Hello,

We have an SBS2000 server with Terminal Services in Remote Admin mode. Go
home and create VPN with SSH Sentinel VPN Software. Run RDC and conects to
server. Everything is fine for a while until unexpected disconnects.
Usually after about 20 minutes. Sometimes longer(up to an hour). Can
reconnect right away sometimes, other times cannot reconnect until next day.

RDP-Tcp properties/Sessions tab shows Override user settings checked with 1
minute. Active session limit: Never, Idle session limit: 2 hours, Override
users settings is checked for Disconnect from session radio button.

Why am i getting disconnected so often ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tony

Hi Tony,

Does the VPN connection itself drop, or only the remote desktop connection?
Assuming it is only the remote desktop connection, when this occurs can you
still access other resources on the server? (or ping by IP address,
computer name, etc)

Also, when this occurs, can you telnet to the server's IP address on port
3389?

Lastly, have you tested a client that is local to the server (and not going
through the VPN) to see if it gets disconnected as well? If the local
clients do not get disconnected, then it's a pretty good assumption that
the Terminal Server settings are working properly. Let us know what you
find out.

Hello Dana.

I finally got some information.

It looks like the VPN connection is still active when this happens.

Also, when it happens, we tried pinging three things:
The static ip address of the server - Gives 4 replies with
nothing lost
The static ip address with 3389 on the end of it - Gives bad
parameter
The servers local nic address 10.0.0.1 - Gives a loss of data
The servername - Gives could not find server xxxxx

Any help that you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tony
