I'm running SBS 2K with alo SP's installed. My clients can't browse the
network. I get \\AVSERVER\Company not found. It's the same with any other
files. Under Windows Network, I see all the Clients but not the server
(AVSERVER). Any ideas?

Thanks Mike

1) maybe DNS
2) IsDomainMaster reg setting on server set to TRUE.

I have no idea about the Domain Master reg setting. I certainly haven't
changed it. DNS is set to use 192.168.16.2 as DNS per the MS website. It's
the local NIC. The nameserver is avserver.av and avserver is listed as a
host.

I'm out of ideas.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

On the server if you runn the following command from a command prompt do you
see the shares listed? Do you see share names such as IPC$, C$, admin$ etc?

net share

If you don't see C$, D$, etc then some possibities.. 1) a policy has been
implemented to not create the administrative shares 2) shares were deleted
3) possibility of infection from a worm/virus removing the admin shares

If you go to Start/Run on the server and enter \\servername do you see a
list of shares? Might also want to check to verify the binding order is
correct in Properties of My Network Places, Advanced/Advanced Settings menu
to verify your internal network card is listed first..

Hope that helps,
David Copeland
