Group
I am running in to the following issue.
I have SBS2003 (Is there another group for 2003 I should be posting
to?). I have a DSL router (Actiontec) that gets a static public IP from
my ISP 71.35.xx.xx, then the router provides an IP for my SBS server at
192.168.0.2 - first NIC, then the SBS2003 server provides ip's to my
internal network of 192.168.16.xx over the second nic

I have configured inside the Actiontec router to have my server IP
192.168.0.2 in the DMZ zone. I also pointed the MX record at my ISP's
to the router ip of 71.35.xx.xx

I can now send email to the outside world, but can not receive any.

What am I missing in this configuration?

Thank you
Alex

Actually, the best place to ask 2003 questions is:
microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs

... but don't worry, we will take care of you here too :-)

Did you run CEICW, put your actual domain name and everything? From a
computer outside your SBS lan, open a command prompt and type "telnet
71.35.xx.xx 25" you should see a response from Exchange... if not then the
problem might be your ISP (or something else) blocking port 25.

Javier
Thank you for the responce.
When I try to telnet into port 25 from the outside world, I do not get
a responce.
My ISP is insisting that they do not do any blocking.

That leads me to believe that there is something wrong with my
Modem/Router configuration.

What should I look for?
Thanks
Alex

Connect a PC in between your modem/router that has an IP on the 192.168.0.x
range. Then try to "telnet 192.168.0.2 25" from there... if you get a
response we can rule out the SBS box and concentrate on the router.

If the router is the problem then try forward port 25 instead of just
putting the SBS on the DMZ.

Yes
I can telnet internaly to Port 25
So I need to foward the IP & Port 25 inside the router?

Do I also need to set any NAT tables or ... ?

Thanks
Alex

Assumming that this is not your ISP blocking port 25 (what ISP is this
anyway?)...

Basically you need to forward port 25 to the SBS box. A small group of
routers/firewalls require to do this in two steps: a) create a packet filter
for port 25 and b) forward that port to the SBS external IP. Since this
really depends on the specifics of your DSL modem I suggest you post what's
the exact model to see if somebody with the same device can help you out.

Can you access any other resource remotely (owa/sharepoint/rww)?

BTW-> You might also want to checkout broadbandreports.com forums for help
with your specific ISP/device.

ISP is qwest
modem is Actiontec DSL Modem with wireless gateway Model GT701-WG

I can use Term Services to log into the server remotely, and also OWA.

Thanks
Alex

Weird that you can access RDP, but not SMTP in the DMZ. In any event, I
found this:
http://www.qwest.com/dslhelp/modems/gt701/pdf/GT701_addtlcfg_CfgPortFwd_20050315.pdf

In the IP port range put 25 to 25, select TCP and put 192.168.0.2 (the IP of
your SBS external nic). Make sure there are no other forwards for port 25.
