Hi everyone:

I have an SBS2000. I can't start the dhcpserver service the event ID claims
there is another server belongin to the domain as 192.1.68.1. How can I
solve this problem. No one can log in to the server. Is urgent.

Thanks in advance

Denise

Event ID DHCPServer 1053 no one can log in, please help. by Ted

You could use a scanning tool to see what is running the
DHCP svc in your environment. Are you using any Linksys
or similar routers as switches or hubs? I would find the
offending device, and turn off the DHCP svc on it. After
that you should be able to start your DHCP svc on the SBS.

If it is a router or something as I suspect, I would
replace it with a regular switch.

Hi Ted:

I'm using a Cisco PIX router. The IP address that is causing the problem is
on the
outside (ISP) (SBC is causing the problem). First of all there should be no
conflict here, but there is. Second I cant seem to figure
out why or how the DHCP, running on the internal
interface, is Discovering a DHCP on the outside? I've already tried booting
the DSL, Router and the server. Still no luck. Can you suggest any toll to
see what is running the DHCP svc here? Wich one is the offending device in
my case and how can I turn off the service on it.

Thanks again for help out here.

Denise

Will this apply to me? I'm not using ISA and I have a single NIC on my
server.

Thanks!!

I 'assumed' you had 2 nics (by your earlier comment about the internal
interface). In any case from a security perspective you should have 2 nics
(internal & external)

Some routers can also act as DHCP servers... is DHCP switched off on your
router?

That makes no sense as you've posted an IP address on a private non-routable
range....(192.168.1.1) can you ping that IP address? Is this the LAN IP of
your PIX? Have you checked to ensure that it is *not* configured as a DHCP
server?

You have to find out what it is first. :-)

Note - there's no need for a dual NIC setup unless you're using ISA. I
prefer single NICs in domain controllers.
