Hi all

Our SBS2000 server has gone mad and the exchange services
will not start and I am unable to get them to start. I
have tried service packs and hotfixes but no response and
it now all looks doomed! Is there any way of retriving
the mailboxes from the server?? is it a particular file
that stores all the mail data??
Is the file in program files/exchsrvr/mdbdata/priv1.edb
got anything to do with the mailboxes??

Please tell me it is and it's recoverable??

Mark

Mark,

There are 4 Exchange database files that you should make backup copies of
Priv1.edb and Priv1.stm (these are the mailbox store database files which
contain all the contents of mailboxes like messages, calendars, contacts,
ect).
Pub1.edb and Pub1.stm (theses are the public folder store database files
which contact the public folders content.

The default location of these 4 files is in C:\Program
FIles\Exchsrvr\Mdbdata.

I would advise saving a copy of the mdbdata folders to a temporary
directory, in case you need to reinstall Exchange.

Hi Franz,

Could you have a look at my earlier post starting 'Recovering Exchange Data'
from 10th Nov - same sort of thing but the databases don't seem to want to
play ball :-(

Regards,

David

Mark,

Are you doing Exchange aware backups?
