    - Please Help: OWA over SSL on SBS 2000 I'm trying to get Outlook Web Access to run over SSL on Small Business Server 2000. I tried to follow the steps indicated in the articles on the isaserver.org site, but I haven't had any success. So here is the current state: I can access my company's website at http://www.mycompany.org both externally and when VPNd to the server. When I VPN into the server I can access the OWA site using https://www.mycompany.org/exchange, and everything works fine. I can check/send mail, etc. without any issues. If try to access the OWA site externally using http://www.mycompany.org/exchange, I get the expected error of: "403 Forbidden - The page must be viewed over a secure (that is, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)) channel. Contact the server administrator. (12211) Internet Security and Acceleration Server" When I try to access the site externally using https://www.mycompany.org/exchange, I get: "The page cannot be displayed Cannot find server or DNS Error Internet Explorer " Here are my settings: IIS ExchWeb, Exchange, & public folder Authentication set to Anonymous & Basic only. Require secure channel (SSL) is checked and Require 128-bit encryption is checked. ISA Under the properties for my ISA server, TCP Port is 80, Enable SSL Listeners is checked with port 443. The external listener is setup to use a certificate to authenticate to web clients. This is the same certificate that was setup in IIS. The certificate is for the site www.mycompany.org. Under Authentication Basic with this domain is checked, and the appropriate domain is filled in. My ISA destination set is called OWA and the destinations in the set are: Name/IP Range Path www.mycompany.org /exchweb* www.mycompany.org /public* www.mycompany.org /exchange* My web publishing rule is called OWASSL. Under the Destinations tab, the rule is set to apply to the Selected destination set. The name of the selected destination set is OWA. Under the Action tab, Redirect the request to this internal Web server is selected and the value is www.mycompany.org. Both Send the original host header... and Allow delegation... are checked. The ports are 80 for http, 443 for SSL, and 21 for FTP. Under the Bridging tab, HTTP Requests are redirected as HTTP, SSL requests are redirected as SSL, Require SSL and Require 128-bit are both checked. My hosts file has the following entry (where 192.168.0.1 is my internal IP and is the IP setup in IIS): 192.168.0.1 www.mycompany.org I'm totally stuck. Any ideas on what I could be doing wrong?     - Exchange This kind of goes along with the previous ICW I just posted... Getting email but may be missing some, as I've taken server on/off WAN to work on router. Trying to understand... SBS2k goes thru POP3 connector to retrieve email and then puts in appropriate mailbox with Exchange. Once in Exchange it waits for user to request from Outlook... That about the size of it? So basically anytime the server gets the POP3 mail it should be in Exchange whenever a user requests it. Is there anyway that the SBS2k server wouldn't get all the POP3 (other than when it is off the WAN)??? Thanks, been at this since 8 AM EST... Getting good and plugging and unplugging Cat5 cables!     - ICW SBS2k with all patches as of Friday, router and cable modem. Email is working but internet browsing is not. Not able to browse internet from any workstation or server. Also can not get at router setup page via any browser (workstations or server). If I take router off server and go directly to a stand alone pc can get at it and adjust.     - VPN connects of but can't browse the LAN Hello, I had to rebuild my SBS2000 server (6 hours). When I was done my external clients can connect via VPN just fine. Opening outlook on the remote client works just fine and the messages are exchanged with the server. Two things don't work and I would like some advice if you know what the fix is... Once connected and authenticated, a request to browse the network fails. And, we can no longet browse the Internet through the browser. Recommendations specific to the problem? Thanks!!!     - SBSCLNT.exe? What is the story with this being used in the logon script? I looked around the internet for some kinda explanation with no luck. Is this needed? What is it actually doing? The one thing that i'm concerned about is that i notice that it automatically puts that 'company' folder on the desktop. I was looking to have my own drives mapped to the users.     - Backup and user accounts I am running SBS 2000 with active directory. I have been using the default adminstrator account to run a few scheduled tasks, mainly to download virus definitions and to run backups. Whenever I change the admin password I have to remember to change it on these tasks. To avaoid this I created 2 new user accounts, gave them admin rights and asigned tham to the tasks. the tasks now fail. What do I have to do to enable these tasks to work under these user accounts?     - ISA questions Hi, I have 2 questions concerning ISA. 1) I set up the SSL for OWA directions as posted on the sbs2000.info site. We also publish a different website located on a seperate server via site publishing rules. That being said I can't close port 80 on ISA. Is there anything else I can do to block port 80 traffic on the SBS machine? 2) Is it true that, Site and Content along with Protocol rules only control how INTERNAL clients access the internet.     - Unexplained dial-up traffic. We have a customer running SBS 2000 using an ISDN (64k) dial-up for internet (through ISA) and e-mail (exchange). They have been having a few intermittent problems with outgoing e-mails where are being delayed quite often. The e-mails eventually get to the recipients after quite a while. Sometimes when e-mails are sent out - they arrive pretty instantly. We have checked everthing we can think of i.e. ISA protocol and filter settings and everything seems okay. One thing we have noticed is that there is a lot of constant traffic on the dial-up connection which is unexplained. We have turned internet access off for everyone in the company through the ISA rules and still this constant stream of data exists. Nothing we do can stop this steady stream which would amount to about 10MBs every hour. We have done a full virus scan with up to date definition files. Thanks in advance.     - SBS200 Licensing Hi I have a question about SBS 2000 and CALS. I know that there is a maximum limit of 50 concurrent users on SBS. If you have network with a SBS server with 15 CALS and 14 -16 computers. Some of these computers are laptops and are not on the network all the time. We've been having some problems where the server will suddenly denies access to a folder on the server. The only solution to gain access to the folder is to restart the computer and log on again. The question is, will SBS deny access to resources if you exceed the number of CALS you have? How does SBS monitor the number of concurrent connections and is there a way to check whether a computer that has disconnected from the network is not using a CAL. Thanks Tag: DHCP Tag: 124820

    - Login to domain problem I have a SBS2k server. I have a remote site with a few PCs. I have a VPN setup on a T1 between the offices. Some of the PCs log onto the domain fine, some say they cannot find a domain controller and logon using cached credentials. All are configured the same, running NT4SP4 or above and using DHCP from the Router/Firewall/VPN. They all can ping the WINS server in the main office. Any ideas?     - OT: Remote User protect We have a number of remote users that access the system via dial up account to isp's and then vpn into the system. With the problems that have been exposed via Blaster worm etc.. what would be the recommended way to secure these clients from attacks from viruses and port scanning etc.. I must point out that all the machine's have av software loaded and they have the latest updates automatically installed. Is the only way to have ZoneAlarm or other personal firewall software loaded on the machines. What do you guys use. I would normally expect remote users to have a hardware firewall but as they are accessing via BT OpenWorld accounts then they are unable to have multiple IP's. Any suggestions?     - Changing Password I am the admin user on a SBS2K network. I have passwords set to not change, however when I got here this morning it is askling me for a new password (password will expire message). I went ahead and changed it, figuring I can check it afterwards, but am contually now being asked for a password whenever I try to go somewhere (Internet, Exchanger Server, etc).     - Event Viewer App Log Loads up with PC anywhere and Perflib Warnings? I installed PC Anywhere on my server for some online support.     - Routers vs. bridges I changed DSL providers recently (from ADSL to SDSL) which required a new router. Connection to the Internet from inside the network is just fine. However, remote access does not work as it should - I can connect into the network, but cannot connect to any drive using TCP/IP. The only protocol that works is NETBEUI and I can't connect to the Internet using a browser at all. My previous ADSL router was set up as a bridge and I had no remote connection problems. I had thought to have my provider change over the router into a bridge, but they are going to charge me to do so. Considering that the router works from inside the network, I believe that it should be able to be accessed remotely without switching over to a bridge, but I'm at a loss as to how to make it happen. Hopefully someone can help.     - Making Distribution Groups Unavailable From To The Outside World Hello, SBS2K. I have a few distribution groups on my server for different departments (along with the default group that SBS creates that include everyone).     - Security Groups - How to Remove I have taken over a network someone else setup. I can't add any workstations to the domain easily. I have setup effective firewall and don't need or want all those restrictions. What is the easiest way to remove ALL Group and Local policies - figuring I would need to alter the "My Business" snap-in within MMC.     - e-mail help I am using SBS2K on a 7 node network. Siince our ISP or web/e-mail host doesn't provide MX records, plus the fact that we can't get any faster than 128K ISDN, I am trying to bypass exchange and use a 3rd party mail server program called workgroup mail pro. I have it set up correctly, but 2 of the client PC's can send and recieve internal and external mail just fine, but the five others cannot. I am using OE on 6 of them and Outlook 2K on the other. All have the same settings and the same software installed. There aren't any error messages, it seems to conect to the servers just fine, its just not pulling any e-mail from the ISP's servers. My server is assigned a static IP but its a DHCP server. I have the server's IP address listed in the POP3 and SMTP address box as the instructions say. I have ISA firewall disabled on all clients, exchange is pretty much disabled. Is using the proxy server for the Internet the problem, going through port 8080? is their a config problem with ISA? I'm clueless about this stuff. Thanks in adv. Dave BTW I will pay someone in the Dallas area with extensive SBS knowledge to "check my work".     - Internet Connection Came into office this morning and launched Outlook, only got email thru 1 AM. (EST) and No Internet connection for browsing.     - emails not received by exchange server Hi, I've an SBS server and a mac email server. My DNS is hosted on the mac, and on the SBS it's a secondary. On my dns settings I have 2 MX records domain.com MX 10 dns2.domain.com domain.com MX 20 dns.domain.com dns2.domain.com IN A sbs's public ip address dns.domain.com IN A mac server's public ip address When I send emails from external, on my external mail server's log it showed that emails are sent to sbs's ip but inside my exchange I can't seem to see any emails at all. So to test whether was it my DNS settings which is having problems, I stopped the exchange services in sbs and mails start to flow into the mac email server without any problems.     - SQL Memory Leak Hi All, My SBS2000 server keeps using up all available memory. When I reboot the server only fourty percent of available memory is used, but, as three to four days pass all available memory is gradually depleted until no memory remains.     - Public Folder sync from remote office Hi guys, I have a SBS setup in one state and the remote office in another state which access various programs through TS and a VPN connection. The connection is via ADSL. The remote office also uses isp/pop email directly on their desktops (not through TS) What I want to do is give them access to the shared company address book which is in a public folder on SBS. This should be easy enough through the VPN and it is.. as long as the internet connection in the head office does not go down. So my question is.. what would be the best way to allow them access to a local copy of this address book which is synchronised when they are conncected through the VPN.     - Software Assurance advice (UK) I wish to buy SBS2000 now and receive a free/discounted upgrade to SBS2003 when it is available. Can anyone confirm the following? To achieve the above I can buy SBS2000 (5 licence) now and pay an additional £99 for SA. This £99 "Guarantees" that I will get a free upgrade to SBS2003 (5 licence) when it is release as long as I purchase it within 2 years of purchasing SBS2000.     - Migration (SBS4.5 -> SBS2K) headaches - Recommendations? I'm in the process of a SBS4.5 to SBS2K migration, and stumbled upon a few issues that I can't seem to find an answer in any faq, article or white paper. Here's my current setup: PDC: SBS4.5 - dual homed, running SQL7, Exchange 5.5, IIS4, VPN (SMTP and PPTP ports open), OfficeScan SBS Member servers: NT4 Server Win2k Server - dual homed, IIS5 (FTP, HTTP and SSL ports open) Win2k Server - SQL2K The dual homed NICs on the PCs are on the DMZ side behind firewall, and SBS is not using MS Proxy Server. What I am trying to accomplish is this: a) Install SBS2K on a new PC with SQL2K, Exchange2K, IIS5, VPN, TM C/S/M Suite (same name as old server, same network addressing scheme - 10.0.0.0/24). This would be a temporary SBS PC. b) Replace the old SBS PC with 1 above to keep users happy and working. c) Upgrade old SBS PC hardware (mainly HD upgrades) d) Reinstall SBS2K on upgraded PC with same services and reimport data Basically I have to do the migration twice, once to a new PC, have it run for a few days while I get the old server upgraded, then reinstall SBS2K on the upgraded PC (this is the one that has RAID, the other PC doesn't). We want to be able to switch back to the old SBS4.5 PC if there is anything wrong with the SBS2K PC. I don't plan on using ISA, since I will be using the firewall as the gateway. Is there any advantage to installing ISA just to protect the SBS PC? Now some of the questions I hope to get answered are: 1a) Is there a way to keep the SMI (Single Message Instance) of Exchange if I am doing a new installation? I've heard rumors of being able to do some inplace upgrade by moving databases from 5.5 to 2000, and using the same PC name, users, etc. Am I dreaming here? I think I'm pretty much stuck with using ExMerge. The reason here is that I know that SBS limits you to an IS of 16GB, which may be exceeded if I move individual mailboxes. 1b) Does an inplace upgrade of SBS4.5 to SBS2K maintain the SMI of Exchange? If so, I can consider doing an inplace upgrade, then backing up the Exchange data to migrate to the new "temp" SBS2K PC (and then doing that again when I need to move the data back into the "real" server). Would this work? 1c) How about a site to site transfer from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange2K while both servers are up? Granted currently both use the same PC name, IP and domain name.. is there a way to do this with SBS and use the Exchange Tasks to do that? At the very worse, I can get around this by doing ExMerge twice.. Once when I go from Exchange 5.5 to 2K on to the "temp" PC, then once again going back to the "real" server. What would people recommend here? 2) Okay, done worrying about Exchange. When I'm ready to get the "real" server back online, and about to take the "temp" SBS PC off, how do I migrate the AD users and groups, permissions to the "real" SBS PC? Both PCs will still be named the same, as well as on the same IP and domain. Don't I need to use ADMT to do something like this? How do I pull this off? (Going to be reorganizing users into different groups than they currently are assigned when installing SBS2K the first time. I don't want to go thru this again when doing the 2nd migration, and I'm not sure how that'll impact the workstations..)     - Multiplying mapped drives Hi, All the workstations on my SBS network have a mapped drive E: wich is a share on the server. from yesterday all the W98 machines are remapping the drive, all the way up to drive M:, this hasn't occured on the W2K machines or the XP machines, the logon script doesn't map the drive E: (e.g I don't use net share....).     - hfnetchklt on SBS I am trying to setup something for my clients to manage their server and workstations for updates. The lite version of HFNetChk allows up to 50 computers which is perfect for the SBS network. I know it is recommended to install on a workstation to push the updates as this is what I do on my own network. But can it be installed on the SBS and accessed with Terminal services? I am thinking of installing it on the servers and access it remotely to administer updates. I know that I can probably take control of a workstation also but I didn't want to disrupt someone that might be working on their workstation. Any thoughts? Pros or Cons?     - <warning venting ahead> End user awareness To whom it may concern: I have a inside mail account and a public mail account [i.e. my pacbell.net account]. I only pull off email from it when I get home at night. Due to the number of SoBig.F, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. PDT, my 25MB mailbox got full of Sobig messages... I've now increased the mailbox size to 125MB...hopefully that will hold until I can get home. To those unlucky people reading this vent/rant... I'm sorry. Here goes.... a. In this day and age, to SELTZER COMPUTER, PENNY COMPUTER, and the 3 other identifiable computers that are nailing my mailbox with Sobigs, if you can't even get up to date antivirus on your systems, then unplug yourself from the Internet. You are incapable of securing the most basic of computer functions. We MVPS were pinging back and forth and all agreed that most of us are doing a 'every hour on the hour' pull of new updates from the Trend site. If you are only doing a once a day pull... you aren't protected enough. 2. End users.... You ....yes... you there reading this. If you get an email with a .pif attachment.... trust me... it's ALWAYS a virus. Pif files are never sent by "mere mortals wanting to send Word Documents or other sources of vital information needed to do "real work", PIF files are used in the same vein as .exe files and .bat files. Instruct your clients that even if you fail to do #1, that no one who is a sane person should click and launch a .pif file. Furthermore....... 3. You as the IT consultant network admin...yeah you.... PIF files should ALWAYS be be blocked and stripped off of all email files. I've never received a PIF file in that I've truly wanted.... they're always viruses. And if you allow your end users employees to open up PIF files... then do me a favor and before you leave tonight...yank your rj45 cat 5 connection from the wall so that my mailbox doesn't overflow by the morning. We can blame Microsoft for a lot of things..... this one is our stupidity. We don't HAVE to open up every attachment you know....some of them are NOT good. 11 more emails in the 5 minutes I've taken to type this rant/vent up.... 10 of them Sobig.F files. oh I spoke too soon...and another 10 additional emails hit my box.... all 10 out of 10 SoBigs. -- "Don't lose sight of security.     - Troubles accessing contact list from XP Pro Client. With OL2k2, on XP Pro client, I can not pull the contact list up from the dropdown menu or the fields in an email (To, Cc, Bcc) Though, I am able to get the domain email addresses. OL remembers all the email addresses, if I start to type in an email address not on the domain, it'll allow me to enter it after 3 beginning characters are entered.     - securing SBS (exchange) server Our SBS server has 2 nics, 1-adsl, 1-to network switch, running SBS 2000 c/w ISA. While I was on vacation, our system got hacked & flooded with email, & turned into an open relay.     - roaming profiles Due to the fact that the user group I am working with has very little experience with roaming profiles they have been using there desktops as a filing system for there documents. This has created some problems for us the profiles got to be and were timing out when trying to sync. back to the server. Now it looks like I have got all of them cleaned back up but I still have a few users that have goodly sized profiles because of info in there app data folder and I am wondering what is the normal size of a good healthy profile as there is nothing on this server to compare to?     - ISP Blocking incoming SMTP Exchange Mail This is wacky. We have several clients that have been using SBS2000 SMTP mail with the their ISP connection through Adelphia. Starting last Thursday, none of them were able to receive mail, including my business. Their MX record is forwarded from where their domain is hosted (not Adelphia). Speaking with Adelphia Tech Support (basically useless), they told me they have put a policy in place last Thursday to block mail to port 135 (not sure what that means)becaus of the worm virus. This is what eventually would go to the Exchange portion of the SBS.. Can somthing be changed on the Exchange end? there were 3 Services listed for DHCP
DHCP Client
DHCP Serivce ( This one actually is spelled this way and
it's path is C:\WINNT\System32\InjectT.3exe)
DHCP Server

Should there be 3 Services and is that DHCP Serivce a
legitimate file. It's set to automatic, but the status is
stopped.

Since we use static IP's, I never cheked these services.

Bruce,

The DHCP Serivce one I would definately be looking into/scanning (based on
the filename/location).. possibly may be a back door/worm/virus.. Check the
properties of the file to see it has any version/company/copyright
information on the Version tab.
