    - Server just froze Does anyone have an idea why a server would just freeze? Around 2pm today my cleint called me and told me the network is down. When I got there the server was frozen, ctrl-alt-del was not working. I hard booted it and everything was fine. The Anitvirus showed nothing unusualy as I block almost every attachment from email.     - XP client getting 403 forbidden message after a while Hi, Can anybody help please, I have some XP clients that have problems using IE. the users can access the internet for about 2 minutes (or about 5 www addresses) and than they receive the 403 Forbidden page from ISA they all have the proxy client installed.     - ICS We have SBS2003. We also have an ADSL dial-up broadband modem. I use the Internet & E-mail connection wizard and input all my dial-up ISP settings. I cannot then connect to the internet. However, if i create a manual connection (Network Connections -> New Connection) then I can connect fine. But how do I share this connection with the other computers in the office?     - Exchange 2000 equivalent for "Command Line Mail Sender"? How can I email a file (specifically an important .xls spreadsheet) to a select set of users each morning automtically? We are Exchange 2000 users. I've seen some tips/tools on an Exchange 5.0 tool names "Command Line Mail Sender" which (apparently) could do this without any user intervention and without Outlook having to be started.     - Help - 2nd server (Terminal Server) behind ISA and NAT I have configured a second server, which is to act as a Terminal Server, on my SBS2000 network. I am running ISA and NAT on the SBS2000 DC. I have a block of 4 public IPs from my ISP, but I am sort of confused on how to access the server from the outside if it has a private 10.10.10.x static IP address to access the SBS network. The only WAN side IP is the one on the WAN SBS2000 server. How would users be able to hit the Terminal Server? I am so confused. I have been researching everywhere and getting nowhere quick. Is there a way to publish another public IP address to the WAN side of the SBS2000 server, then route it through ISA to the Terminal Server, so the remote users can hit it?     - General account specific email boxes Subject says it all, I have a general login to my win2k clients. I am wondering if I can setup specific mail boxes from the clients with the general login or if I would have to creat the specific logins with the email boxes.. I am having problems with client scripting and am going the hard way on this.. My client scripts are not working properly, so whenever a new client is added I have to login to the client machine and set everything up manually.. I created a general account to bypass this issue. Before I used a general email account for emails, now I am having to use specific email accounts. Can anyone help me out on this? I dont want to have to get back into the client scripts..     - Exchange, Virtual Memory, too much RAM? Event ID 9582 Hello, We're running Small Business Server 2000, and (I think) Exchange service pack 3. In November I increased the RAM on the server from 512MB to 2.5GB. A week after I did this I realized that the paging file needed to be manually increased. I chose to move the paging file off of the C drive onto another partition. About six weeks later we started getting warning messages in the Application log: Event ID 9582, MSExchangeIS The virtual memory necessary to run your Exchange server is fragmented in such a way that performance may be affected. It is highly recommended that you restart all Exchange services to correct this issue. That seemed simple enough, so I rebooted and the messages went away. Now they're back. I'm getting Event ID 9582 warnings every hour, and two Event ID 9582 errors on Saturday and one today. I've been poking around MS website, and have just started monitoring MSExchangeIS VM Largest Block Size. I've also read something about antivirus programs competing with Exchange over memory, which results in memory fragmentation. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Do we have too much RAM?     - Port Scans I understand bored teenagers sitting in their rooms running port scans because they have nothing better to do, (well, I don't understand it so much as know it happens) but in the last 2 weeks I have had 3 port scans come from MSN. The first one appeared to come from MSN.com, but I never looked up the IP owner. (DNS said it belonged to MSN.com) Today I have another one, but the IP doesn't resolve to a name. If I pop the IP into a browser it takes me to an ESPN/MSN page. If I do a lookup on the owner of the IP address, it comes up as Disney. I've never had port scans from commercial sites logged before this year. Is anybody else noticing this behavior? Is this some form of an actual 'attacker' hiding behind common IP's? Thanks.     - Pop3 Connector (Where do teh emails go?) This is actually for SBS 2003, but hope some one can shed some light. I use the SBS pop3 connector to download emails from a catchall account at my ISP. Over the past 2 days the Pop3 Connector was downloading email but it was not appearing in the Exchange mailboxes. A restart of the server seems to have solved this. I.e emails are now ariving in the relevant mailboxes. However the emails downlaoded over the past 2 days are not in any of the mailboxes. Does any one know where these emails would have gone.     - 550 5.7.1.1 Relay Errors I have been using Aureate Group Mail on a couple computers to send out newsletters to members and it has been working great until about a month ago. I started getting "can't relay for ********@******.***" errors. We are running a SBS2000 server with Exchange 2000. The program is set to SMTP authentication required when sending. I entered the IP address of both computers into the SMTP virtual server to allow them to relay. That worked for a couple times and then it started happening again. This time I just shut the computers down and let them sit for about 10 minutes, started them back up and then they sent without errors. Now I am having the same problem again and nothing is working. I even installed a different Group mail program and that gets the same error. Is there a setting on the server that I can set to allow them to send? Thank you in advance.     - SBS2k and Dial-up connection I have SBS 2000 installed, and I would like to connect it to our ISP via a dial-up link (ADSL is coming soon). I have set up the modem connection, which dials and verifies the password, but when it gets to the Registering Computer on the Network stage bombs out with: "Error 720. the connection attempt failed because your computer and the remote computer could not agree on PPP control protocols."     - Exchange mail store + pop3 Can someone please answer a question for me. I'm wondering whether we can set up our SBS 2003 exchange server to act as the data store for all email .pst files, but still allow the individual workstations to go out to the pop3 server to send and retrieve email from our ISP More simply stated. I want to the benefits of remote access to Email (through Web Outlook), synchronization of remote devices to Exchange, and ease-of-administration that SBS2003 provides, but don't want the hassle of hosting our own email in-house.     - Access Database to SQL All, I have a client where we have a SBS 2000 server with a second w2k server in Terminal Service Application mode. It is on this second server where we have our MS Access database applications and data. Our in-house and remote user access these applications/data using Terminal Services. I was wondering, since our databases are starting to get larger, and the backup procedure is NTBackup to the SBS 2000 server, would it be an improvement if I started up SQL server on the SBS 2000 box and convert my Access data files to SQL databases? I'd still use the Access forms as a front-end to the SQL server database (maybe move to VB in the future). We have roughly 12 users at a time accessing the data from the same Access application. This is a very low transaction environment. Each user might add 5 - 10 transactions a day. Not much. So, would it be a improvement using SQL for the data or would I just be opening up a can of worms? How are other folks running large database applications? I'm interested in improving the stability of our Access data and hoping to also improve the backup procedures. Thank you, Thomas J.     - Unable to logon to domain, but can be added to domain I'm having a strange problem at one site. I can add computers to the domain during setup. But when trying to logon to the domain, the computers first displays the greyed out logon box end then nothing but the standard blue background. The problem first occured when I had changed some registry values (as described in this NG) to make XP browsing faster. I immediately changed those settings back to their normal value. When I'd changed those values back the computers that hadn't been started up for the day could logon, but the ones that had been started directly in the morning had to logon locally and access the resources on the server from there. All this happened a few months ago, but I didn't do much to solve the problem then. I planned to reinstall the "faulty" computers at a convinient occassion. But when I added two new computers the other day, I got same problem. They are added to the domain, but can't logon to the domain. Now I have eight computers that can't logon to the domain and four who can. All computers running WinXP Pro SP1 with the latest patches. Anyone having any ideas where to start looking?     - Migrating Exchange db from 5.5 to 2000 Hi, What is the best method for migrating an Exchange 5.5 db to an Exchange 2000 server? Scenario: This particular client has 10 users running on SBS4.5, (Exch 5.5). They have a newer server with a fresh install of SBS 2000. We'd like to move the entire 5.5 db over to the 2000 box and decommission the 5.5 box. When installing the 2000 server, there was an option to upgrade from 5.5 which we tried, however entering the requested 5.5 server name gave us "Error: Access Denied", and a corresponding event was created in the security log of the 5.5. server.     - Changing User I have an employee who has moved on to bigger and beter things. We have replaced her with another employee and she has since moved into the old employees computer. She has been logging on with the ex-employees User and Password. I would like to simply change the user name and password for that account to the new employee. It seems we tried this a few months ago and it did not work very well. When I Open an email with a .log file attached I want to open it with Wordpad. When I save the file to disk and try to open with. the Always open with box is grayed out.     - using msglabs with exchange Hi, a couple of questions relating to the config of Exchange on SBS 2000 when using Message Labs AV They ask that outbound email be directed to cluster1.eu.messagelabs.com - previoulsy we have been using the "use DNS" option, should the "use smart host" below the use dns option be configured with the new msglabs address?     - Exchange + POP3 Hi, Last week we had a problem in exchange. We use a sbs 2000 version and in exchange we use the POP3 extention. The problem was that the database didn't mount anymore. Done the standard procedures with eseutil etc.. but, while we were getting the database back on track the exchange kept connecting to the pop3 boxes and got the mail. The only problem is since the stores were not up where did the mail go ? The 3th day we stopped the pop3 service. Until today we didn't manage to let the database mount again, so we set up the outlook clients to get there mail them selves so we win some time. The only problem is that we need the mail that was downloaded by the pop3 connector during these 2 days and how can we restore it somewhere. Some advice in this situation is more than welcome.     - ISA server I am about to move one SBS 2000 server to new hardware and have planned the following putting Windows 2000 server and exchange 2000 on the new server and joining the current domain to move user accounts mailboxes over, FSMO roles etc, then upgrading the server to SBS 2000.     - RAS Remote Connection I am running a SBS 2000 Network at home which works extremely well. I have recently purchased a palm which I want to use with my mobile phone to pick up my mail from the SBS exchange server when I'm away from home. I have tried to find articles on how best to go about this but nothing on how to configure RAS on my server. I am proposing to use a dialup connection into the server but from there I'm not sure.     - Disk Mirroring I have just rebuilt my sbs 2000. I have 2 identical disks. One has 2 partitions, 0nce for the OS, the other for data. How do I create a mirror on the other disk. When I go to disk manager and turn the 2nd disk to dynamic it will not let me set it to a mirrored disk set to the other disk- the only option is to create a simple disk.     - Question for Web Proxy, ISA & Intranet Guru's I am using SBS2k and have a few issues which i am sure are all related in some way or other. There are a few ifs and buts here so bare with me. Background Information ----------------------- I installed IIS on installation of SBS2k. Also use ISA and Exchange2k IP address of our server is 192.168.16.2 All PC's clients are Win2k I am able to access the INTERNET from any local PC as any user who has Internet backoffice privelages. Problem Description -------------------- When i logon to any local PC as myself with Domain Admin rights i CAN'T access http://servername/myconsole or http://servername/exchange/%username% I am greeted with the Enter Network Passowrd dialog box. In Control Panel > Admin tools > internet Services Manager: Default website is showing as stopped Administration website is showing as running If i attempt to start the default website it throws an error messsage stating "Address already in use" However, if i stop the web proxy service then i am able to start the default website which in turn means that from a local PC if i try to run http://servername/exchange/% username% i can now gain access.     - how to disable fax service from printing all outgoing faxes all- This problem is drving me nuts and I want to see if someone out there have experinced the same issue. I have setup the Fax server under SBS 2003 and everything is working fine. My problem comes when all outgoing faxes are being printed after successfule transmission. Does anyone knwo how to disable this feature? I don't need to see a printout of a transmitted fax since I already archive all outgoing faxes. Your help is greatly appreciated.     - VPN problem I have enabled VPN access using the ISA Virtual Private Network Wizard. In addition, I created a DHCP Relay Agent for RRAS (don't know if that is necessary). I have two NICs in the server. The internal network NIC has an IP of 192.168.16.2. The external NIC has an IP of 192.168.2.1. When the remote client establishes a connection, the DHCP addresses are assinged from 192.168.2.1 instead of 192.168.16.2. I'm assuming this is why the client cannot access any resources on the SBS network. What needs to be done so that the remote client can see past the SBS server and access the internal network? Why aren't you using ntbackup to backup Exchange? This will remove the
transactionlogs automagically. How big is your C-drive? Have you moved the
Users and Company folders already?

this is a VERY VERY VERY bad idea! If you don't have clean IS then exmerge
will make matters worse. Always run eseutil before exmerge. Exmerge is NOT
for backup.
