 - Roaming Profile I have created a roaming profile for certain users on our SBS network who work at more than one PC. I saw a posting here before which said the easiest way to create a roaming profile was to right click the users name under Active Directory > Click properties > select the profile tab > copy what was in the home folder connect to box and paste it into the profile path. Therefore what is in the profile path is as follows: \\servername\users\theusersname Doing this certainly does create a roaming profile. However, when some users logon to the network they get the following message. //start of message Windows cannot locate the server copy of your roaming profile and is attempting to log you on with your local profile. Changes to the profile will not be copied to the server when you logoff. Possible causes of this error include network problems or insufficient security rights. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator. DETAIL - The network location cannot be reached.  - unable to view localhost pages I'm trying to enable IIS on a machine that is used as the central server on my network. When I look at the ADMIN tools, IIS is running and pointing to my wwwroot folder but when I enter "LOCALHOST" into the browser my default page isn't found. It's not actually my network but my client, not sure about how to run these things but there's more information on what's running at http://www.scotweld.com/scotweldserver.jp Can anyone tell me where the problem lies?  - SBS 2003 - Installation freezes on Disc 2 I am trying to install SBS 2003 on a Dell PowerEdge 1600SC. The server has the latest BIOS firmware, and I have all of the latest drivers from Dell for the RAID controller, etc. This is a new fresh install of SBS 2003. All goes well until I get to CD2 - specificly the MS Exchange part of the install. The server freezes shortly after running the 10 steps of updating the AD schema. The last thing shown in the progress is "Creating Active Directory Objects for Microsoft Exchange Server-Level Objects" - upon which the server competely freeses - no mouse, caps lock / num lock - all frozen. All I can do is power it off. The source CDs are ISO downloads from the MSDN site - I've downloaded the CDs twice, burned them several times - same results.  - OL2002 Strange problem We have a very strange problem on a XP Pro Workstation with Outlook 2002. (SBS2000 Svr / Exch Svr 2000)When I log onto this w.stat it takes approx 3-4 seconds to open emails for even move from one to the next on the listings the inbox or indeed the 'sent' box, deleting an email takes ages also. Otherwise it is operating quite normally in Calendar or notes or indeed anywhere else - This issue only started yesterday. The PC is a fast Dell PC, and if I open the same user mailbox on another (incidentally much slower machine and open the same emails from there it works perfectly!) Has anyone seen this before or have any idea what can cause this strange situation - I've tried 'detect and repair', and done update from Msoft website - all made no difference to the problem....  - Fax Modem for Fax Service I am in the near future going to have to install the fax service onto our sbs2000 server. My question is what modem is the best to use. This install will not actually be our main fax line just a sending fax line, no receiving. Boss does not want to get rid of the physical fax machine.  - New installation questions. Please help! Hello everyone: I'm getting ready to turn on our server with SBS 2000 installed OEM. I have a few questions before I start it up. Our current network is as follows : We have 4 clients all running XP and I dont want to lose any of their profile settings (files on the desktop, favorites, etc.) when switching to domain structure. Although I do want to move a good portion of the files to the server for backup purposes. We are using a POP3 email service right now and dont want to lose that, but would like to use the collaboration features that Exchange provides. What would be the best way to accomplish this?  - FTP Not Working I have never gotten FTP to work on my SBS. I probably made an incorrect selection early on, but I don't know how to fix it. I have both Win98 and W2K workstations. IE connectivity to the Internet works ok. I run Exchange Server without any problem. I have a DSL line to my ISP. Everything works great except FTP. So far on a non production Server I have run the SBS set-up disk and unselected both Exchange and IIS then rebooted. Then re run the set-up disk and re installed both products and so far all seems to be working. Previously we were having WinNt SBS as our Server and win98 systems as our clients . At that time every thing was fine . Now we upgraded our server to Win2000 SBS . We are having 3 servers with SBS2000 installed in which one acts as a logon server & File Server . We have one shared folder named EventTrac on that file server ( which is also our logon server ) . Suddenly some times we are not able to connect to the shared folder or not even access the file server . It is giving an error message " no permission to access resource " .  - Windows Update - Blank EULA I have noticed that when Windows Update is run on computers on our network when a user clicks "Install Now" sometimes instead of the EULA appearing a blank window of the same size appears. To install the updates you have to close the box (which then tells you that for every update you were installing it failed) and click install now again. It will then work happily. I think this is the reason that some of our machines are not automatically picking up updates. We have ISA Server on an SBS2K server. Anyone experienced this and know of a solution?  - Modem Sharing When I installed a new server last August with SBS2K, I installed it without modem sharing because we only use DSL for the Internet and a fax modem for faxing. We didn't have any apps that needed dial-up. Now we do. I have an insurance app that requires connecting to an AS400 to download policy info. How do I add modem sharing after the fact?  - Please explain compression on ntbackup with DDS3 tape drive I was surprised when my backup (using WinXPPro ntbackup to a Seagate Scorpion DDS 12/24 drive) using hardware compression (confirmed with seagate utility) balked at wanting another tape while trying to backup 17.8G of data (3g of MPS's, quite a few jpgs and other files) I thought it would easily fit on a 12/24 tape using hardware compresison. Is ntbackup **uncompressing** my mp3's onto tape?? Even with a 35% compression ratio I should still get 11.57 gig on tape... not getting it why it needs 2 tapes.  - More stange OWA + pos fix I'm trying to get OWA to work on a production SBS 2000 server with the latest Service pack and critical security patches. This server had the IIS lockdown tool installed about 13 months ago that I have now updated to the latest version. The problem is that on various Windows 2000 professional workstation and the server itself all with IE 6 the OWA client will log straight in as the logged in user without prompting for a login ID or password. If I enable the new IIS Lockdown tool the OWA clients hangs and just displays 'Loading'. I've tried about 10 different TechNut articles and all the setting appear correct including the IIS lockdown tools ini file. I've had similar problems on another 'non' production SBS 2000 server and eventually resolved the problem by uninstalling the Certificate server, IIS and Exchange then rebooting the server then reinstalling the whole lot. This worked fine and even let me run the IIS Lockdown tool without breaking. Does anyone know of a less drastic way of getting OWA to work in a SBS 2000 environment? Or is this as good as it gets?  - Help with unauthorised relay problem? I have a server that is collapsing under the weight of unauthorised email being relayed. I've followed the KB324958 guide, my server was not an open relay but I have removed all the external authenticated access relay settings, changed passwords etc but still the queues are filling up. At the moment I'm still on the bit where I've configured the SMTP connector to forward all mail to a smart connector so that I can flush the queues but they are constantly filling up!  - DNS disabling its self I am running a SBS w/ win 2000. It acts as my DC, DNS, Exchange server and has AD. Everytime I reboot this machine the dns does not start. Either I can turn dns to manual and of course I would need to start it manually. If I set the machine to automatic it will show up as disabled after the reboot. I currently only have one dns server running (my bad), but this really makes me stressed to get the dns back up after a reboot. Any suggestions as to why the dns keeps on disabling itself? This may be unrelated, but I'll give it a go. The group policy in the Active Directory displays an access denied message everytime I try to open it, and I cannot create any policies.  - POP3 Connector am running SBS2000 and using the POP3 connector for Exchange. Not all of my email accounts set up at the ISP go to the Exchange server in the end, some individuals never connect to the server and use Outlook Express only. However when someone connected to the Exchange server send an email to someone within the company that is not connected to the Exchange Server they receive an delivery failure notice from the Exchange server that that email account doesn't exist.  - What is the best way to move SBS2K to a new server? I am trying to replace the current server with a new one. What is the best way of doing this without reloading all the programs,SBS 2K and users accounts. I am thinking about doing a tape restore or using Norton Ghost.  - New Installation problem I have been given the job of creating a new installation of SBS 2000. New to this as all our previous server are Novell based. The server is new, and the installation has been done as default throughout. Everything works except web access from either the server or the client. We have a ADSL router plugged directly in the 2nd NIC (external) card. The ISA has been installed as default, and the settings for the 2 network cards are: Internal: IP Address 192.168.16.2 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Default gateway blank External: IP Address: 192.168.0.254 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway 192.168.16.2 The 192.168.0.254 is the IP address of the ADSL router. The configuration of the client network card is IP 192.168.16.10 Subnet 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway 192.168.16.2. I know there is a stupid mistake somewhere, but I am out of my depth. I can ping the internal netword card on the server, but it timesout on the external one. If I try to connect to the web on the client PC it gets a DNS lookup failure message.  - Internal network falls when VPN setup Hi, We have SBS2K two NICs 1 router. The system has been running since May 2003without to many problems. I have recently been trying to allow VPN access into the server for some users to get emails etc. I followed the guide on SBS2000.info and caused big problems, clients couldn't log on internally and WINS stopped running on the server. Email was coming in but not going out. I put everything back how it was (I think) and then tried again but caused the same problems again.  - Access contacts from public folders offline I have a public folder created to store all my Client Contact records. I connect to my server remotely with a dial up AOL account and then establish a VPN connection. Once connected, I then start Outlook to check my e-mail which I have setup as an IMAP mail account. I see the public folder where my client contacts reside and I have selected it for synchronization. However, I cannot figure out how to actually access these contacts via my address book. The Remote Access Connection Manager service depends on the Telephony service which failed to star
because of the following error: No attempts to start the service have been made since last boot

Does anyone have any suggestions

Hi scotchstapler

Server starting up forever could be down to DNS are your NIC bindings
correct, internal NIC at the top ? (do you have two NICs)

Is the Telephony service disabled? It should be enabled.
