I am in process of trying to install DSL service and in
the process have run into a situation that has created
some concern with my SBS system. I have followed the
recommended procedure by installing a second NIC. Can I
change the IP address on the internal NIC without messing
up the server? At this time of the year it is critical
to keep my server running without problems as tax time is
upon us. Should I wait until after April 15th to try and
do something that I may regret now. Any wise advice will
be greatly appreciated or any direction of any
reference. I have downloaded articles from
smallbizserver.net on the subject.

Thanks

Why tempt fate. You've got a business to run and it doesn't care what the
internal IP address scheme is. :-)

I think I'd wait until the tax season dies down. Just install the second
NIC for now and get the DSL service up and running. Then worry about the
minutiae in a couple of months.

Never a need to change the internal ip when you add a second nic.
There are about 15 minutes worth of clicks to change the internal ip
but no compelling reason to. Now if you were a consultant and your
server had the same ip as all of your client servers then changing the
ip of your server has some value.

I'll 2nd that.

For what reason does the OP think that adding a 2nd NIC requires a change to
his LAN subnet?
