Upgrading a SBS2K to SBS 2003. I backed up all the data and did a NT BAckup
of the exchange database. Let's say I experience exchange problems after the
upgrade, will I have to isntall SBS2K again to get the email working? Just
trying to plan ahead here, hopefully everything goes as planned but it seems
if there were migration problems I would be using exchange 2003 with a
NTBackup of exchange 2000. This is my first SBS2K - SBS 2003 migration, just
trying to plan as best as possible. Thoughts, suggestions, experiences are
all welcome - thanks in advance.

I'm assuming you're doing an in-place upgrade, since otherwise you'd just
have the old 2K box to fall back on as if nothing happened. I would do an
offline backup of your exchange databases to another server or workstation
just to be on the safe side. However, if you've covered all your bases in
the upgrade, I think you're more likely to end up with some non-crucial
problems that can be solved afterward than some kind of all out failure that
would require a reinstall. In any case, if you end up having to reinstall
from backup, you'll be restoring the whole 2K system anyway, right?

My advice would be to read the release notes, getting started guide, and the
"Upgrade Requirement Messages" doc from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/sbs/techinfo/productdoc/alpha.mspx.
Make sure your bios and drivers support Windows Server 2003. At that point,
you should be good to go. If you run into anything, post back. Good luck!
