Check your server for open relay. I just went through this with a new
customer. They were getting those messages, NDR's and as things got worse
the internal email was taking up to 8 hours for delivery.
On this particular server, setting as per one of microsofts default settings
did not stop the spam from coming in. Tried several of their KB's. So we
took away anonymous access on the SMTP default server. The KB that works the
best for me is. .

How to clean up the mess . . .

Check your queue's under exchange and see if you have lots of items. Normal
would probably be 3 items up to maybe about 10 or 15 (15 if you are sending
out a lot of email right now, or possibly higher if you have some non
deliverable emails rolling around inside their.)
Hope this helps (and I hope this aint your problem.) If it is be extra
patient and plan on waiting for the smpt messages to finally quit wandering
around inside your system before they end up in the queue's.
