 - Account lockouts occurring all the time and Exchange login problems SBS2000 on 1 server and Exchange 2000 running on a separate box (not ideal - I know but all Exchange services NOT running on SBS) I have remote users (VPN and/or Dialup - doesn't make any difference) and when they log into Exchange, they get the credentials request. They have NT Password authentication checked and sometimes, they are not even locked out! Threshold is currently set to 5 attempts. There is also another machine running Windows 2000 Server on the Network acting as a Domain Controller. Could this be causing the Authentication problems? Any help much appreciated.  - Mail from POP3 connector disappear I am receiving mail using POP3 connector on SBS2K. It used to work well when I connect with only the "Connect and Download" tab details configured (i.e. log in name and password to my ISP's POP3 server). Mails for different users will just get delivered to their respective mailboxes. For no good reason, this has stopped working and only way I get mail is to configure the individual mailing address under the "Mailing List" tab. I tried what KB suggested and deleted all the file in \Program Files\Microsoft BackOffice\Connectivity\POP3 Connector\directory Reconfigure the "Connect and Download" one more time.  - persistent vpn connection to remote h/w routers Hi I have to setup an sbs server to contect to 2 other sites. At present each site is connected with a dlink di-804v h/w vpn router (see link) http://www.dlink.com.au/products/routers/di804v/ that has IPSec VPN capability and are connected using a pre-shared key and 3DES encryption. The main site has now got an sbs2000 server and I am faced with the challenge of removing the h/w router and configuring sbs to fulfill the role that it use to.  - Terminal Services logon I have a Windows 2000, SBS2000 Server and have recently setup a Terminal Server running Application sharing on a Windows 2003 Server. Logging into the terminal server is fine when on the network, but what I would like to know is how do I log into the Application Server working remotely (from home for example). I am able to log into the SBS server using the remote IP address, but my TS Application Server doesnt have a remote IP.  - backpup client computer I want to completely backup a laptop about (25 Gb). Which is the best way? I was thinking about usung ntbackup on the win2000 client save it on a file on the server (in a folder not backed up daily) run once in a while a backup job on the server which saves that folder on the tape.  - Full Text Indexing Hi, Our outlooks seem to be slow when communicating to our exchange server. I've noticed there's an option called "full-text indexing" found under "servers" right click your server -> properties ->"full-text indexing". Mine is set to "low" could this be the cause? FYI: I've set the primary DNS on every workstation, to the IP address of my SBS server, including the g/w ip address. They're all outlook 2000's on windows 2000. Vert strange!  - temp migrate Hi all, i am making a new "temp" server to install sbs2000 AD and exchange 2000 on. I will then be removing my old hard drive from my SBS2000 server and installing a new drive and then installing sbs2003 I have made the "temp" server so i can Migrate my current sbs2000 settings to and then migrate them back to my sbs2003 install.  - Profiles on Windows 2000 Pro Hi, I'm migrating user data from a SBS4.5 server over to a SBS2000 server. Each user currently has a roaming profile using Win2000 Pro desktop. How can I transfer these setting over to the new SBS2000 domain for the users? Are there any significant changes for roaming profiles between SBS4.5 and 2000?  - Win2K Pro Client Simple LAN with 3 workstations all Win2k Pro running from an SBS 2K 2 clients upgrade their Virus Scnner every day with no probs www.vet.com.au 1 produces errors, unable to locate the profile directory etc. I have now just upgraded the accounting package on this workstation, installed as administrator to do so and ensured the icons were listed in "all users" when I log in as the user required the icons do not appear in her start menu. I have logged in as admin, deleted her profile director and then logged the user in again to recreated the profile dir but still the same problem exists ? Any ideas ?  - Outlook XP wont start Hi Can any help with this? 2 new SBS2000 installs, both with XP clients and Office XP Pro OWA works fine any PC. Outlook works if run as local admin and manual paths to the Exchange server. But when opening OL for the first time as a new user the EULA appears and is acceted, the User name and initials are accepted, there is a pause and OL disapears. Further attempts to start OL simply show the program, complete with any email in the inbox but then disapears after a pause. You see, the thing is that my laptop was in the university's network where this antivirus Trend Officescan was also installed. Now I am not in the uni's network anymore and therefore unable to locate the Autopcc.exe file. Is there another way to uninstall this program? Any advices would be welcomed.  - Problem Exchange 2000 SMTP bandwidth Hello! I have a little problem with an Exchange 2000 Server. The Server is connected via a 748/128 DSL-Line to the=20 internet. Some users usually send mail to up to 5000=20 recipients. Now when they do that, the Internet can not be=20 used anymore, because Exchange takes the whole Upstream=20 bandwidth for sending the mails.. Can I somehow limit the bandwidth for exchanges=B4 SMTP?  - VPN Hi, I have a sbs 2000 server that I can VPN into from home. The connection is made , but when I go to the command prompt to put in my server name and share name and hit enter, nothing comes back except "unable to find path". It has been working fine up until now. I restarted RRAS but it made no diff. It seems that looking at the sending and recieving bytes counter on the VPN display bar that the sever is not sending anything back.( obviously because the path is not found). Does his pst file have to reside (i.e be imported into) in his exchange mailbox or could I put the pst file on my file server which has tons of room , and still have exchange work for him Any help appreciated.  - Exchange Hi, I have 1 sbs 2000 server running exchange. I also have a win2k server acting as a replication server. This hopefully means that if my sbs2000 dies, people can still logon via the replication server. My question is , Should my main SBS 2000 go down, people won't get email. Is there a way either using another win 2k server, or using my ISP to provide fault tolerance so users can still get email. I can't afford to buy a fresh copy of Exchange!  - Configuring Exchange 2003 with SBS 2003 for POP/SMTP I am having troubles getting Exchange 2003 to receive (via POP3) and send (via SMTP) my email. Here's the basic config: * I have SBS installed with my domain as myFullCompanyName.local * I can run OLWC (Outlook 2003 Web Client) to view/manage email. * I have defined myself as a user in the domain (COMPANY). * The userid has multiple email addresses defined in Active Directory (Active Directory Users and Computers/myFullCompanyName.local/MyBusiness/Users/SBSUsers/userid) user@somedomain.com, user@some.other.domain.net and user@anotherdomain.com. I don't yet have my own domain so what I am trying to do at the moment is connect exchange to my personal email accout hosted by my ISP (user@somedomain.com), collect my email from the POP3 server (located at some.other.domain.net -which requires authentication) and also send any outbound email via the SMTP server (some.other.domain.net - which requires me to be authenticated on the POP server first). I successfully ran the "Internet Mail Wizard..." to configure default POP3 & SMTP connectors. Now the problems start: The POP3 connector successfully collects email, but doesn't seem to deliver it to the specified mailbox on my server. I know the email gets picked up, but I've not idea where it's going locally. I did specify in the POP3 collector's config that the mail is destined for a user's mailbox (and there's only one user). Next, I have a couple of email addresses that I send from (and my ISP's SMTP server allows me to do this since I authenticate via POP first). BUT, if I try to send myself mail (to user@somedomain.com - my personal email), Exchange just delivers it straight back to me without it "leaving" the server. It also reports it as being from user@myFullCompanyName.local instead of one of my email addresses. It does seem to deliver email to remote (unknown addresses), but again they have the reply to address set to user@myFullCompanyName.local.  - Shared Fax displaying squares instead of characters I have a client that is using SBS with Shared Fax. Everything is working great except when they try to send faxes in Chinese. Instead of displaying the characters it displays squares. The chinese language set is installed on both the server and the workstation. When you look in the console Chinese characters display correctly in the recipient name, subject and document name fields but not in the actual fax which you can see by double clicking on it and bringing up imaging preview.  - Connecting a SBS server LAN to the Internet - NAT or IP Block ? My company (50 PC users) has a adsl internet hookup with a NAT router and we recently got an SBS2k server and we are happily using it behind NAT. Now we want to start buying laptops and implement some form of mobility for some of our people. We've started by using go2mypc which works fine, but will be expensive for the long run. We use outlook, office and access some propriatery applications that we can't expose directly to the internet without lots of thought. We probably need some sort of VPN solution and I have a bunch of questions; The first one is, do we need to get an ISP to supply us with an IP block large enough for the entire company of is there a router/firewall product that can use NAT but still allows incomming VPN connections. I know that basic NAT is VPN show-stopper. Several of us have NAT routers at home and NAT-NAT connections are even harder to do VPN over. Users are non-technical and I don't see VPN tunnels as part of the company-wide solution, partly because these are not company-issued and probably no two are alike. I'm willing to buy the hardware necessary to make this work. We have no plan to run public web servers from this location. I can imagine, with the right equipment, getting a second IP (static) adddress from our ISP and using it for incomming connections, but, if this is really possible I need recommendations for specific equipment to be able to visualize it.  - SBS FUBAR--I need a Pro Hello all, It's lovely some the screw ups you find on inherited machines. I get this popup saying that I'm approaching my license limit. So I go looking for the sbs managment console and....it's not there! SQL, Exchange, ISA, and Windows Server 2000 are with the typical componets installed. However, the disk set has been copied on to the server. So I navigate the the console folder and load the ITPROSBSCONSOLE.msc from the folder and find that The Backoffice Home doesn't load and Customize and Query options are greyed out on the Backoffice Manager. So I find a knowledge base article 294148 article telling me to copy files from the disk to the \Program Files\Microsoft Backoffice\Management folder and run a command line to register the dll. However no \Program Files\Microsoft Backoffice\Management exists on the server. So I find another article on reinstalling the SBS Management Console, 292731. So I run the set up wizard only to receive This version cannot upgrade the installed version of Microsoft Small Business Server. So I find another article 306934 and I edit the registry which allows me to run the setup wizard so I can reinstall the SBS managment console so I can find the number of licenses installed on the server. Could it end there? Oh no! After selecting the internal network adaptor (Intel Pro/1000 XT Network Connection, pre-installed on the Dell PowerEdge 2500). I get a window that states setup needs to install some missing componets Windows 2000 Configuration Networking Configuration Network Identification So I click next and away goes the Setup wizard and nothing appears to be happening...After a suitable length of time I try the wizard again only to receive a message say it's already running. Wooohoo! Now keep in mind I've installed the latest drivers for the network cards. And that all the componet parts Exchange, SQL, ISA all function. With some very minor glitches. Short of uninstalling and reinstalling the cards I'm at a loss. Someone with some expertise please reply with a suitable solution (without uninstalling and reinstalling the OS) to allow me to install the missing SBS componets and in so discover the number of license installed on the machine.  - Exchange and e-mail filter We have been getting inundated with spam; specifically, vicodin, viagra, and hydrocodone e-mails. The other set of e-mails we are getting are those dang ms internet security alert, patches, etc. I have added several hundred e-mail addresses for Exchange to block when pulling in our e-mail, but, it appears that Exchange is not blocking this from being pulled in. I still receive them in my inbox in Outlook XP. Once I have added these to be blocked using the filter in Exchange, is there anything else that I have to do to prevent these from still being pulled in and delivered to our inboxes? TIA for all help! This is driving me absolutely nuts! I must spend a good hour everyday if not a little more deleting all the junk mail that I just started to get during the past month.  - New SBS 2000 upgrade from SBS 4.5 Hi everyone, I have a SBS 4.5 on site and want to upgrade SBS2000 now. I tried to follow the white paper from microsoft that how to upgrade a brand new server to SBS 2000. I have a old server runs SBS 4.5 and I have a new dell server install SBS 2000 with workgroup now. My frist question is when I join the new server to the domain now, and since the MS white paper said it should join my new server with workgroup, so I can transfer all of the data from my old server to the new one such as the pri.edb and pub .edb by exmerge. However, if I runs the Exchange 2000 with my SBS 2000 which already have Active dirctory install, then how can my new server join the domain with workgroup then?? Second, since my new server runs AD now, but somehow I want to change my server name to other, can I run dcpromo.exe from SBS 2000 like Windows 2000 server does?? Thank you for all advice.  - too many open tcp ports According to a certified partner vendor, I have an unusally high number of open tcp ports. When running the netstat -a command the list is quite long compared to my other servers. We have had some virus and security issues recently. My vendor needs port number 1500 to listen in their program, but can not get it to open. They believe the large number of open ports is the cause.  - problem sending faxes hi all; we have an sbs2000 with exchange and we decided to install and use the fax server too. our problem is that our clients cannot send faxes although they print directly to the shared fax. the fax-modem dials but we always receive a transmission error from the fax device we are calling.  - Backup Exchange Server Hi all I would like to offer my clients a backup exchange service so if their site goes down I can switch their MX dns record over to my server. My clients are all using SBS2000 and I am as well. Is there an easy way for me to set this up? I can envision setting their accounts on my server for mail delivery, but dont know how I can get it all back onto their server when things on their end go back up.  - Clients having problems with POP3 email. I'm running SBS 2000 and all of my clients have email send/recieve errors. We tried switching providors but that doesn't seem to do the trick. When they are recieveing mail its almost as if the server times out if there are a lot of messages in the box or large messages. Does anyone know of anything that I can check to resolve this issue? I've been having DNS errors show in the ICW log that I believe is preventing ICW to configure the Internet Connections (Comes up with error "Unable to Configure Internet Connection Settings"). When I look at the log, it refers to DNS forwarders. So I was following the article http://www.smallbizserver.net/SBS2000/How_to_configure_DNS_to_host_a_site_on _the_server.aspx and the second screen only has 3 options: Active Directory Integrated Standard Primary (defaulted) Standard Secondary.  - SBS 2003 intranet I freshly intalled SBS 2003 RC and the intranet failed to install. Errorlog.txt shows something about unable to get regkey, and setup.log shows "an error ocurred while setting up sharepoint team services and creating your intranet site". More info: The IIS shows the companyweb, but the inetpub/companyweb folder is empty. There's only one NIC with a static internal IP, the 3 workstations in the LAN are static IP, the DHCP client and server are disabled. The domain is a <mycompany>.com (this was my choice), there is a hardware router/firewall, and the same machine hosts other websites but relying on external nameservers. SQL Server 2000 was installed later as a separate instance. I tried to delete some registry keys as suggested in a posting, remove sharepoint, remove MSDE for sharepoint, then re-install, but I got the same result.  - OWA and permissions I have had OWA working succesfully for several months. I have recently added my account to exchange and want to use OWA to access my mail. I enter user name and password (which I know is correct) and it comes straight back up again, as if it is incorrect. Other users are fine. I am a member of Administrators group.  - No access after adding router I added a router to my SBS setup yesterday following the instructions found on smallbizserver.net. Everything worked fine as far as sending e-mail and accessing the internet. But now I cannot receive any e-mails and the VPN's and Terminal services I was using to access other servers in remote locations does not work. I tried changing the settings on the router to no avail ( such as turning of the firewall in the router and seting a DMV). I assume this has to do with port forwarding? Thanks! this is on a server that is a client to SBS 2000 - not a
DC just a workstation running Windows 2000 Server.

Could be DNS, could be NetBEUI (which should be removed), could be the
restrictanonymous setting (don't set it to 2), could be unused nics that
