I have about 20 win98 clients connected to my SBS 2000 (I
know win 98 doesn't play well...) We are accessing POP3
accounts from an outside ISP. Outlook will sometimes
connect and other times, it will say the connection has
been terminated. Usually when it gets terminated the ISA
system tray icon has a red "!" in it.

Does anyone know why this is happening? Am I missing a
protocol somewhere? It just happens at seemingly random
times, and it happens on some machines and not others.
Everyone still has internet access though...?

Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg -

By any chance is the firewall client on those machines set to Automatically
Detect ISA Server? If so, remove that option and specify your ISA (SBS)
either by IP or name . . .

I have tried it in all configurations... Auto, IP,
servername... Nothing seems to hold water. Also, I have
a LMHOSTS file that puts the SBS as the dom-controller, so
it should be mapped to the IP by name there as well...

I have also checked the connection in 'internet options'
and it's "SBS01" port 8080 and bypass is checked.

I have machines in just about every configuration
(software wise)... I have uninstalled every program that
tries to connect to the internet (i.e. Instant messenger,
Realplayer, weatherbug, etc.)

Any other ideas of what it might be???

Regards,
Greg

If you have rras enabled and haven't followed this, then do so.
