Just curious ... with HIPAA and Gramm-Leach-Bliley acts ... how does one
send secure mail via SBS/Echange/Outlook? Are there add-ins to Outlook or
Exchange, or is built in and I've not found it?

You either need to do it in-house or signup for company that will encrypt
for you. I have MANY doctors as clients and all of them simply do not send
emails about pts to each other, they simply phone. It's not so much a cost
issue but a PITA issue. Women who work in med offices are not the brightest
and to explain the whole encryption key thing since they often send to
others that may not know how to decrypt. Too much aggravation for any of my
clients to start using.

Hi Kevin,

While I never used it for real (I just played a little bit with it some time
ago)... you can encrypt and digitally sign stuff directly in Outlook. The
problem is that you need a PGP key (which a "real" one cost $$$) and somehow
the recepient must first have the "trusted" public key to decode/verify the
message.

Same thing applies when we get to verify the MS security bulletin messages
are from MS.

Here are two KB articles on the subject:

Outlook 2002-

Outlook Express

I have several customers that use Omtool Genidocs to do what you are asking.
I am not using SBS with the product but I don't see why it would not work.
If the recipient dosn't have a public key they would recieve an encrypted
PDF or ZIP file with the documents. They would then connect back to the
senders Genidocs extranet site via https and be given a decryption key once
they prove who they are.
