Move Pagefile.Sys
Hi all.
Server -> SBS 2000
I have 600 MB free space on C: drive. All the backups are running just fine.
Could I move the PageFile.sys from C: drive to D:, without any problem?
When I move it from C: to D:, SBS tells me that there will be no information for dumping.
This situation would be temporary, because we are thinking in buying a new server.
Thanks a lot in advance.
Best regards,
Joaquim. Tag: Exchange Performance Tag: 159858
Microsoft Office?
Hi there,
Does anyone know what the licence issues are with Microsoft Office 2000 OEM
edition, on a corporate network?
We are looking at buying about 7 more computers to add to our SBS domain,
are we allowed to use the OEM version instead of the retail version on these
new computers?
Thanks in advance

SBS-2003 Slooow
We have 2 x SBS-2003 (one English and one Dutch) on 2 different locations.
Both Pentium IV-2.8 GHz and 512 Mb memory. One is for 2 users and the other
for 10 users. With ADSL.
The problem is that when the servers are just started they work fine, but in
a few days sending e-mail is getting slower. Sending a Word document takes
normally a few seconds, but after a few days it takes about one minut.
Restarting the server solves this problem.
Any ideas ?
Marty
We think that SBS-2003 is slower than SBS-2000, not only with sending
e-mail. Can anyone agree with this ? Tag: Exchange Performance Tag: 159854

Local Policy & Remote Desktop Connection
Local Policy & Remote Desktop Connection
Our Network is composed of a Windows 2000 SBS Server and all Workstations are running Windows 2000 OS ...
Recently, we have purchased two workstations with Windows XP Professional and using a VPN connection, and then the Remote Desktop Connection the Windows XP Professional users can log to their Desktop with no problems when they are out-of-office ...
I have upgraded a couple of workstations from Windows 2000 to Windows XP Professional ... Then tried to log remotely using a VPN connection and access the upgraded workstions using Remote Desktop Connection, but I get the following message when I try to log to the workstation:
"The local policy does not permit you to logon interactively"
When I logged as a local Administrator to that specific workstation, I found that under Administrative Tools, Local Security Policy, Local Policies, User Rights Assignment, Log on Locally everything is set correctly in terms of the Users and Groups which are allowed to access this machine (Administrator / Users / Everyone ... etc.)
I have also checked the second workstation which I have upgraded to Windows XP Professional and the same problem presist ...
Also, I have used NTRights.exe to force the "Log on Locally", but no success ...
Kindly help me with that issue as I don't want to go through the route of clean installation of the Wondows XP Pro and all the applications ...
Thank you in advance for your cooperation ...

Description: Fully patched versions of Internet Explorer
reportedlycontain the following vulnerabilities that are being exploited
in thewild to compromise client systems. (a) Internet Explorer
successfullyprocesses a webserver response that redirects the location
of a resourceto a file on the client system. Note that this file can be
accessed inthe security context of the "Local Computer Zone". (b)
Internet Explorercontains a cross-domain vulnerability that can be
triggered whenhandling a frame, and a "modal dialog box" that is invoked
from theframe. These vulnerabilities can be exploited by a malicious
website toexecute arbitrary code on a client system. The technical
details and theexploits have been publicly posted.Status: Microsoft not

UPDATE - YES IT WORKS JUST FINE ON XP WITH IE6 and even works like a
champ on XP sp2]
So I just kicked my workstation at the office and the workstation at
home's Internet explorer to ?high security? settings. What that means is
that I've shut down the scripting and active X to be automatically
blocked at all times. Then if I have a web site that I really trust and
know if an OK site, I add it to ?my trusted site? list. Now this
normally is a pain and a bother.... tools, options, security, internet
zone, add sites, blah blah... way way way too cumbersome. Well not
anymore! My MVP buddies showed me this gem --
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/previous/webaccess/pwrtwks.mspx
This little IE addition adds a quick shortcut under ?Tools? for ?add to
trusted sites?. I just did this to a couple of people at the office and
here at home and showed them all they have to do when they get to a web
site that they really ?need? to have working [like a business site] they
can add the site to the trusted zone and hit ?refresh? and voila.
Very nice. Very much safer out here.
I've also adjusted my "trusted zone" to not be "low" and instead is now
"medium" so it prompts me instead of automatically scripting. And add
sites to the trusted zone SPARINGLY.

(2) MODERATE: Oracle E-Business Suite SQL Injection
VulnerabilitiesAffected: Oracle E-Business Suite versions 11i, 11.5.1 to
11.5.8Oracle Applications version 11.0Description: Oracle E-Business
suite offers a set of applications toautomate business processes such as
marketing, customer services,supply-chain management etc. The pertinent
business information istypically stored in a single database, and
accessed via the webfront-end offered by the E-Business suite
applications. This suitecontains multiple SQL injection vulnerabilities.
These flaws can beexploited via malicious HTTP requests to execute
arbitrary SQLstatements and procedures against the back-end database,
possiblyresulting in the compromise of the entire database. Note that
theInternet facing web servers hosting the E-Business suite
applicationsface the maximum risk. Very limited technical details
regarding how toexploit the flaws have been posted.Status: Vendor

Server Crashing...help
Our server started crashing last night with the blue screen of death. I don't really understand why. The server hasn't had any changes to it with software or hardware, and has been running flawlessly before this.
When I reboot the server after it crashes, the server is not finding he harddrives. I have a RAID card that the harddrives are connected to. No matter how many times I reboot the server, it doesn't find them. I've found that I have to shut the server off, and then turn it back on in order for it to find the drives.
Could it be a problem with the hardware RAID card?
The only other odd thing that I've seen in the event log are some errors. Here are some of them:
The Closed Caption Decoder service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.
The previous system shutdown at 4:08:55 AM on 6/13/2004 was unexpected.
Then, when the server comes back up, it has these errors:

The BDA MPE Filter service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

Song of the Week - June 12, 2003
Random thoughts before the song ... I'm writing this after spending most of
the day driving around the snow capped mountains west of Colorado Springs.
So many wonderful scenes of the grandeur of the world we live in. You could
just imagine the cowboys on horseback, and the wagons pulling families from
the east to the west. Tomorrow I'll be heading back east to home in Florida.
While driving, I was thinking of the impact that Ronald Reagan had on the
world we live in. Worldwide sentiments seem to echo the same thoughts. I
remember growing up in an era where we had regularly scheduled bomb shelter
practices. We now have a different enemy.
Finally it's my youngest daughter's birthday tomorrow. So I dedicate this
song to all those pioneers in eras past, present and future ...
Wind Beneath My Wings
It must have been cold there in the '50s, (Cold War)
to never know freedom from your fears.
You were content to hold your ground, that's your way,
you always were ready to shed a tear.
So we were the ones who lived in freedom,
while you were the one that took the blame.
A beautiful face without a name -- for so long,
a beautiful smile to hide the pain.
Chorus
Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and ev'rything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.
It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
but because of you the world has changed.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it,
Without you the wall might still remain (Berlin Wall)
Chorus
Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and ev'rything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.
Fly, fly, fly away,
you let me fly so high.
Oh, fly, fly,
so high against the sky, so high I almost touch the sky.
Thank you, thank you, thank God for you,
the wind beneath my wings.

error, the session will be disconnected." error. When I
disconnect the phone line, and try to connect again, I get
the same message !
If I VPN connect first, then TS connection will work !
I'm sure the issue is on the client side but I'm stumped.
I've spent 2 days researching this and haven't found
anyone with this issue.
Any ideas ?

Printing locally from ts - again
Hi
I am really stump on this problem. We connect remotely to our ts at the head
office which is part of a sbs2000 domain. There is an app on the ts that we
would like to print reports off to our hp all in one PSC 750 printer
connected locally via USB. The problem is that ts does not know about this
printer and the printer does not appear in the list of printers available to
ts. I have tried to remotely install printer driver on the ts but as the
printer is not accessible to ts either locally or via LAN, the printer setup
does not complete itself. I have also tried remote desktop connection by
ticking 'printers' under "connect to which local resources" option but that
hasn't helped either.
Could someone please give me step by step instructions to get my local
printer working with the remote ts?
Thanks

Can anyone help or must I reinstall the software again :-(

Group Policy
Hi
I have SBS2000 with windows 2000 and xp clients, I have set the group policy rights so that all the users in the domain should not be able to modify the network properties of their system. This is working with windows 2000 but in the win xp system this is not taking place i.e i am still able to change the network settings like changing the ip address.
I am not able to get the problem and I am new to the group policy.
Please some one help me on this issue I have to implement this on our server soon because some of the users are changing the Ip adress of their system to server ip address and the server will be down

Pop3 connector
Hi, I'm hoping that someone will be able to point me in some direction.
I have 2 test servers one with SBS2000 and the other with SBS2003
Both have ISA server installed and use the same router (at different times)
I have set up the POP3 connector on both to access my email from my ISP.
SBS 2003 works fine - downloads the emails and forwards the to the
appropriate mailbox
SBS 2000 I get the error 12050 and 12052 - doesn't connect to my ISP
I've checked the obvious username and password, as suggest by Ms Knowledge
Base but nothing.
Please help.

IISReset command line options
Hi,
A quick question about the ciisreset command.
KB202013 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;202013
mentions that "The default behavior if no options are specified is to stop
and restart the Web services on the local computer." and with the
"/restart" option for "stops, and then restarts all running Internet
services."
I don't understand the difference. Is there a different to run IISReset
without any option and with the "/restart" option?

imap connection refused
I was recently asked to help fix up an SBS 2k box that had some troubles. I
didn't do too much on the server, although I did run ICW. After I left, all
was working well. Then yesterday I went back, and ended up re-running ICW
again. After I ran it, I was told IMAP was no longer working.
I noted first of all there was no imap filter in ISA. I added one but then
still got a connection refused message.
I try to telnet to port 143 locally from the server, and get * BYE
Connection refused
I restarted the exchange imap service, same problem. Rebooted, same
troubles. Any idea where the issue is?
My only hint, perhaps, is that since there was no packet filter at all in
ISA for port 143, which is interesting, since it used to work for them.
I have no idea...

Terminal server licenses
Hi all,
I am having a problem with a particular user trying to log into our SBS2000
network. I have 2 servers (1 SBS2K and 1 W2K Server in TS APP mode).
All my remote users can successfully create a VPN into our network and use
Remote Desktop Connection on their XP Pro workstations to access our TS
machine except for one employee who can successfully create the VPN but
cannot log into the TS. The error I receive in the TS's log is 'The
terminal server cannot issue a client license'. He is the only one that
gets this error out of all the remote users. His account is setup no
differently from any other remote user. Can anyone offer any assistance.
He is running XP Pro from his home over a cable modem. Other employees have
the same service and have no problem.

Authentication time-out in SBS2K RAS connection
RAS connections fail to connect from various
clients/modems with Event ID 20049:
The user connected to port COM4 has been disconnected
because the authentication process did not complete within
the required amount of time.
The connections work fine from ISDN T/A's to the T/A on
COM3, but analogue clients fail to the analogue modem on
COM4 (above)- a Zoom 56K V92/V90 PCI modem
The only client that will work is connecting via mobile
phone (at 9600 bps)!
It looks like a timing problem as the RD light on the COM4
modem seems to flash slightly before CD comes up
I've tried changing FIFO buffers, port speeds etc but no
luck !
Anyone got any other ideas? Tag: Exchange Performance Tag: 159758
SBS2003 Modem failing to disconnect
Having migrated from a previous version of SBS to SBS2003
we are suffering from the fact that our serial modem will
not disconnect when idle. There is no problem with the
process from the original connection. But as soon as an on-
demand (browser connection) or POP3 mail box check is
initiated there appears to be no way of disconnecting the
service other than manual intervention. No exactly what is
need really.

SBS 2k and Exchange 2003
We currently have SBS 2000 with Exchange and have setup an additional
domain controller with Windows 2000 in a remote site.
We want to buy Exchange 2003 to install on our new remote DC so that
we can move some of the mailboxes so that our remote users get faster

Is this going to be possible or would we need to buy Exchange 2000?
In other words, is Exchange 2003 compatible with Exchange 2000?

Disable Folder Move / Change / Rename
I work for a very small engineering company, and can use a mouse, so I am the default IT department. This is probably a simple fix, but I can't figure out how to do it. Any help appreciated
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On my server, I have a project drive with project folders. The folders are named the project numbers, like this
04032.
04032.
04032.
04033.
04034.
And so on. What happens is, someone accidentaly drags a folder into another folder, and then some days or weeks later, that project appears to be gone forever and I have to serach for it and replace it
What I want to do is set the permissions so that users have full access to the folder contents - including file creation, modification and deletion - but can't change, move delete or rename the project folder (above). So far, any time I try to do that, they can no longer write to the folder

Printing Permissions Problem
Hi all
A really strange one!
A user gets an error message when printing from the sage
application "the calling application refused the spooler
request"
Ive tracked it down to a windows log on problem in that
if I log onto her machine and she logs onto Sage, she can
print Ok. I have checked her permissions and they are
the same as everybody elses. She can print from any
other application ok. The only way I can get her to be
able to print is by giving her Administrator rights which
I don't want to do for too long!
Any ideas?? I have recreated her local profile,
reimported her machine, I'm clean out of ideas!!
She is a new user and was only set up this week using the
new user wizard although another user who has been on the
system for a while also has the same problem but doesn't
need to print from sage as much.
Thanks for any help!

SBS 2003 CAL and VPN issue
Hi all,
Have SBS 2003 with 10 CAL's installed to support 7
users/workstations. Am trying to set-up a VPN connection
so that one user can access the server from home over
Internet.
Using Routing and RAS service as VPN server. When XP Pro
client machine tries to connect the VPN - get the
following error:
Error 71: No more connections can be made to this remote
computer at this time because there are already as many
connections as the computer can accept.
System Event Viewer on the SBS2003 server then shows:
A user was unable to connect on port VPN4-127. No more
connections can be made to this remote computer because
the computer has exceeded it's client license limit.
I have had the VPN connection working once using the
administrator account for testing. It worked fine until I
renamed the administrator account. I have
deleted/recreated the VPN interface, renamed the
administrator account back and deleted/recreated the VPN
interface again. Even created a new VPN interface from
scratch with it's own user account, but get the same
message. Yet server management - Licensing shows Maximum
usage at 7. I know the maximum useage is not an
accurate/live guide and so have tried doing all of this at
8am before anyone else is using the server and all other
machines are switched off - still I get the same problem.
Any ideas?

Workstation locked
We have one workstation, which was locked by using serwer rules (policy).
Now we have updated serwer to SBS2003 and we noted that there is no way to
access the workstation (it needs to lock into the old domain). We cannoy of
course change the SBS domain now.
Does anybody know how to access the workstation?
I triesd to do it by reinstaling windows (only repairing). It did not work.
I also tried different other methods.
The system (Windows 2000) is loading till the loging window appears and then
when I try to log it tells that internal rules does not allow logging.

After completing the migration to SBS2003 from SBS2000 onto a new server, I have one chap who is using Windows Me and is unable to synchronise his password. He has been able to change his network password, but it will not allow the windows password to be changed. I did not migrate the computer accounts during the migration, but I have a couple of other users on Windows 98 and they have not had this problem. He is able to log in and work OK, but everytime he starts up the machine, it asks him for his windows password and he has to press cancel. Is there any way to reset the password in Windows Me?

Multiple companies on one SBS2K
A client has a group of companies in the same business
park that they want to connect through their one sbs2k
server at the main office to the internet. The links to
the various companies will mostly be wireless and
terminate in the main office server room switch. However
security privacy between the various companies is
necessary.
I thought of assigning different subnets to the companies
to maintain privacy.
Now the questions:
Can ISA provide privacy between the companies, or should
a 3rd party firewall be setup for this?
Can DHCP cope with maintaining the IP ranges for all the
companies and how would this be done? or should each
company have it's own DHCP or use static?
Can individual domains be setup for these companies and
can Exchange on SBS2k provide seperate email addresses?
External domain hosting will be used though.
Assistance would be greatly appreciated.

DNS/WINS problem?
I recently setup VPN access to a server running SBS
2000. I used "Configure a Local Virtual Private Network
(VPN)" in ISA. Prior to setting up VPN, I was able to
reference the server by name in all my software
notification and proxy configurations. For example, in
Veritas Backup Exec, I had the SMTP mail server as
SERVER01. In my Trend Micro products I had SERVER01 port
8080 listed as the proxy server. My internal IP is
192.168.16.2 and my external address for my 2nd nic is
192.168.1.2. After setting up VPN, I now have to specify
192.168.1.2 as my SMTP server in Veritas and I must enter
192.168.16.2 as my proxy server along with a proxy
username and password in the Trend products. Also, I
can't get notification to work at all in the Trend
Products. What settings would impact how I specify an
SMTP and/or proxy server? Tag: Exchange Performance Tag: 159714

are addressed to accounts that don't exist.
Where do I look to see how the server is handling mail that shouldn't be

The mail is the right domain, but no such user account. it seems that
perhaps all users are receiving the email when it resolves to none?
