    - Server error 53 I have two SBS servers, one 2000 the the other 2003. Each server has two NICS, one for the wild side and the other for the internal network. Both servers internal NIC is configured with 192.168.16.xxx range address and are plugged into the same switch. One server is a production server that everyone logs into and the other is a test server that few people log into. The problem is when we try to acces the production server using the "NET" command. I was hoping to use a remote share to bring production files into the test environment. When I issue the following "NET" command I get a "System error 53 has occurred." and the command fails. NET USE G: \\192.168.16.2\G password /USER:domainprod\username /PERSISTENT:NO The IP address is the internal NIC card on the production server and "G" is a share name to the "G" drive on that server. "password /USER:domainprod\username" is a valid name and password on the production server. I can ping the address without a problem. Anyone have a clue what is causing the error? I have searched the net and can't seem to get a explanation of what is causing the error. The computer that is failing, is abel to access another remote computer across a VPN connection which is a Windows 2000 Server using basically the same syntax without a problem.     - How can I track user activities on a Windows 2000 Server Good day, I would like to track user activities on a Windows 2000 server that has the role of a file server in our network.     - TServer licencing server, not recognizing added CALS? SBS2K Server + Separate W2K TServer 12 W2K Clients 6 WINXP Clients (some remote via VPN) 20 CALS installed on SBS (10 recently two months ago when we added new clients) All users have access to TServer but rarely more than 6 or 8 at a time. We are getting a "Can Not Connect..." error. I've confirmed that it is because of the maximum number of connections (when I close one it immediately allows the connection that was being refused) I believe that (with W2K and XP clients) the limit of TServer connections is determined by the number of avialable SBS CALS. Is there something that I'm missing? How does the W2K TServer get the licence info from the SBS? I 've seached for licencing posts and become confusder and confusder any direction would be helpful.     - Because of a protocol error detected at the client (code 0x1104), this session will be disconnected Hi, I've been looking at a couple of similar posts about this issue within the groups here in particular one by Crazy but hasn't seemed to have changed the situation after making those registry chages and restring the server. I can't even get to RWW at present (SBS 2003 Server here) -the virtual ports are all configured on the Router OK to pass through and the server certificate is OK too. I have even ran through the Internet Connection wizard again and still no joy. If I try to created a Remote Desktop connection I get the above message.     - Exchange 2000 bandwidth needed Hi, I have the E 2000. We have DSL connection and it takes lots of time for out side client to down load large attachments/images. Should I upgrade to a T1 line.     - Outlook 2003 POP3 problem Under SBS2K in my Outlook 2003 I am also setup to get POP3 mail from 2 other email accounts. I notice that inside Outlook in the email accounts it keeps changing the POP3 incoming mail server to "Localhost" and it appends the incoming mail server address to my user name. This cause me to loose my email connection. When I edit the incoming mail server correctly and remove it from my user name it works. This appears to be an Outlook function and not SB2K.     - Inexplicable loss of functionality I'd appreciate suggestions for troubleshooting a strange issue I'm seeing with a Windows 2000 SBS server. The problem is usually discovered when someone tries to monitor POPcon (a third party POP3 connector), but the following issues prevent me from troubleshooting: The following utilities stop functioning (hang on startup, or when attempting to connect remotely): Event Viewer Internet Services Manager Service Control Manager Network and Dial-up Connections Routing and Remote Access (although the service still accepts connections) Computer Management (loads but items fail or hang) I also tried these command-line tools, but they also hang: netstat net share net start/pause/continue/stop I also tried the following tools from sysinternals: tcpview starts, but displays nothing prcview hangs on starting psservice hangs after displaying the banner I also noticed that IIS does not seem to respond to requests. Also Internet Explorer on the server will not open web sites, but will open local pages. All other services, such as ISA Proxy Server or Terminal Services, seem to operate normally.     - Setting up router with static IP I am trying to set up a Draytek Vigor on an ISP provided static IP but am having problems, my SBS 2000 network is set up as in the article bar the fixed IP details in the router: http://www.smallbizserver.net/Default.aspx?tabid=154 When the router is set up to get a dynamic IP is appears to be find and email and internet work ok, when I set it to connect with its static IP under online status on the router it appears to be connected to the specified Static IP and it looks fine but we cannot get access to the internet and exchange cannot pick up email. I have looked for hours for the way to set it up properly but cannot find anything that works.     - changing user password remotely Hi, I have a site to site VPN connection. In main office I have Active Directory. My remote office users connect to this Active Directory to logon & get authenticated. I have set an option that the password expires in 30 days & after that they have to change the password but the problem is Remote Users are not able to change the logon passwords after 30 days through VPN connection.     - Breakup SBS into separate server I am running SBS 2000 and have purchased the upgrade to 2003 but have not installed it. I checked into the transision pack upgrade to break up the server which is very expensive. I was thinking about just buying Win2003 server and starting over.     - Remote Backup Suggestions Hi all, I have a quick question about remote backup solutions. Management is waiting to implement a remote backup system and I am trying to determine the best course of action as I have never looked any remote services before. Is it better to use a backup provider (ie livevault) or do a remote consisting of maybe a VPN to VPN site connection to lets a local site (my house for example) purchase a backup software that is capable of providing this feature and have a storage at the house. What kinda prices do those services usally run. With the 2nd solution being more expensive at first but no monthly charges occur after the setup is complete. Just looking for ideas.     - SCSI or SATA We want to make some drastic maintenance at our server system. So far of course only SCSI drives were recomended. I am now not too sure if we shall consider SATA drives.     - External HD drives We hare using msmall Dell 400SC several, which has not too much space in it. The system operates on SBS2003 system. Due to small place we intend to place new disk in a new computer case in whioch is only power supply and some fans (and of coures a number of Hard discs. The SCSI controller would be in the main system and the external drives would be connected by an exterlan SCSI cable.     - Disk Quota volume - which files? Hi (This may not be the right forum, so apologies, but it is certainly one of the most 'answered' forums.) I have a user who has half a Gigabyte of disk space showing on her disk Quota's. I can only find a couple of MB in her home folder. She knows not what these files may be, because as far as she is concerned she only makes light use of the PC. How can I tell which files/folders make up this half GB? Thanks in advance.     - SBS exchange 2k outlook sent message headers? Help! I have a matter where I need to produce on paper a copy of an email message sent from a user (client outlook 2002) via SBS exchange 2k to an outside party and printout must include the internet headers. I have the message in a sent items folder in outlook but message options shows an empty internet headers box for all sent items? Any ideas how I can get the headers? I'm obviously missing something here. The message is older than my message tracking expiry in Exchange manager message tracking center, and if if it where would only show the routing and not the header? Any suggestions appreciated..     - error 800 on vpn connect Hello everyone, I am trying to connect from win2kpro to small business server 2000 thru a vpn connection. I installed a second nic on my server and did the ICW and RRAS wizards and enabled ports 1723 and 47. I even did port fordwarding to thru the router(SMC 2804wbr) to forward direct to my server using first the external nic, then the internal nic, then both. and still nothing, I keep getting "Error 800: Unable to establish connection ". I looked in Support.microsoft.com, but was no help. The router is a wireless g router/ap combo and is definetely after 2000 and firmware issue. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Thank You.     - adsl sharing via router We have a very small SBS2000 installation and have a ADSL connection to the internet We have a Netgear DG834GT connected to the ISP and we want to share this connection with our SBS network. I have two questions :- 1. Can we just connect this to our switch? and if so how do we allow users to share this through our SBS server? 2. Can we use a wireless connection from the Router to the Server and share that - we have very little internet traffic only a few emails.     - One time transfer of SBS 2K CALS Hi I am trying to install a 20 CAL add on to our SBS to take it up to 45 CALS. The disk was used on our sister companies SBS which has now been removed. After phoning support and finding out that as the disk had already been used to increase an SBS to 25 the disk needs to be reset. I was given the 0870 6061517 number, unfortunately they didnt understand what I was trying to acheive and gave me the support number.     - Exchange Issue Hi everyone, I have a strange problem that I am not sure what could be causing this. There are certain types of emails that for some reason will not show up in the inbox of a user it is being sent to. I was able to get an example of this email from a user who claimed that no matter what he did he could not receive it from a client. I had him forward it to a external email address so that I can test it. I can send any message from the external email and it goes through fine. I smtp logs show it successful and it appears in the inbox. I then try to send the one I was forwarded.     - W2003 access shares rights To our existing SBS2K network I've added a W2003 server. There seems to be a problem with trying to write to shares on this server. I gave users full rights, no solution. I'm an administrator and owner of the share, and I have the same problem over the network. Same logged on locally with the administrator account. If I use explorer to browse to the UNC path share and write, rights violation. If I use the local disk path d:\share, no problem. There is only a problem with the W2003 server. Luckily it is a DB Server and not a FS server. .I recall reading something of this sorts which happened after a windows update. I don't recall the KB or the problem I researched then.     - PPTP/VPN security I'm allowing only fixed IP adresses to VPN in and set up a TS server session. http://www.securityspace.com in their online security scan can still detect that I'm running PPTP.     - User/exchange/office/Installer Problem I give up. I had a user who needed a zip utility. I downloaded ZipGenius from MajorGeeks. It worked, but he had some problem while printing and then couldn't access his email or run Office programs. I uninstalled ZipGenius, but here is the current situation. He has a Win98 workstation with Outlook 2000 attached to an SBS2K server running Exchange 2K. He has Office 97 professional with Office Small Business 2000 installed over it. (We kept 97 for Access.) He cannot open his mailbox. When he tries to start Outlook, he gets a message that the information store cannot be opened. He also cannot get to his mail from other workstations running either Win98 or XP and Outlook 2000. He can, however, get to his mail from a workstation running Outlook 2003. He also cannot start Word or Excel. He gets an error message saying "The Windows Installer failed to install the program associated with this file." He cannot uninstall Office and can't reinstall Office. I thought it might be a Windows Installer problem, so I tried reinstalling Windows Installer and got a message saying, "The specified service already exists." However, when I logged in as that user on an identical workstation, I got the same problem. Even after I disconnected that workstation from the network, I could not open Word or Excel, which are installed on the local hard drive. I could open them if I logged on as someone else. I can't tell if it's a user issue or a mailbox issue or both. Can't understand why it would affect a locally installed copy of Office on a disconnected workstation, except that I told the machine to copy down user settings when I logged on to that workstation the first time.     - Add domain user to remote PC wiht the DC being available Is it possible to add a new domain user account on a remote XP Pro computer. The DC is an SBS 2000 server. The PC is at a remote office that is NOT bridged or VPN'd to the main office. So, the PC is not able to authenticate with DC. Existing domain users can connect. My problem is I want to create a new domain user. How do I do that when the PC can't find the DC at login? The DC server has a Cisco VPN host. The PC has a Cisco VPN Client on it. However, when I setup the VPN Client option to run VPN first at login, it won't do this. So, there lies my problem. How can I add the domain user without having a network connection/bridge to the DC?     - Two external IP adresses on the NIC To make a TS available over the internet behind the SBS2K server, I used the KB article to set up the ISA server to listen for two IP adresses on the NIC. This functions as expected, only the drawback is that I can't connect locally anymore to the SbS2K desktop. Remotely no problem. Any idea how to solve this?     - Access to shares lost after install of XP SP2 Last December a client of mine got a new laptop and we connected it to the SBS 2000 network. I did not put on the firewall client as using the proxie settings provided everything we needed. I did this with two laptops that they got at that time. Last month, one of them was not able to print and took forever to log in. I discovered it was basicly hanging trying to authenticate and would eventual time out. If the laptop was not connected to the network it logged in just fine with the cached credintials. When I did a run line \\serverName I would normally get a list of shares but it would come up after a long time with a blank window. I did everything I could think of then resorted to building it from scratch. Once I did that it worked fine so I proceeded to load patches and service pack2 and more patches. I then found that I lost my authentication again to the server. So again I rebuilt it and would test authentication after each of the updates. After the Service Pack 2 update was applied, that was when I lost authentication. Is there a patch that needs to be appliced to the SBS 2000 server so that an XP SP2 client can authenticate?     - Pop3 Connector Problem I've been having ongoing issues with my e-mail system. I recently set up multiple POP accounts at my ISP , and account for each of the 8 users on my SBS2000 network. I configured the POP3 connector to pull the e-mail down and all seemed to go fine. Unfortunately, no e-mail ever gets to the mailboxes of the users. I've worked through the troubleshooting steps from Microsoft and it seems that the POP3 connector is downloading the messages properly and tries to deliver them to Exchange but encounters an error. It then proceeds to purge the undelivered mail. The message that I'm getting form the POP3 Connector in the event viewer is: "The SMTP session transcript was: <G>:220 vickery01.VICKERY.local Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service, Version: 5.0.2195.6713 ready at Sat, 10 Sep 2005 22:30:09 -0400 <C>: EHLP vickery01.VICKERY.local <S>: 500 Failed to exchange X-LSA info, closing transmission channel <C>: HELO vickery01.VICKERY.local" The POP3 Connector then generates a NDR status code 400 What am I missing?? I've searched everywhere I could think of and can't figure this out.     - Web Site BEHIND SBS/ISA server Hi Everyone: An old issue with a site has resurfaced. And I am stumped. When this site was setup, the owners chose to setup a web server in house. This is NOT the default web site in SBS, but a different installation on a different computer. Both the SBS server and the NT4.0 server/website have two nics. Intermally, the SBS server is 192.168.16.2, and the NT40/webserver is 192..168.16.3 The router forwards the mail to the SBS server 192.168.1.2, and port 80 to the NT40.webserver 192.168.1.3 Recently the DSL provider has changed the clients static IP address, so I changed the static ip on the wan side of the router. Now, when users try to access the website www.clientname.com from the outside, they are challanged for a user name, password and domain. I remember a long, difficult, and many hours of phone with MS PSS to resolve this, but don't have good notes. As I remember, it has to do with filters in ISA, although why is a bit of a mystery. I have SBS 2000 with Exchange 2000. My business is mostly email and SQL
based. I am starting to have performance issues with Exchange 2000. I have
set up a Windows 2000 server that is much more powerful and it is now used as
my Backup Exec system and Antivirus master. I want to put Exchange 2003 on
it and retire the Exchange 2000 on the SBS2000 system (the SBS2000 server
will then be my AD controller and my SQL server). I do not intend to put AD
on the new server because from what I have read, SBS won't work properly in
that configuration.

Will I run into any issues with that scenario?

Yes the whole SBS
No Different (Windows, Exchange, SQL Seerver) parts plus
licenses......yikes.

Perfomance issues, you didn't specify what's happening....

Write out the specs of your machine.
Disk Type (scsi, ide, sata, san)
Memory (Non Ecc, Registered ECC, Generic, Other)
Controllers
Installation Basic + Advance
Network Cards (Brand, Speed)
Router

When you fill out the above come back and i'm sure answers would be flooding
in.
