Setting from 'send on behave' disappear after restarting outlook
Hello, question.
-SBS 2000, 20 clients, Windows 98se, Outlook 2000
All works fine if the user just uses it own things.
Now if we login as the user on the local workstation of that user, and we
open Outlook select
the option within <extra> <options> <security> and select some users to give
those users the rights
to send on mybehave and save this and then look back into it, it is still
there.
But if we closedown Outlook and restart it again, the selected users are
gone, and trying (on the other
workstation to send mail from the other parties mailbox, we do not have the
right.
Anyone?

SBS 2003 migration to new hardware
Hi,
I installed SBS2003 on a server this summer and manually upgraded my domain
and machine accounts to it. I recently received a newer/faster server and
would like to "migrate" from one SBS2003 Server to another without changing
the domain and affecting users machines. Can this be done, and if so, what
steps are needed? Thanks for any advice!

2K Server Downgrade and 30 Day Trial Media
Hello,
I telephoned Microsoft in the UK and they confirmed that I could
"downgrade" from 2003 Server to 2000 Server in order to add this
machine to my 2K SBS Network (without buying any extra CALs).
Apparently, I should use the 2003 Serial Number and ANY 2000 Server
Std Media. Microsoft in the UK said that they could not provide me
with the media and suggested this should be available from my System
supplier (sadly, it is not). They do not ship 2K Server anymore.
Unfortunately, I do not have any 2000 Media (except the SBS). Some
posts on here talk about contacting Microsoft "Fulfillment", but this
is a US operation isn't it?
Somewhere at home, I (think) there is a 30 day trial version of 2K
server that was distributed with the 2K trianing kit. Do you think I
would be able to use that disk?
TIA

Profiles and policies not working after upgrade
Hello, I've just done a migration to sbs2003 and I'm having 2 issues.
Firstly the group policies aren't comming into effect. No got any more info
than this at the min, no errors no nothing! I backed up and restored my GPO's
from the last server.
Secondly when my users log on and download there profile form the server
they don't see all of the profile. I restored there profiles from backup.
When I look in documents and settings at the profile they can only see
certain folders: -
Users Documents
Desktop
Favorites
Start Menu
WINDOWS
They can't see: -
Application Data
Local Settings
etc
etc
I thought at first it wasn't downloading those folders but if I log on as an
administrator and click on the cached copy of there profile all the folders
are there, it's only when they are logged in that they can't see it.
It shouldn't be a permissions thing on the folder as they can download it.
It's not that they are hidden as I clicked to show hidden files and folders.
This is causeing outlook to fail as they can't see the application data
folder.
Anyone any ideas as to whats happening here? Not sure if theres an overall
permissions issue or DNS issue here!! Maybe on the wrong track though!

OT - XP SP2 changes networking slightly - watch out...
Hi all,
Just a short heads up on this.
XP SP2 *apparently* changes certain aspects with regards networking.
Although its possible that most people may not even notice this, we
experienced a particular issue regarding VPN working which I thought was
worth flagging up in case anyone gets anything similar.
XP Pro SP1 laptop would VPN into our SBS2K network - no problem. All OK so
far.
We would then connect an IP softphone on the laptop to our VoIP PBX [Avaya
IP Office] which resides on our LAN. Again, all OK so far.
VoIP operation worked fine both inwards and outwards.
Upgraded to SP2
Again, VPN in works fine.
However, although VoIP operation outwards was fine, inwards was VERY choppy.
We tried numerous things such as disabling the SP2 firewall entirely and
reinstalling the IP softphone, in case either of these would help. Neither
did. Ended up having to go back to SP1.
Have emailed MS about this and am currently awaiting a response.
From reading on various websites and other newsgroups, we understand that
there *may* have been certain changes to certain parts of the 'standard' MS
networking code and that various 3rd party VPN client software is also
affected by similar delay issues. Although its in the final analysis down to
the 3rd party vendors [in our case, Avaya] to resolve the issue by releasing
fully SP2-compliant versions of their software, I though it was worth
bringing to everyone's attention just in order to pre-warn them more than
anything in case they are running anything over a VPN which is
delay-intolerant such as VoIP.
Oh yes, the the SP2 Bluetooth drivers built-into XP don't support audio...!
<rant over> :-)

smtp mail dual-homed backup
Hello everyone,
Does anybody know of a company that offers a service whereby I might
be able to have my smtp mail routed to 2 different mail locations. Here is
my scenario. I would like mail coming to our domain to be sent to our ISP,
as it currently is. This mail is retrievable by webmail. I would also like
a copy of all mail sent to our exchange server. The exchange server would
be what we use for normal mail operations. However, if our exchange mail
server goes down, we would like to be able to revert to checking mail on our
ISP's webmail server, _and_ we would like that there would be a history of
all mail received even before our exchange server crashed.
You might be wondering why we might want such an elaborate fall back
mechanism. Our business operates with many very time sensitive deadlines.
Much of these deadlines revolve around emails. It would instill peace of
mind to be able to know that if our internal mail server was down for any
slightly lengthy period (fire, flood, hurricane), we would still have
immediate access to all mail, including mail we received in the weeks before
the failure.
I would also be interested in any other idea that you might have
that would have the same benefit through possibly a different method.
Thank you,
Joe Letter. Tag: Defragmentation Tag: 166022
Exchange old SBS2K to SBS2K3
The old SBS cannot be logged on to due to registry error.
They cannot find their SBS software to run repair. I
cannot get logged on in any way to move or perform a
migration of any type.
The situation:
I setup a new SBS 2K3 server with all the bells and
whistles. Got the company backup and running and they
started using their e-mail on the SBS 2K3. I have been
able to copy all the old data off of the old server, it
was on a spare drive, to include the priv and pub edb data
bases.
The question is; How do I put the old pub and priv into
the new exchange?
Can I use exmerge to export out the new. Drop the old pub

sbs2000 printer newbie question
I'm trying to connect a copier/printer to my network. The copier is shared
between two businesses, two networks. I have the copier connected into a
hub/switch, then into my network switch. The connection to the other biz
network works fine - they already had the copier hooked up to their network
and adding the shared hub/switch didn't alter anything.
My network is set up with a router and two nics. The internal nic is at IP
10.0.0.2 so all of the network devices and clients on my network are using
10.0.0.x. The printer I want to connect to is set to an IP of 192.168.1.99.
My question is, what do I need to do for my network to see this address. I
can't ping the address and I'm assuming there is an entry on the internal
NIC or LAT - somewhere. Should my network be able to see it automatically?
I know I'll need to create an LPR port when I try and add as a printer - but
I need to figure out why I can't see and ping the IP.
Thanks for any help.

DNS report on my exchange server?
After screwing up a few minor settings recently I'm checking out my
exchange 2000 server installation. Its been stable for several years and
had its first reboot in 18 months yesterday. I've found nothing further
amiss apart from some results from DNSreport.com? When sbs was installed
I ran some dnsreports test and these 'errors' did not occur. Since then
I've changed ISP.
errors are;
1/ mailserver appearing to be xxx.domainname.local and not .com?
2/ mail in domain literal form not accepted?
3/ no spf record?
So, .local instead of .com? I remember some ambiguity on how that should
be set up and its working now. Should I try to change it?
Domain literal isn't used by anyone I know sending mail to us so should I
ignore it..
SPF? huh. factor 30 or what?.. I see this was targeted for onctober 1. It
might explain why a couple of my mails recently to a large organisation
seemed to not make it although a delivery receipt was received. What's
everyone else doing with SPF? The 'install' procedure seems a bit of a
hack and the SPF wizard won't produce a record for my domain...

Problem with latest security patches?
This could be due to the manner in which our particular SBS 2000 server is
configured, or 3rd party applications running on it (Trend, GFI, and ISS
products), but in case not, it seems worth reporting:
After installing the latest round of MS critical updates yesterday (834707,
8 33989, 841356, 840987, 841533, 824151) our server would not reboot, except
in safe mode. Uninstalling the critical updates didn't solve the problem,
nor did restoration of system state, nor did five hours on the phone with MS
tech support, during which we removed all 3rd party apps.
Problem was only cured by complete restoration of the OS drive from backup. Tag: Defragmentation Tag: 165992

are there going to be SID issues etc to worry about? Tag: Defragmentation Tag: 165970
Q's on upgrade from Win Server 2003 to Win SBS 2003
Hi Folks,
I have a customer that wants to upgrade from Win Server 2003
Standard Edition to Win Small Business Server 2003. They also want to
move to a new server at the same time. Microsoft has told me that this
is an OK upgrade path. Since I don't have a lot of experience with the
Win Server products I was looking for some feedback on how to proceed.
I can think of two ways to do this but maybe there is a better way
still ?
1. Upgrade in place on the old server then do a backup and then a
restore on the new server. I am a bit concerned because it seems to me
that NT-derived OS's seem to not do well when mucho hardware is
changed, they seem to fail in booting commonly in these circumstances.
Perhaps a re-install (upgrade/repair) at this point would help ?
2. Install SBS on the new PC. Export all the user info such as
name/password info (can this be done ?) and import it in the new PC.
Xfr over the user data. Some how track down all the non user info
(networking stuff, ...) and setup that info on the new PC.
There's got to be a good way !
Thanks,
Denis

Terminal Services - Primary DNS Suffix option to DHCP
Hello everyone,
I'm having the same problem as someone else has had. I've paraphrased
it here:
>I've added a Windows 2000-member server to my SBS2000 to run Terminal
Services, after I try to log on using the domain administrator account and
>password, the "Loading your personal settings" dialog box is displayed a
extremly long time (like 20 mins) before the desktop appears.
>Log on by using a local administrator account works normally.
>The member server is part of an active directory enviroment. However, it is
not a domain controller.
They got the following reply:
>I fixed it by adding the Primary DNS Suffix option to DHCP, to reflect my
domain name.
The problem is I have no idea what they mean by this (you guessed it, I'm a
tinkerer, not a professional), if anyone could give me some guidance on how
this is achieved it would be greatly appreciated.

Adding email accounts with Exchange - SBS2K3
First of all, what happened to the SBS2K3 group?!?!?!?
I have a client that would be able to add various email accounts to

* Do you have to setup a new user account in ADUC in order to have an email
account in Exchange? If not, how do you set one up without entering it in
ADUC?
* Is it possible to setup a 'variable' email account to where anything in
front of the @ symbol is valid and gets routed to a specific account? (Please
note that I have advised against setting something like this up due to the
spam factor alone!)
* Is there anyway to map/route multiple email addresses to a single user
account? Could this be done with aliasing?

Allowing Client Applciations to be installed and updated.
In SBS2000:
I have added a series of applications to the "Define Client Applications". I
need to be able to allow users to install these client applications

Also, some of these apps (clients to a server app) detect an update setup

can you modify the SBS2000 domain policy to allow for this to happen - again

Blackberry
Hi,
I am in the process of setting up Blackberry Enterprise Server. We have an
SBS 2000 box with 2 NICs - the WAN NIC is connected to a Watchguard SOHO 6
firewall and this is then connected to our router.
I have been following the deployment guide, setup the BesAdmin account in
Exchage. I then planned to install BES onto a machine that ran Windows 2003
Server Std without Outlook client installed (as per the book suggested). On
the 5th page of the install wizard, named 'Blackberry Server Communication
Information' I enter the servername, SRP host as 192.168.16.2 (SBS's IP
address as it is the proxy) and the SRP as port 3101.
Now, on the Watchguard I opened up an outbound port TCP 3101 allowed by
192.168.16.2 and this throws back 'Test failed with error code (10061).'
Looking at the Blackberry KB, it suggests that an outbound connection cannot
be made. It requires that the outbound port 3101 should be configured as
'Bi-directional' (?what does this mean?) and I am deperately trying to get
this working but I am stuck! This is when I hit the 'Test Network
Connection' button.
Do I need to setup something in ISA Server Filters? We use GFI MSEC, DSEC
and I have granted srp.eu.blackberry to be excluded from the GFI filter in
ISA.
Please can someone help me as this is really bugging me. Furthermore, help
on creating a custom outbound rule for port 3101 would be helpful on a
Watchguard firewall SOHO6. I am sure I have done it correct, but I need a
second opinion.

Although we have NO NAT and 5 IP addresses, it seems that BT has put us on a
domestic account at their exchange as the IP address changes each time we
drop the line and re-sync.
In Internet Connection Wizard on the SBS Admin Console, I ran through the
wizard to setup our router (specifiying the external NIC IP for external
network etc...) and I cannot find the bit where you specify the SMTP server.
I seem to remember in the past, BT changed their SMTP server and I went into
a MMC somewhere on the SBS to re-plug this in - but I cannot find it.
Furthermore, although the SBS runs it's own SMTP service, am I sending mail
out through the SBS or am I using the ISP's SMTP server? For the latter, I
do not know where I should plug in the ISP's SMTP server address.
Please help. As you can see, our domain, SBS machine name and our email
domain-name are all different. Is this a possible reason why we are being
rejected by this recipient - are they doing a reverse DNS lookup and we are
failing somewhere? In which case, how can we test and how can we put this
right?
Thanks,

Installation of SQL on SBS 2003 Std
Hello,
One of our customers claims that he can't install SQL 2000 Enterprise on SBS
2003 Standard. Is that possible?
SBS 2003 Standard doesn't support other application?

WinXP Pro on SBS2000 LAN
So I MANUALLY added the WinXP Pro client to the domain of the SBS2000 LAN.
(Previous post 10/11/2004 12:41 PM)
I logged on workstation as the Domain Administrator and installed Outlook
and Firewall from server.
How do I get Trend C/S/M Suite to install the Client portion onto the
workstation? Seems that on previous workstations that when they logged onto
the LAN that it automatically installed...
Overview: Existing user is getting new workstation. Want to get it
connected to LAN, get all software installed and then exchange it with his
current Win2000 box that he is currently using. This pc (Dell) was bought
from a company that had a bunch of proprietary software installed and
configured to connect with their main office. I did a reinstallation from
the Dell WinXP CD to start with a clean box. Tag: Defragmentation Tag: 165928
Reg: Win2K SP4
Sir,
I have a licensed SBS 2000 Server installed as the Primary Domain Controller
in my office with only Service Pack 1. But quite recently, I have also
obtained a windows 2000 SP4 in a CD from our Internet service provider.
In this regard, I am not very sure whether I can install this SP4 for
windows 2000 to the SBS 2000 server or not. Can any one tell me whether it
is safe to install or not?

XP SP1, Windows update error 0x800072F78
For info, none of our XP clients will contect to Windows Update from behind
a bog standard SBS 2000 install (i.e. no specific ISA configurations in
place), post the install of the MS critical security patches in September.
Alternatively, it may be due to MS updates to the XP side of the
WindowsUpdate site following XP SP2 release. The error given is 0x800072F78
and none of the client fixes in the relevant KB article work
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=836985). W2K clients and the SBS server
update just fine.
The KB article does suggest a firewall problem and, indeed, adding a
temporary allow/allow all IP traffic rule in ISA is a workaround.
Any suggestions on a better solution (not involving XP SP2 at present) would
be appreciated (as would an explanation of what got broke in the first
place!)
Many thanks

NAT translation
Hi there,
I use SBS2k and ISA, would like to know the following:
I have heard people say are you using NAT?
I understand that my network should only have one unique external IP
address, say my address is 111.222.333.1 and can have many internal e.g.
192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.256 of which other networks could have the same
address'.
I also understand that this is to save IP address'.
However i am unsure how to setup NAT. Is it something which i need to install?
How do i configure NAT is it in the router settings? I know i have come
across this in ISA server

setup sbs2000 on a new computer to upgrade existing sbs2000 domain
Hi
I have to rollover an sbs2000 server to a new server that will also run
sbs2000. I want to retain the same internal domain name and also thesame
server name. Are there any pitfalls that need to be considered (eg SIDs for
the existing workstations) and if so can it be worked around. Is there an
easy way to do this? Tag: Defragmentation Tag: 165900

Using IAS to authenticate remote users....
We have a windows 2000 small business server. Due to the fact that we also
have a Watchguard Firebox 700 in our environment, I have not really looked
too closely at the value edded by configuring the IAS server.
However, now we are in a bit of a predicament. Because we are being 1:1
NATTED to our firebox by our wireless IP provider (where our public IP is
located), the java authentication applet running on the Firebox that a
remote user would normally run before they could get through the firewall
does not know the IP address of the actual browser that initiated the
request. It only knows the exteral IP of the Firebox which is a private ip -
not our public IP.
(Don't ask questions - it just doesn't work - Watchguard tech support has
told me so!!!) So, because of this we have not been able to authenticate any
remote users before they actually get to our production servers. ''
The only authentication (we user terminal services, Outlook Web Access and
have an FTP server as well) is when they actually have to supply a domain
username/password - and if supplied correctly - gain access to our Terminal
server...
I now want to change this so that a user must authenticate first and then if
authenticated, will be able to access the terminal server, FTP server,
etc... I really wanted to have this authentication take place prior to
hitting my production machines, but I don't see any other solution (unless
someone else has) to doing this... The firewall is obviously the best place
to provide this security feature...
What would I have to configure in IAS to provide this type of a thing? A
RADIUS server?
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
brad Tag: Defragmentation Tag: 165892
Can anyone suggest a suitable disk defragmentation tool
for SBS 2000 as we have several badly fragmented
partitions on our server.
Thanks
I just use the built-in defragmenter. Of people who use 3rd party programs,
most seem to use Diskeeper.
