 - CD Key Not Accepted I am following the recommendation of MSDN Article 266668 which says: Perform an in-place upgrade: a. Run Winnt32.exe from the \I386 directory on the Windows 2000 installation CD-ROM. b. When the Windows 2000 Setup screen appears, click Upgrade to Windows 2000. c. Allow installation to complete. The problem is that the install dialog will not accept the CD key that is on the back of the CD folder for the SBS 2000 CD.  - SBS2000 server BSOD when local machine uses Citrix Client Hello All: I've got a bear of an issue that I've been wrestling with the past few weeks... Short Version: -SBS2000 server, fully patched and packed on a Dell Poweredge 4400 -dual nic configuration -DSL router controlled by ISP -ISA is installed and running -necessary ports (required by citrix) are open -client using XP Pro SP2 -NEW: client using Citrix Client ( v7.00.17534) to connect to outside server & applications -80% of the time the client connects to the remote server via Citrix, the local server BSOD's with the following message on screen: "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" -Event log shows only one single related message: >> Event Type:Information Event Source:Save Dump Event Category:None Event ID:1001 Date:4/26/2005 Time:2:36:55 PM User:N/A Computer:LOCAL SERVER Description: The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000d1 (0x00000013, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x00000013). Microsoft Windows 2000 [v15.2195]. A dump was saved in: C:\WINNT\MEMORY.DMP. >> -no other symptoms are present. -local system not affected - no logged errors or other issues, with the exception of the issues common to any system that is connected to a downed server -the crash ALWAYS occurs at some very random point AFTER logon to remote server is successful -server comes back-up without any unusual problems. Last night at the end of the day I installed the "uniprint" print drivers on the local workstation and spent two hours trying to make the server crash. The server didn't crash once in twelve clean trys!! When the user came in to give it a try this morning - crashed, almost immediately. My testing had been pretty thorough - logged on as user, all of the usual app's running - no problems. The one app that wasn't involved was the accounting software "Platinum Accounting". It uses it's own little database on the server that does take quite a few resources. But we previously tested with and without that software running and the server would crash under both conditions. Extensive research has shown that network card drivers (particularly DLINK which I'm not using) and printer drivers have been known to down servers connecting via Citrix. But it is a little odd because Citrix is NOT running on the server. My questions: 1) is there a way to pinpoint the offending driver and/or get more detailed "english" error messages? 2) what would make the difference between my test and the users? (This one has me stumped, I can only think that perhaps it is NIC related and the traffic from other users brings on the conflict - I was working late so there weren't any other users taxing the network) 3) what are the safe steps for changing both NIC's ? (this is probably posted elsewhere, I'll research this some more on my own). 4) what else am I overlooking? 5) has anyone else seen or heard of something similar?  - Shared fax not notifying of sent or rejected faxes I use Microsoft Shared Fax. In Outlook we enter [fax:nnnn] into the TO field and the fax sends via a shared modem on my server. Until a few days ago we were getting notifications telling us whether the fax was successful or not. I looked up an article on "how to set up Microsoft Shared fax service" and there is a section on "notifications". I reviewed everything in that section but everything was already set up as was suggested. As I said, it was working fine up until last week. I am the administrator and no one else can make changes.  - terminal server has exceeded the maximum number of allowed connections Hi I tried to login to my server and have this problem: terminal server has exceeded the maximum number of allowed connections Now, what happen is I know I am limited to 2 connections. However, if I disconnect a remote desktop connection (RDC), I can always login again with no problem. The new RDC will simply log me in to my last session. It activates passive session, or things like that. If I do not disconnect the RDC and just leave it there, there will be a minimized RDC window in my client. I can just click on it, and login again. It activates the passive session. One day, there is no minimized RDC windows, and when I start a new one, I got the error message: terminal server has exceeded the maximum number of allowed connections How can that happen? Is there a way to increase the number of maximum connection allowed to more than 2? Also is there a way to automatically disconnect after a few hours?  - Checking Emails with HP IPAQ h6300 What is the best way to access my inbox from my HP Ipaq h6300? I need some directions on how to setup the IMAP4 connection which I think is the best way to do this. I go to the inbox accounts on the pda and put in my email, then username, and password. Then I tell it IMAP4 for the account type. Next I am asked for incoming mail and outgoing mail. Here I am not sure about what to put. My SBS is running on a DSL connection with a static IP address. Is that what I put for the incoming and outgoing. Same thing for the Domain. Is it domainname.com or just the DOMAIN name that I see when I login at work.  - Exchange Server / ISA / Firewalls Hi All, I've got a couple of questions regarding sbs2000. Firstly, can ISA be disabled without affecting exchange server functionality? (i.e will exchange still work?) Can the ISA Firewall be disabled but still use the ISA proxy? If I put a cisco firewall infront of the sbs2000 server (with ISA Firewall enabled) would this cause any problems? Finally, the main question that is confusing me slightly, what is the common method of securing exchange server with a hardware firewall? I assume most companies don't place their exchange server on the internet with an external ip address, so what do most people do to transfer emails coming-in to the exchange server from the external ip address (router).  - Can't add SMTP Virtual Server to IIS SMTP service is running however when I click on the IIS root and try to add a SMTP virtual server like I've done on many other installation the SMTP is not an option on the "New" menu.  - No OWA from outside after IP change Everything had been working just fine for over a year, but the cable co ^&%#'ed up and changed our "fixed" IP address. (They don't actually call the fixed anymore, they're "sticky" IP's now which means thay don't change a soften as dynamic, but yesterday our sticky IP came unstuck.) I called the ISP that hosts our web site and whose mail servers we send through and got the MX records and stuff fixed, and late last night the mail (or at least the spam) started flowing again. But now OWA won't work from outside the LAN anymore. I can't find anything wrong, and as far as I know nothing has changed except the IP. Is there someplace I overlooked where OWA or the virtual server or something has a setting for the IP address of the external NIC? Or do I just need to rerun the ICW?  - Need to send SMTP mail through two smarthosts Hi, This is our situation: Currently our domain name is, for example, 123A.com. We send SMTP mail through the default Exchange 2000 SmallBusiness SMTP Connector using a designated smarthost. We will be adding another (2nd) domain name to our business, for example, 123B.com. Thus we will need to send SMTP mail through another smarthost that was given to us. Question(s): 1) Do I need to create a new SMTP connector for domain 123B.com? 2) Do I need to create an additional SMTP Virtual Server for domain 123B.com? Also for retrieving POP3 email, let's say employee 'Paul' will now have paul@123A.com and paul@123B.com coming into the Outlook 2003 Inbox (I believe?)  - Exchange Server Management service will not start Dell server 1500SC Running Windows 2000 Small Business Server. We were running out of disk space of the c partition so I unloaded as many unused applications as possible. Including GFI spam filter, MS outlook, etc.. (may have been a few other can not remember.) Ah...you do know that you really shouldn't install Outlook on a server running Exchange, no? I do now. After restatring the system the Exchange Server Management service refused to start. The event log show an Event ID 6 (The Microsoft Exchange Management service encountered an error (0xThe specified module could not be found.) I best guess is that I need to reinstall the application MSExchangeMGMT, but not sure how to do this. Not a big deal at this point, because the Exchange server is still up and running, but thought I should get some advise before throwing myself under the bus.  - 5.7.1 Relay Denied - Inbound to SBS 2003 Server I have an SBS 2003 Server, it is configured to accept mail for two domains. The default domain (domain1.com) accepts inbound email, the second (domain2.com) returns the error 5.71. Relay denied. I can telnet into both domains and the mail server answers.  - Reconfigured Internet access, now POP3 won't work. I'm baffled but pretty sure what I did caused the problem. I had SBS2000 configured with ISA using two network adapters. Everything was working fine. I reconfigured the Internet to just go through a firewall/router on the network. I disabled ISA, disconnected the second network adapter, and configured the server to use the Internet through the single network adapter connected to a router, etc. I then reconfigured the clients and everything seemed to be running fine. Outlook users get their e-mails, all can access the internet, VPN works fine, etc. I just noticed a problem with a user who was using a phone/pda device which was pulling their e-mails from the server through POP3 service. Ever since I made this switch, I cannot connect to the server using POP3 in Outlook Express, etc. I get the following error: The server xxxxxxx unexpectedly disconnected. error code 0x800CCC90 No error messsage. When I try to telnet to the server through port 110, it is immediately disconnected. I can telnet through port 143 and 25. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post.  - SBS2K Server, how to change local policy, auditing on. Make Effective Setting. Hello, I ran Microsoft's MBSA 1.2.1 and noticed that auditing was not on on one server. I turned auditing on for the domain on the server, I verified the xp workstations were correct, auditing is on in GP. But how I do it turn on auditing for the local server itself? I changed the domain policy through Active Directory Users and Computers. For the local server itself, I thought it was done through Domain Controller Security Policy. But the server itself states, in the Domain Controller Security Policy, that the only Local Setting set (success, failure) and Effective Setting set is "Audit Account Management." The rest state the correct setting in Local Setting but "No Auditing." in Effective Setting. And I Change the Effective Setting. Was I supposed to instead of editing the default domain policy in Active Directory Users and Computers, add a new one? I tried that, to no avail. I am missing an obvious setup in this equation.  - Missing installation Media I'm running SBS 2000 in a 25 user office. I was reviewing our disaster recory plan and noticed that we do not have the orignial SBS 2000 installation CD Media. My company got the server thru a reseller who is out of business and the person I took over from has no clue about the CD's. We do have the invoices and the CAL floppies.  - User Account Logon Hours I am trying to "Limit" the hours some of my users are logged on, actually I want to be able to Log them Off at the End of the Day. I am using SBS 2003...I see on the users Profile where I can set the time they are allowed to Logon....but the problem is, How Do I make Sure they Log OFF at the Specified Time? If they Logout, they are unable to Log back in until tomorrow, but providing they do not Log Off, they can remain connected to the Network.  - SBS 2003/.net framework I am about to upgrade to SBS 2003 from SBS 2000. I gather that 2003 comes with .net framework version 1.1. We currently use a .Net application that is only tested to work on .net framework ver 1.0 When I upgrade will the current 1.0 framework be upgraded to version 1.1, or will it install a new version of 1.1 and leave the exisitng framework alone? I understand that both versions of the framework can be installed on the same machine. If it does upgrade the current version will I be ok installing 1.0 again on SBS 2003?  - printer/spooler/server2000/Netpot suite Hi all, I really need an advice. I am running a Windows 2000 server and there is printer I want to delete because it has the same IP address with another printer and I dont know how that happend. I tried to delete the printer but there is a print job in the queue which also will not delete or cancel. so I went to spooler and the file is there. I was advised to stop the spooler service and delete the file in the system32/spool/printers . when i tent to stop the spooler service , it prompt me that the spooler is has 2 programs depend on it called CANON NETSPOT SUITE SERVICE and it would stop too. I clicked ok. but now the spooler wont stop but the CANON service is saying it is 'stopping' but it is not doing anything. I dont know how this affects the other printers.  - Upgrade path(s) from SBS2000 Hello, I'm am trying to find out the most sensible upgrade path from my current SBS2000 network. I currently have a Dell Poweredge server with 2Gb RAM, approx 210Gb of RAID 5 storage and 50 CALs. Currently I am using approx 140Gb of disk space, I have 55 users that would like(!) to login, we use exchange (approx 8Gb store size), OWA, SQL server, IIS, ISA, Trend CSM, Vertias BackupExec, MailEssentials (for SPAM) and obviously file & print services. I need in the short term to (a) get the 5 extra users on the system (b) add another 5 users. In the medium term I expect to have to add another 10-15 users. I see two possibilities:- 1. Move to SBS2003 2. Move to seperate servers. Firstly, if I want to move to SBS 2003, what upgrade/licences do I need to buy? I have seen mentioned Transistion, upgrade and full copies of the (premium) product plus transistional, upgrade and additional extra CAL's Alternatively, if I move to seperate servers how many (or more appropriately how few!) do I need and what are the most sensible licencing options for Exchange, SQL server and IIS?  - cached mode fix I had some problems with cached mode in outlook 2003 also on the server sbs2000 i enabled the deletion settings to 45 days. It so happened that the user had some messages that were 40/120mb in size emails. I used the filter on the deleted items folder and set it to anything less than 5mb in size.  - SMTP connector I have a SBS exchange server with a smtp connector. The connector freezes on a particular domain sometimes and says "scheduled" in the state field. The other domains say retry or active. I have to click force connection to get the mail to go out. This just started and nothing has changed on the server.  - Fax Server issues.... I know this isn't the correct area to post this issue but hopefully someone has had this issue before... We have installed a BrookTrout TRUFax 2 port board into our WIndwos 2003 "standard" server and installed the "Fax" services so we can send receive faxes... The software installs fine but it will not "see" the fax board. It simply says "All fax printers are inaccessible" in teh status area (bottom right) of the "Fax Monitor". If you attempt to go into "Tools->Fax Service Manager" a message is displayed saying... "Could not open a connection to the fax service. The faxx service might not be started or the computer name might be incorrect". The fax service is strted and runing under the Local system\nt authority account" It will then take you to the "Fax Service Manager Window" but you cannot do anything. If you right click "Fax" in teh left pane and click "Properties' I get an "Access Denied" error... Also, if I right click the "Fax" printer added to "Printers and Faxes" and right click to access the Properties, I get a "You do not have security permissions to complete this operation. Contact the fax administrator for more information." error message. I even found a document that suggested adding the "Local System", Network Services" and "Administrators" groups to the local security policy - Windows Settings/Security Settings/Local Policies/User Rights Assignment - "Generate Security Audits" policy but that did not solve the problem... This Win2K3 server is a backup domain controller and I am logged on with my domain account. Has anyone ahd this type of a problem??? Thanks, Brad PS...  - Network with SBS via VLAN's What am attempting to accomplish is to have 2 Vlans. One VLAN would have the SBS server on it and would support my computer network and IP Phones on that priviate network. Then I want to create a 2nd Vlan that would just support IP Phones and would not require and of the services of the SBS. Basically what I am trying to accomplish is to have a 2 node IP Telelephone system. Adtran make a device that that a router, a managed switch, and Power over Ethernet all in one. I plan on using this Adtran device to set up the 2 VLANs' and also connect my broadband connection to it. I plan on mapping the two VLAN's together so the IP Phones can communicate. I would set up the SBS Server with only one network adapter and the Adtran router would become the default gateway. I will also be installing a Harware firewall. Do this sound like it would work.  - Another Question on Exchange Disk Space Again, thanks to you all for your input on my question about disk space for Exchange. I did an Exchange-aware backup last night and freed up about a half-gig of space on the M: drive. That still leaves me with only 1.9GB of free space on my M: drive. But as I understand it from your responses, if the M: drive is a virtual drive pointer to the Exchange database stored on my C: drive then the amount of free space on the M: drive is irrelevant since that's not where the data is stored If what I said above is correct, then I'm still low on disk space for Exchange because I have less than 2GB of free space on my C: drive. But I have almost 40GB of free space on drive F: which is where I store users' home folders and company folders.  - Why can't my SBS 2000 server connect to 2003 Server? Have 2003 servers on our network and a SBS 2000 server on our remote network. PIX VPN firewalls in between.
