By default Exchange 2003 in SBS 2003 is setup not to relay.

In the Group recipient policies you simply add domaina.com domainb.net =
etc.

As long as its setup to automatically update the proper email addresses =
will be added to the users in AD

Thats really all there is to it.

Dear Ralph,

Thanks for posting here.

Based on my research, you can configure your Exchange server to accept
emails from multiple domain by following steps:

1. Open "Exchange system manager"-->"Recipients"-->"Recipient policy", in
the right panel, double click the "Default policy"

2. In "E-mail address(Policy)" tab, add all domain name into the list, set
domainB.com as Primary. (When user reply emails in outlook, the primary
address will be automatically added to the mail sender)

3. Open "Active directory users and computers", double click a user
account, click "E-mail addresses" tab to see if the recipient policy has
been applied to the users.

For the error message, please check the following settings:

1. Open "Exchange system manager", navigate to Servers\<Server
name>\Protocols\SMTP\, right-click "Default SMTP virtual
server"-->Properties

2. Click "Access" tab-->"Authentication", check "Anonymous access"-->"OK".
Restart the Default SMTP virtual server.

For more information, please refer:
823153 HOW TO: Work with the Recipient Update Service in Exchange Server
2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=823153

I hope the above information helps.
If you have any concerns, please feel free to let me know.

Have a nice day!

Sincerely,

Jorge Fei

Still looking for answer!

All user settings (DomainA.local, DomainB.com and DomainB.net) correct in
both Recipients Policy and AD User and Computers.

1. SMTP Default Virtual Server settings: I have tried default setting
(Anonymous Access, Basic Athentication, and Intergrated Windows
Athentication) all enabled.
2. SMTP Default Virtual Serve settings: I have also tried (Anonymous
Access) only enabled.

Counld this be an internal DNS MX recored issue? Internally routing of all
E-Mail addresses to all domains works fine. Only external user sending
E-Mail to DomainB.com or DomainB.net addresses gets SMTP 530 error.

Hi Ralph,

Thanks for your reply!

To check if the DNS record is successfully created and maintained by ISP server, please go to http://www.dnsreport.com/ and check if domainB.com &
DomainB.net can be resolved to your SBS server's IP correctly.

In addition, I suggest that you use Telnet to test if SBS server accepts the email sending requests to domainb.com:

In the command prompt, run the following command "telnet <SBS external IP> 25", and then try to use the telnet session to send an internet email:

helo
mail from:<email address>
rcpt to:<test@domainb.com>
data
<type several words>

Re: SBS 2003 Exchange Inbound SMTP 530 Errors by Ralph

Ralph

Thank Wallace,

It is the external DNS MX records that are redirecting request to wrong mail
server, which are the sending SMTP 530 Errors.

Used Nslookup:
C:\nslookup
Default Server: server.domaina.local
Address: Internal DNS Address

>set type=mx
>domainb.net
Server: server.domaina.local
Address: Internal DNS Address

Non-authoritative answer:
DomainB.net MX preference = 5, mail exchanger = domainc.com (Wrong
Domain)
DomainB.net MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = domainy.com (Failover
E-Mail server)

Dear Ralph,

Thanks for the update.

It seems there is some problem with the external DNS record.
Please contact the Domain name service provider to correct the DNS record.
If the domainB.net server uses dynamic DNS service, please update the
record.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to post back.

Have a nice day!
