One of my SBS2000 sites. In DHCP manager, the computer icon in the list of
address leases has what looks like a fountain- pen on top. Any idea why this
is ???

Regards and TIA

It means "Active lease, DNS dynamic update pending. This address is not
available for lease by the DHCP server."

I'm looking on a 2003 box but you may have the same thing - in the DHCP
console, click Help, then drill down in the contents through Concepts and
Resources to DHCP console icons reference.

IMO the best practice is to never look at DHCP unless it logs an error or
you have symptoms of a problem : -)

Thanks dave,
reason I noticed it is because VPN clients get a randomly generated IP
instead of the correct 130.50.20.x via DHCP address which this server
happened to have. (To tie in with local UNIX box). As a consequence the VPN
clients cannot ping and/or net view etc.

Thanks

gary
