Hi all. I have been gifted with the install of W2k SBS at
our new company. I know a fair amount about setting up a
LAN, but nothing about Exchange. SBS is installed, T1 is
setup and we have internet access, we can send/recieve
mail locally, can send mail to the outside but can't
recieve it. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
TIA!!!

Is your firewall blocking incoming e-mail? Can you telnet to your
SMTP server from outside?

According to the SBS security practices, during the
firewall setup the ports for sending/recieving SMTP mail
are left open by default. I haven't changed any of those
settings. When I send a test message from a hotmail
account to a user on the network, I immediately get an
email stating it was unable to deliver the email due to
user unknown.

Hi Steve,

You know that you only have 1 MX-record:

Your 1 MX record is:

10 mxmail.register.com. [TTL=86400] IP=209.228.4.161 [CNAME]

Does that IP-number sound familiar to you?

Hi Marina,
Nope, doesn't sound familiar at all. The company has
purchased 2 domain names. venturepkg.com and
venturepackaginginc.com. I looked at both and neither IP
is familiar. I really appreciate your help.

Hi Steve,

Have a look yourself at www.dnsreport.com for the other domain. Basically,
your ISP is responsible for creating MX-records which should be pointing to
your public IP.

Hi Marina,

I looked at both and neither one is right. I contacted
the ISP and they couldn't make the change. I am
contacting the web hosting provider to see if they can
make the change for us. Hopefully that will fix the
problem. I really appreciate your help. If you don't
mind, if this doesn't work I'd like to pick your brain
somemore. Thank you again.
