    - Strange errors in Event Logs These errors are showing up in the event logs and when I go to log off of OWA getting the 500 Server error. I have been to the KB and followed the article on creating the application for the C:\Exchsvr\Bin folder. Errors: W3SVC Event ID 36 The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT'. The error was 'The server process could not be started because the configured identity is incorrect. Check the username and password. DCOM Event ID 10004 DCOM got error "Overlapped I/O operation is in progress. " and was unable to logon .\IWAM_SHIDLERSERVER2 in order to run the server: {3D14228D-FBE1-11D0-995D-00C04FD919C1} Any help would be greatly appreciated. I should add that I have checked the local computer and domain policies to make sure that IUSER_MACHINENAME and IWAM_MACHINENAME have log on as batch job permissions as well.     - ISA 2000 with SBS2k3 and Exchange I have just installed a fresh SBS2k3 box with ISA. E-mail has stopped coming in after installing the ISA server.     - Trying to Migrate 2000 Server to 2003 Server Set up a 2003 server and then brought all the files from 2000 server over to it. All the files became read only and could not take the read only attribute off for the workstations. Tried to set the new server up as a part of the 2000 domain and adprep wouldn't work for either the forest or the domain.     - Idiots guide to VPN and remote admin required We currently have an SBS4.5 server on a dialup ISDN line. I can remotely access and administer the server by dialling in (then getting dialled back), logging in and running our remote access software called NetOp (similar to PCAnywhere). If I need to see the workstation desktops that have NetOp installed on, I temporarily enable port forwarding (naughty I know) on the server so I can connect to their IP addresses I am about to get a NON NAT (one IP address) router based broadband package from Demon internet (UK) and upgrade the server to SBS2000 and clients to XP Pro. How can I remotely admin the Server and clients on this new network? Will terminal services only allow me to "see" the servers desktop? Will I still need NetOp to see the client desktops? I have set up VPN and various packet filters on my test server at home so I am fairly familiar with ISA. But I have never played with terminal services or any remote software over my VPN connection. Also I am unable to test how putting a NON NAT router between my SBS2000 server and the internet will affect any of this. If anyone could offer any advice or pointers, I would appreciate it.     - Public Calendar in Outlook using Exchange I am an Exchange novice and I have a question.     - exchange & ISP email server customer recently purchased a new domain name and requested that entire website and email services be moved to new domain name. the site is hosted at an ISP and creating the new domain, moving the site and redirecting the old domain name to the "new" site worked very well. The problem is that, internally the customer is running SBS2000/exchange/ISA/DNS/DHCP and all related service on his local DC server. His employees use OUTLOOK 2000 in and Exchange model for email. The users are not receiving email now, and I cannot find where to make adjustments to access the ISP based mail server, mail.newdomain.com. not having email is a BIG problem! as he runs an internet based auto sales company. However, the various configurations I've tried so far do not work. I must be missing something... As a first step I wanted to be able to ping from the remote office to the Main Office Router over the VPN. Even this is not working. Here are the routes that I added: On Remote Workstation: route add 192.168.2.0 mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1 On Remote router: Destination LAN IP: 192.168.2.0 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1 Hop Count: 1 Interface: LAN (I'm assuming it must be LAN since it has to go over the VPN connnection) ping from remote workstation to 192.168.2.1 (Main Office Router) fails.     - Error 425: using IIS I have a FTP site that connects to a directory set up on my server (SBS 2000). I can connect and upload or download files to it using IE locally and from my home. However, some customers can connect to it using a FTP program (Cute), but get an error when uploading files. Here is the error: "425 Cannot open data connection". When I look up the error in the Microsoft KB it says to update the server to the latest SP. The server has all the up-to-date SPs and patches on it. I started having this problem after upgrading to a new server box (just hardware), but all the settings are the same except ISA has packet filtering enabled. Can anyone help me with this problem?     - ISP DNS problems - can SBS DNS cache dns lookups? As subject my ISP has some ongoing problems with their DNS servers. Problem appears as intermittant access to web sites from clients, even those previously accessed in the same Explorer session. I though that either the client (win2kpro sp4) or SBS2k would have the ip's cached but obviously not. Something else I thought I understood but don't! That implies that every url request is served by the isp's dns? I thought SBS DNS would do that... Have I screwed up somewhere?     - Move OWA from port 80 Hello, Is there some way to move OWA off of port 80? Here's what I need... Our intranet sites (which are all under the default website in IIS) need to be available without having to log on internally. Currently, since we've opened port 80 for OWA and required authentication, our websites require authentication (as do our Access Db which don't work). Intranet sites should not be available through the web only locally (http://servername/website.html not http://publicIPaddress/websites.html).     - Outlook has dissappearred from choices of software to install I have a client who called the other day because she went to set up a new computer with software from the SBS Add software wizard. The Fax client and the Firewall client was still there but not Outlook. I added the path back into the Software Available but when it tries to run on the client workstation it comes back with an error saying it cannot verify the path or location. I can access that location by browsing to it and running the setup program from there and Outlook installs fine but not through the script.     - Password Expiration As the users logon, they are being told that their password will expire in X days. I don't want the passwords to expire. I know that I can change every user's account setting to "password never expires". I'm try to change it on the server so that passwords are not set to expire. On the server, I've gone into Domain Security Policy and set the Max and Min password age to not defined. Users are still being told that their password will expire when they logon.     - Remote Desktop Management Hello, SBS2K. I was wondering what the general feeling is out there for the right way to implement remote desktop management. Naturally, I use Terminal Services to control the server via VPN, but in terms of the desktops, what is the best solution. Most of my clients run Win2000 though a few are running XP. I have put into place Remote Desktop Sharing through Net Meeting in the past, but this seems to be kind of quirky. I have also heard of TightVNC but don't know much about it. I also know that in XP, you can remotely share the desktop, but haven't really messed around with it. Here is what I would really like to do: Sometimes, I want to be able to control the user's desktop while they are logged in so that they can watch. An example of when I would use this is if I would show that user how to install a printer or something similar. The other thing I would like to do is be able to log in remotely to do routine maintenance such as defragment the drives. Any ideas on the best solution? We (admins) would like to use CPU power for some calculations when users are logged off. There's a built and running Service Application, and right now it is started remotely and has "net stop (...)" in logon script.     - Tables in ms2000 word I have a problem with a formula in ms word 2000, I have a table imported from another file comprising of title in first row then 4 rows of figures then a row below that for the result, to calculate the sum is no problem, but when i try to calculate the average it is averaging 5 rows ie the four rows with numbers plus the top row where the title is and obviously the answer is wrong.     - Web page Access Hello, I have a certain web page we cannot access from the internal LAN. We are running SBS 2000 that is configured to use 2 network cards. We also use a Netscreen Firewall. I have placed a network hub between the server's external network card and the Netscreen firewall. Externally. the page is on a Custom port of 8443. We have placed a rule in the firewall just in case. If I attach my notebook to the network hub (far side of SBS server) the page is accessible through the firewall. I have disabled ISA packet filtering on the SBS server, and the page is not working correctly. All we receive is four little return characters on screen. Can anybody shed any light on this subject.     - Lost emails Hi All, Having followed the instructions on KB 319356. Emails for one of the domains stopped being delivered to the users mailboxes, but they were downloaded from the pop3 mailbox. I have now rectified that problem but I cannot find were the undelivered emails have gone. I have not received any non delivery reports, and am wondering if they have been stored some where or just disappeared in to cyberspace. Can anyone shed any light on this? TIA Paul.     - Symantec AV on SBS 2K Ok, I have Symantec Corporate Edition 8.1 for SBS and I have installed AV for clients, server and exchange. Usually that would be good enough but I wanted to take advantage of the Anti Spam features in the SMTP Gateway product ( I can't wait for Version 2003 of SBS with anti-spam support). Has anyone installed this Gateway protection on SBS2k? It is an SMTP server in its own right which intercepts and scans all inboud/outbound mail, so once installed would AV for exchange be excess to requirements?     - XP-proclient can't access internet via sbs2k proxy server I am confronted with installing a pc fitted out with XP- pro, via the "magic disk" I added the computer to the SBS2000 domain.     - 2 ISDN routers and using alternative gateway Hi, I have the following setup: Internal LAN - SBS box: 192.168.16.2 Second NIC: 192.168.2.1 ISDN Router 192.168.2.1 This all works fine - but not having broadband we have a 1:1 contention ratio 128K ISDN connection from 8am-6pm. Overnight this drops to a 5:1 contention ratio - which our ISP gives us a second phone number for. Unfortunately the router does not allow for a backup ISDN number or alternative dialling schedules (a Draytek Vigor - which otherwise I like) or any way of remotely altering the number I was wondering if it was possible to place a second router (192.168.2.3) connected to the Second NIC in the server and add in an additional gateway to this LAN connection. How would tis work - if it failed to get out on one router would it try the other (this is what I would like as the day / night phone numbers will not connect outside their allocated time). Internal LAN - SBS box: 192.168.16.2 Second NIC: 192.168.2.1 ISDN Router -day 192.168.2.1 192.168.2.3 ISDN router - night When using the SBS internet connection wizard it asks for my router IP address - this is set as 192.168.2.1 - would this cause a problem with the second router at night ?     - Documentation of Sites Last week I posted a question regarding if there was any software to document sites, I had no responses so I assume that there is probably no such software. The types of thing we want to doco is, Internet details and passwords, any special considerations when installing proprietary software, etc etc. So I am curious as to the methods that the good folks here use to document their customers sites. One of the reasons I want to standardise this is so that the customers have adequate information to give to someone else to manage the site should anything happen to myself or any of the staff.     - FTP Hi, I have an application (CA E-Trust AV 7.0) running on a Windows 2000 SBS Server. Unfortunately the FTP update service fails and in fact I cannot access FTP sites via the browser either. In addition some other sites are also not available such as https. I have stopped ISA (behind hardware firewall) in case that was interfering but to no avail.     - Third party application automatically closes in seconds. Hi The Small Business Server 2000 system( with 10 CALs) was login as Administrator. 3rd party accounting software closes. Antivirus software closes. I tried to install win2000 sp4, it unzip ok but closes as I was stepping thru the UI. Wordpad and notepad run fine. Recently, we added 3 new HP workstations on the network, and setup terminal service for couple of PCs in a WAN. Server get warning about nearing the per server resources.     - calling all web admins I am looking into co-locating a web server for a client and am wondering if anyone has used SBS2000 strictly as a web server? I am contemplating installing a "slim" version of SBS (ie. only ISA, SQL and IIS) as a web server. Mostly, because of three factors: 1. They have an additional SBS2000 license 2. SQL is included 3. Familiarity I have limited experience with hosting this high end of a website and traffic and dont want to make a mistake. Eventually they want to use SQL for customer reports and orders (shopping cart information). Their website is currently in html and they do not forsee changing this particular site to be database driven (except maybe the cart as mentioned). I am thinking if I lock down ISA to allow HTTP/HTTPS and an admin port, combined with patching IIS and the rest of the box and stay on top of it, that it might run pretty smooth. Currently, the website does 40gb/month transfer and has about 6gb of web material (high end graphics mostly, and also stuff that will be thinned out during the conversion) I have been looking into and comparing some of the *nix flavors for hosting websites with MYSQL but have even less experience with these boxes. I use and install OpenBSD but dont have any experiences outside of that OS. If anyone has experience working with high end commerce websites like this I would greatly appreciate any insight as to what you have found.
