Client workstation on a new SBS 2003 domain. Workstation is using WinXP with
SP1, IE 6 with all patches and updates and Outlook 2003. Also is running
Norton AV Corp 8.1 and regular Adaware scans w/proper updates of course.

When the user tries to access the Internet using IE, she will get the error
"DNS/page cannot be found". This happens more times than not. If she clicks
refresh, the page will display.

This is apparently happening only on this PC (there are 11 others). This did
not happen with the prior workgroup setup, only since the SBS conversion.

It seems to be a DNS type error but since all PCs are setup with DHCP to
populate the settings, I would think that would be ruled out especially
since this appears to be the only PC affected.

Any ideas?

Bill

Hey Bill, I just reinstalled my SBS2000 server and was having problems
similar to yours. More so on the exchange side. I had all of my clients
setup for DHCP as well and had some connection problems. I'm assuming you've
already tried to ping that user who is having problems. The way I fixed mine
was by giving every user an IP, subnet mask, and pointing DNS to server. I
know this steers away from using DHCP, but it may be another step in helping
troubleshoot this problem. Hope this helps.
Best of luck to you.
Mike

Hi Bill -

Ensure that the workstation is pointing to your SBS (and only your SBS) for
DNS. Also, is this SBS Std or Premium? ISA installed?

They are using SBS 2003 Standard and Exchange is not active (maybe in the
future when I get more comfortable with that program).

Each workstation only points to the SBS Server for DNS.

Again, if this were something involving DHCP, then I would expect every
workstation to exhibit the same symptoms but this seems to be the only one.

Today, I tried deleting all the Temporary Files in IE, the files in the
Windows Temp folder, deleted all cookies, ran Adaware once again (nothing
found) and it was working fine when I left. Of course that is what happened
last week - worked fine for a while and then later on it started
misbehaving.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Bill

Hi Bill,

If it is only one workstation showing this behaviour, I would check for
spyware and viruses.
