I'm sorry for the silly question but I have a very fickle user who
wants to know the answer.
Files listed in his shared folder are of two different colors. Some
are listed in black and some are listed in blue. He is complaining
that the files listed in blue hurt his eyes. Is there a way to change
the color to just black? He also wants to know why some are listed in
blue while others aren't. I told him it was because the blue listed
files are older files that have been compressed. Was I correct?

You can turn it off:

Open Folder Options in Control Panel.
> Start > Settings > Control Panel. > Folder Options.
> View tab
de-select "Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in colour"

Well, can't say whether they're older or not, but you're correct in that
they are indeed compressed files. Have the user go to Explorer - tools,
folder options, view, and uncheck the box that displays compressed files in
another color.

Then wait for the next thing this user complains about.
