I have a new SBS 2000 server.

The remote dial up clients could access the previous SBS
4.5 server. The remote system connects and is issued IP
address and settings via DHCP correctly (DNS WINS mask).
However, the whenever the user name, password and domain
are issued the error "no domain server can be found"
occurs.

I can continue past this and ping the server. I can ping
the Internet router (separate) and browse the Internet.
The IP, WINS and DNS server addresses are correct. I can
access the Exchange Server and send mail (Occasional
retry required). If I use an invalid user name then I am
advised of that. I have configured the hosts and lmhosts
files on the clients with the SBS server IP and domain
name details.

This problem happens with Windows 98 SE clients and
Windows XP Pro (SP1) clients.

I have granted RRAS group policy access. I have
configured other Windows 2000 SBS RAS servers before.
(We have one in our office that I access regularly - I
have tested remote client access to our office server
without error).

We have loaded Windows 2000 SP4. (had error before (SP3)
and after) TCPIP only protocol at server or clients.

Have released network card protocols on remote client pc
network card.

Running out of options - any suggestions? Appears to be
a DNS or WINS issue. Client now needs to travel and
requires remote access with 24 hours.

Connecting via Win XP Pro.

In Security Log:
Remote Access Event 20192:
A certificate could not be found. Connections that use the
L2TP protocol over IPSec require the installation of a
machine certificate, also known as a computer
certificate. No L2TP calls will be accepted.

I do not require L2TP access as I am accessing via modem.
But I do not want to disable the VPN L2TP access ports.
Only the modem port is listed as active.

In Application Log:
H.323 Event 28:
An error has been returned by the <WSAJoinLeaf> API. API
error code: 00002751H. API error text: A socket operation
was attempted to an unreachable host.

H.323 Event 47:
Failed to create a RAS context for the IP address
10.0.0.33. Please insure that no other application or
service is using the H.225 RAS ports (1719 and 1718).
Context status code: 00002751H Context status text: A
socket operation was attempted to an unreachable host.

Have not been able to find any information on these events.

RRAS is set for Router LAN and Demand Dial Routing as well
as RAS.

When connected the RAS lists the connection as an active
client but cannot Browse Network to Server or MAP any
drives to shares on SBS Server. As stated can access
Exchange and IE Browse the Internet via external router.

Make sure you've done the regedits in 292822.

According to that tech article those regedits only need
to be applied on systems without SP3. The system
involved had SP3 and now has SP4.

Nevertheless I will try the regedits and check the
version of the RASPPP.DLL file.

no, the file fixes are in SP3 or later,,, the regedits need to made
manually.

Are those RAS-clients booting their machine with the logon credentials?
