One of my customers asked me to look into a product called Desktop
Streaming, from a company called ExpertCity. It prvides for remote tech
support, includes chat and full remote desktop control,

Here's the link:

Has anyone here in the SBS NG looked at this product, or have any knowledge
or experience with it?

Thanks,

And how is this different from XP remote desktop? ExpertCity does
gotomypc...it's remote control via port 80 bascially.

I have been the "controlled" end of a Desktop Streaming session when I was
getting tech support for a product called SalesLogix. Not too unlike Webex,
other than being faster.

I can't remember the person's name but give their sales staff a call. Very
helpful and not to pushy.

I am also a big fan of Dameware (www.dameware.com) which is great for
troubleshooting users that are authenticated to the LAN (NT/2000/XP Pro).

Hope that helps,

The difference is that the systems we are wanting to remotely access are
external PC's at various auto dealership locations, some standalone, some on
their own network. Most have cable/dsl Internet connections. None of them
are running XP; majority are running W2K Pro.

We are looking at methods for allowing these dealerships to contact us
(read: me), and then being able to provide support and install updates to a
particular auto dealership software package that I am installing at each of
these sites. None of these PC have or need access to our SBS server.
Simply one way --- me to them.

Now I have been using Tight VNC for other customers of mine. I'm just
exploring alternatives since there may be additional needs and issues. For
example, it is NOT a given that I will have Administrator access to any of
these PC's.

...but if you use this product (or TightVNC for that matter) to remotely
drive the machine's console, what's the betting that the local user is
actually a member of the local administrators group? ... so perhaps you
would effectively have administrator access ;-)
