Hello,

hopefully someone will be able to help or suggest something to help me out.

We have been recently bought out by a larger company who have taken over our
domain and email. Previously the email fed directly to exchange, but now it
is pop3 based.

Exchange has been removed (but still have sbs2000 running - therefore
exchange licening still ok). I was wondering about reloading exchange to
manage/share clandars, contacts, etc. We seem to have los a lot of
functionality with the change (we don't even have a 'staff' email list
anymore.

My question is..... Can exchange be accessed from outlook, along with mail
gathered from pop3 accounts (without a 'global' email address). I just want
staff to have the tools they had before.

any suggestions appreciated.

My first suggestion would be to ask your new owners to be a little more
understanding. Couldn't they just have fed your email to Exchange? Anyway
politics aside....
You can setup Outlook / Exchange as per usual. Dont configure the POP3
Connector. Instead add a service called Internet Mail to Outlook on each
Workstation. This allows retrieval of mail from POP3 account.

Remove nospamme from email address to reply.

Yes. You can configure Outlook to interact with an SBS/Exchange _and_
a pop3 server simultaneously. Just add another account/service in your
outlook.

BTDT.

Why not reload Exchange and use the SBS POP3 connector to download the
respective user's emails to their Exchange mailbox? Really all the
difference you're talking about is changing from SMTP incoming to POP3. No
need to do away with Exchange at all...

Regards,

David

Thanks to for the suggestions. didn't think that it would be so
straightforward. I will try the 3 options suggested. I will report back.

The ideal one is exchange getting all the user's mail and processing it.

Will then be able to back it up then (my boss was not impressed when he was
told that we could not archive email) and get the functionality that we have
lost.

thanks again

Selwyn

Selwyn, please post back what happens after you resolve this. It'd be
useful for a client of mine, I think.

Thanks,

Sorry for the delay in response...

Installed the pop3 connector, configured it to 'grad' all email addresses
and set up the aliases, then bingo, AOK.

Did forget to set the user's primary email address to the 'external domain'

all went smoothly and the boss is happier.

thanks to all who had suggestions
