I'm getting an error when attempting to add a computer to the SBS =
domain. The exact error is:=20
"Only part of a read process memory or write process memory request was =
completed. It cannot launch IPD2000.exe /u username /p***."

The computer is a brand new Emachines computer so it had to be upgraded =
from XP Home to XP Pro. There were no problems during the upgrade. The =
on site admin tried to add the machine to the domain prior to upgrading =
from XP Home to Pro and that is where the error first appeared. =
Unfortunately, the error still occurs after the upgrade.

Just in case it's relevant, when I started there were 15 CALs and 15 =
clients so I removed a client (from the SBS admin console) that was no =
longer being used. The client computer that was removed is running =
Windows 98 and I have done nothing to it yet (the network configuration =
has NOT been modified). Unfortunately, I'm still receiving the error =
above when running the Client Setup Disk.

Question 1: What is causing this problem?

Question 2: Can I add the computer to the domain manually? If so, is =
there anything more that needs to be done other than just running the =
Network Identification Wizard?

Thanks in advance,

Andy Nestor

15 client CALS has nothing to do with the number of machines on your LAN =
(it's concurrent network user CALs). You can check System Properties =
for domain membership and correct it if necessary from the client =
machine (logged in as domain admin). I've seen funny errors adding XP =
clients to domains using the NetBIOS name; so make sure you provide the =
FQDN name (usually, <netbiosdomainname>.com.local) as the name of the =
domain.

Don't run the client disk, just add the progs from
clientaps5 on the server.
