Could somebody tell me why the server stamps the emails with the received
date and time at which they were dowloaded and
not when the email was actually received at the ISP? As of now, my emails
show up in blocks in 15 minutes intervalw, with the time and date when the
server received them. What I would love for it to show is when the email was
originally received at the ISP.
If Outlook Express can do this when downloading POP3, should the SBS be able
to do it? Is there a way to fix this?
The reason this matters is that my customer runs an E-Bay business and just
had a day of Internet connection outage. He called me to say that he is
missing a day's worth email. After some troubleshooting, I found out that he
was not missing any emails, but all the emails got stamped with the date and
time when the connection was fixed., and the server as able download it,
exactly a day later.

Thanks,

Attila

That's the way the POP3 connector works (it has to rewrite some of the
message header). I think popbeamer doesn't do this... but I'm not sure.

The only way around that is to go SMTP and stop using the POP3 connector.

True, but if you need to find out ..... right click the mail item and select
'options'.

You can get the times from the header.

Hi I think the reason for this is AFAIK the POP3 connector downloads the
e-mail and "delivers it" locally via SMTP so the delivery time is the time
is delivered a the SMTP server, so the last entry in the mail header is for
the delivery to local server. As Les said looking in the mail header will
show you path the e-mail has travelled to get to your client, with the times
it was received at each mail server on the way. As Javier said, if you can
go with SMTP.

Thank you all, --SMTP will be the next logical thing, SBS's POP3 has been a
blessing though.
