Hello:

I have a brand new install of SBS2000. Everything appears
to be working fine.

The Application Log, however, is full of:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: MSExchangeMU
Event Category: General
Event ID: 1040
Date: 9/18/2003
Time: 7:59:45 PM
User: N/A
Computer: SERVER
Description:
Metabase Update failed replication 5 times with error
800cc801. Please change the diagnostic logging level of
MSExchangeMU to 'minimum' or greater to find the source of
the problem.

I have turned the logging level to "Max", but there is
nothing showing up in the log. Is there another log to
view?

Any assistance would be appreciated. No luck in
support.microsoft.com or google groups.

Thanks in advance.

Rob,

There appears to be a hotfix for this issue related to the file Ds2mb.dll.

I recommend you contact MS Support and request the hotfix Q324187.

Even if the fix is applied post Exchange SP2, and if it is slipstreamed
into Exchange SP3, there may be some need to modify the metabase.

Franz:

Thanks very much.. I will check it out at the client site
tommorrow.....

I have two theories....

Background. I have completed an upgrade to SBS 2000 from
4.0a on a new server.

Theory 1

I had some trouble with the fresh install of SBS 2000:

Shared fax failed (Forgot to install the GD modem after
the Windows 2000 install)

Exchange install failed with a complaint about AD (I
didn't record the message, damn....)

I installed the modem driver and reinstalled both Fax and
Exchange. Went fine.

Should I re-install again? (I really don't want to... I
have it up and running without problems)

Theory 2

I set up two users in the POP Connector prior to running
the Internet Connection Wizard in the To Do list. They
were using the local domain "xyz.local".

When I ran the internet wizard, I set the domain name
to "xyz.com" , which resolves to the client's ISP and
where they have POP accounts.

Upon testing, I found that no new external mail was being
received.

However, when I created and tested another new user's pop
account, this one worked. (and referenced the xxx.com
domain) I deleted the first two, re created them and they
too began to work, although there may have been a couple
of lost messages

Could this be at the root of the problem?

In any case, I will have a look and get back to this forum
tommorrow. If the above sheds new light on the problem,
any advice would be appreciated.
