I only had the .edb and .stm folders
of exchange, not a lot else. There is possibly a neater way of doing it but
by a process of trial and error I was able to set up a new server with the
same user names as the old server. When using the user setup wizards, I did
_not_ create a mailbox for the user.

In exchange system manager I expanded to First storage group and dismounted
the new mailbox and public folder stores. I then pasted and the salvaged
edb and stm files into the MDBData folder of exchange in Program files. Back
in exchange systme manager, expanding the mailbox store and Mailboxes I was
then confronted with lots of red crosses against each individual mailbox.
right clciking those allowed me to reconnect to individual users.

I then promptly did a backup using Exmerge of all mailboxes to .pst files
but at that point users had got the majority of stuff back, but permissions
to shared bits needed to be reset. A bit of fiddling in a user's outlook
wiht public folders backing up that to a .pst file too ensured I could get
everything back neat and tidy.

Of course it took a while as I needed a temporary server to work with! No
doubt someone has a better way that I could have done it.

The second article is the one support walks you through.
