    - Trouble joining PCs to Domain from Branch office through VPN (Cisc I have an SBS 2000 server at the home office, a 2000 member server at the branch office, the branch office has about 4 PCs, and when I try to join the PCs to the domain, I get the following message: "The specified server cannot perform the requested action". What is mystifying is that one of the PCs a laptop has already been joined, and works ok with no problems. Anybody got any ideas?     - Adding a second server Hello: I currently have a single server office running SB Server 2000. On that server I'm running terminal server as well as exchange server. The server itself is a dell 1400sc, PIII 1.4 gig CPU. Our proprietary software supplier has talked us into an upgrade of their software and the current server will just barely cut the specs plus I have to run sql server for the new upgrade of the software. So I'd like to post my idea how to deal with this and get some feedback from this great group. First I would keep my current SBServer 2000 acting as the DC and running exchange. From what I've read Exchange must be on the DC? I would buy a new server with server 2003 and set that up to run the program we are upgrading along with sql server. Finally I thought I'd take a green box and use it for terminal server. I'm not sure if I can do this last step. I think I've read the TS must remain on the DC so help here would be much appreciated. I think/hope I've written things out clearly. My reason for adding a new server and keeping the old is to make the change over easy. I think the toughest part would be setting up a new DC and doing all the transfers such as exchange and AD. Well thank you in advance.     - Outlook appointment change is not updating until taken offline / put online again Only got one user with this problem - they change the subject of an appointment in Outlook (running in Cached Exchange mode) while connected to the server. The calendar exists in Public Folders. When they save & close the appointment, their change isn't reflected on the main calendar view (one day per screen). If you open the appointment up, their change shows correctly in the subject line. If you change folders, or close & restart Outlook, this situation continues. Only by using the File > Work Offline option to take it offline and then bring it back online does the change then update on the main display. On one occasion I did this, when it came back online and opened the appointment, it actually said 'you have multiple versions of this appointment - which do you want to keep, the current or previous version?' I couldn't find this documented anywhere at the time, and now cannot replicate that message. However, all I really want is for items to update without any user intervention! Any ideas?     - trust relationship between computer and domain hi: i run win2k sbs which users logon to domain and they're by default "restricted users" on their own computers. i need to grand a laptop user access rights to change lan setting so that he can change the ip settings while he's at different locations. so i now try to set him up as power user. i logged onto the laptop as an administrator and tried to add the user to the power user group; but i received the error message: "The user could not be added because the following error has occurred: The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed." what does it mean? i can see this laptop from the server side but i don't see anyway to "trust" this laptop? thanks in advance, gary Tag: Can't remove delete option of users from server Tag: 177513

    - SBS2K and Outlook 2002 Hello, I am in a bit of a quandary. Lately, my pop3 client, Outlook 2002, is acting funky. I have two accounts on the pc, the 1st account is MS Exchange, the 2nd, a pop3 account where the incoming server is the ISP's pop server, and the outgoing server is the exchange server. A user will request email and "exchange" task will complete but pop3 mail won't come in. The task won't complete. If you look at the details, Outlook shows 70 Microsoft Exchange tasks but the sending and receiving of pop mail hangs, eventually I'll have to cancel it out or I'll get a timeout message that the ISPs' pop mail did not respond. But it works fine with Outlook Express. It seems to be related that it is very slow copying files from the domain server to the XP PC. Slower than usual. Don't know if upgrading to gigabit Ethernet will help. For example, today, Outlook said the task was 80% complete, and then it dropped to 50%. I looked at the webmail provided by the ISP and noticed that there was no pop mail go get. Any tips would be appreciated. This started to happen. The only solution so far is to reboot the pc.     - Using Shared Fax with the shared contacts from Exchange 2003 Hello, I have a SBS 2003 Server with Latest Service PAck installed. I have a public contacts adress list, the option listed as an outlook adresbook is checked. I want to use the shared fax of SBS 2003 and when using the wizzard i want to choose an contact from the public contacts list. My problem is that i have no option to select the public contacts list in the fax wizzard.     - SBS 2000 to 2003 Server licensing ? I just need to find out if I'm correct on the licensing for upgrading from SBS 2000 to 2003 Server. Current installation: SBS 2000 with 30 licenses. Only other component being used is Exchange. To upgrade I will need: SBS 2003 UPGRADE 20 pack of upgrade licenses 5 pack of upgrade licenses then SBS 2003 Transition pack 20 pack of Trans pack licenses 5 pack of Trans pack licenses After this the OS and Exchange will be licensed as stand-alone products with no artificial limitations. Am I missing anything here? I can't find any info on free disk space requirements for the upgrade/transition, are these documented somewhere? I've looked in the SBS 2003 upgrade docs that I can find but can't seem to locate this info. Any other hints or tips on pulling this upgrade off that aren't covered in MS docs?     - Migrating SBS2000 to Win2003 Standard I need some help in migration from Small Business Server 2000 to Windows Server 2003. We have a Working 25 users SBS2000 (we use only windows and non of the SQL, ISA, Exchange, ..) , we bought a new server and Win2003 Standard licnese. I need to move every thing to the new server (users, computers, data, ...) but becuase of the SBS2000 limitation we are not able to do so. To explain more, we don't want the SBS2000 or any of the componantes and mores (SQL, ISA, ...) all what we need is the domain it self (AD data). We need to disable the SBS limitation to allow the new server to function as a full PDC then we will remove the SBS. Any suggestions.Thanks for the help!!!     - DVD on SBS 2000 Though i'd toss this ? out. I want to install a DVD RW drive on my Dell Poweredge 1400sc over the weekend. The drive is an IDE unit and I'll replace the existing CD drive with it. I have software for the drive but am not sure it will work for Server 2000. Such a mystery beast these servers. Does anyone see any issues? On the same not i'd like to add a USB 2.0 PCI card. Again any thoughts? I'm also going to add a second processor, wish me luck.     - Leavers I know I have seen this issue before in the newsgroup but now cannot locate the thread. We have a number of leavers in our company who had exchange mailboxes which have now been deleted. They are still receiving emails which now are sent by default to the Administrator's mailbox because they no longer exist on our system. How can I prevent receiving the emails and dropping them into the Admins mailbox and instead allow exchange to send a NDR to the Sender.     - Alternatives to removing SBS My company purchased another company about a year ago. The decision at the time was to leave their infrastructure in place. My company is on a 2000-AD domain, the subsidiary is on SBS 2000. There wouldn't be any problems except that SBS does not allow any trust relationships. This is going to come into play when an ERP software package is rolled out, they are going to be sending/receiving data to/from my company via VPN. At the moment I don't see any way out of this except getting rid of SBS which will be a pain since there wasn't really a new server that was budgeted for.     - how to connect two SBS2000 servers Hi All We have two offices and two SBS2000 server networks. Both are set up for VPN access and can be sucessfully accessed from home. Using a client PC on one of the networks I can connect to the remote server but cannot get a remote desktop to access or see any files on the remote server. A laptop uses remote login to connect to the SBS 2000 server. Can the same remote login gain access to a cleint computer's shared folder that is connected to the same network as the server.     - FTP issue with SBS adn ISA I have a Small Business Server that has ISA as the firewall and I have a problem trying to acces a FTP site to download antivirus signature updates. The progrma is set to update teh sig file everyday but there is an error when trying to connect to the FTP site. the error that comes up in the log is 1211. I am no ISA genius by no stretch but everything looks good for all FTP ports. Is there a way to see if certain packets are getting stopped coming in or going out out? I really have no clue why it won't connect. What do I have to do to disable teh firewall (temporarily) to test this out? I have this AV software that needs to be able to update and with the current setup that's not possible. Any HELP is appreciated.     - Change useraccount, how to? hi I had to make changes to the useraccount because the existing names aren't present anymore. for example: changing account Barbara into Sophie I went to Manage console of the server, browsed to AD and go down to the folder User, selected the user, right click and then change name. That went well, but the problem now is the use of Exchange with it. Manualy changed the email adress into sophie@domain.local ?? and also changed the X400 record surname, into the right one. and the alias name in the exchange advandced tab of the user properties. On the client pc, i had to re-enter the exchange in my outlook, On the general contactlist, the doesn't change to the right email and user. on other clients in the network (no problem, has been changed in the right user) can send emails to that user, and receive them too... But I can't send any mail... Is this the normal procedure for changing an account, that you have to manual changing things, like exchange entries.     - Shared Contact Folders I have n SBS 2000 box that is soon to be migrated to a new server with SBS 2003. We currently have a number of Public Folders that are accessible by all staff. Many of them are used primarily for mailshot purposes (paper mail as well as e-mail), but it is useful for all staff to be able to access them via Outlook. The problem this gives us is when we are running a mailshot, we might sometimes want to include some lists of contacts, but exclude others (e.g. select all BANKS and SOLICITORS). It has been suggested that we move all of the contacts into an Access database that we would have to build. This would give us the flexibility of being able to perform queries on the lists, but would mean that only people who had Access installed would be able to read the information - and even then it wouldn't be as intuitive as it currently is via Outlook. We could use Access as well as Outlook, but that would mean updating the same information in 2 places whenever something changes. So, does anybody know of a better way of doing what I am planning with Access, or better still a completely different way to achieve the same goal.     - EXCHANGE:Forwarding a mailbox to an @aol.com account I have read several of the post. I am using sbs2k3 and need to forward one of my accounts to an aol account I goto user properties>Exchange General>Delivery options> checked forwardi emails but it will only let me put in users on my domain. Am I doing somthing wrong? I want to keep a copy onthe server as well but until I can ween the owner away from her aol and get her using OWA I need to see if I can get this working.     - Merging two domains I was hired a few months ago to a company that currently is using two domains. The SBS2K server (domain1) is being used as a web and file server. I don't know the whole history of why they did this, but at this point some of the users and all the computers have been moved over to the other domain (domain2). Our ultimate goal is to get rid of domain1. Domain2 has two DC's--one is Win2K3 Enterprise (our Exchange server) and the other is Win2K Advanced. We want to: 1) Migrate the users and settings from domain1 to domain2 2) Set up a DFS between the SBS2K and a Win2K Advanced server in domain2 3) Change both domains from mixed mode to Win2K mode. It seems to me that combining the two domains into one forest will make both of these goals easier (or at least the DFS). What "gotchas" can we expect in attempting these? Is my basic thinking sound? I've tried to review as much info and documentation as possible, but I'm not 100% sure about all of this. Thanks for your help.     - DHCP One evening a computer started to download several GB from a internet http site. I have checked the computer for traces of who it could be(Documents and settings, and ranked the last time edited). I brought in the computer to take a look at it. I could not find anything on it. There had been downloaded nearly 13gb from a internet site so it had to be stored some place. Stil I cant find anything. I also checked out in event viewer on my domain controller who had logged in this evening. I have checked out these users what they have been doing, and "cleared" them. I then started to take a look at my DHCP list. It shows that the computer I brought in for a check had got this IP adress during the night(I saw this when I looked up the DHCP lease time). I belive that the correct IP adress may be stored in a old dhcp list. I have complete backup of my system, so how do I restore a old dhcp list without confusing the one that is running today?     - Business Contact Manager update All, Is anyone using, or supporting a Client using BCM? If so, how have you dealt with backup, or where it puts the database(s) it creates? I have just got a copy, and put it (admittedly on a s/a machine) to see what you get, and to get an idea what I will be taking on support-wise. Standalone, it has dumped the MSDE on the local machine.. Fine as I do not have a Server, or MS SQL Server here. Will it discover and use the SBS component? - Talking SBS2000 for the first Client who will get it. Many resources (even Microsoft) seem to be dated back to 2003, when it first came out.     - Cannot see network shares via VPN I am running Windows 2000 SBS and have setup Routing and Remote Access so users can login via a vpn. I also have network shares that are being created via a group policy. When a user logs into the vpn they can intermittently view the files on the mapped network shares. When the user searches the network via the IP address everything works and even the mapped shares start working. This lead me to believe that it was a NetBIOS issue so as a test I added the servers and the local IP addresses to the laptop's hosts file, but that did not fix the problem. What am I missing?     - Fax service starts then dies I've started having problems recently with the fax services on Windows Server 2003. The service had been running fine form me for over a year. Now it can hardly run for 30 minutes without crashing and restarting only to crash again. My application event log has the following errors reported: Faulting application fxssvc.exe, version 5.2.2581.0, faulting module fxstiff.dll, version 5.2.2581.0, fault address 0x00059fd9. The Fax Service encountered a problem and needed to close. Error Code: 0x00000000 This error code indicates the cause of the error. A Windows Error Report was generated with full details about the problem. The Fax service will restart now. I am at a complete loss as to what could be causing these errors.     - Unable to save policies I am getting the message: The Group Policy Snapin was unable to save your changes due to the following error: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. It occurs when I click on apply on any admimistrative template's "Apply". I am also getting different messages between saving user or machine policies. On machine policies I get "Unable to save", when I select User policy I get "Cannot find the path specified" I have started using the Group policy management snapin on XP, for a Windows 2000 Server.     - DHCp in backup domain controller Hi I have recently discovered that SBS2000 can have backup domain controllers so I decided to promote one other server to create a fault tolerant environment. I have ran dcpromo on the second server and it seems to be working fine. However SBS2000 is also distributing DHCP addresses. How should I configure the backup DC to act as a backup DHCP server?     - MSSQL problem with BackupExec I have the following problem: I have a Windows Server 2003 installation and have never used MSSQL. I recently bought BackupExep, installed it and upon rebooting got the error: MSSQL$BKUPEXEC 18205 : ksconsole: Could not initialize console operation. I have no idea what this means nor what I could do about it. The people from Symantec didn't know either and told me to ask MS.     - roaming profile issue Our terminal server users have roaming profiles as we use two TS's load balanced. Today I had a problem with one of the users while he was loading his profile and in a nutshell, something is really whacked on the term server he was logging onto now. The profile server has the correct copy of his domain profile that he should be using. However, whenever he logs onto this particular server (the one he was logging onto when all hell broke loose) he only gets a very standard desktop - it is not pulling his roaming profile at all. When I look at the profiles stored on that machine (a windows 2003 standard terminal server) - for some reason there is two profiles listed there for this one user. I see one good one (based on the size it is showing), (marked status="backup"??) and one bad one (marked status = "temporary". ) This "temporary" profile seems to be the one that is being displayed for the user now when he logs in - and of course it has none of the stuff he needs... So, I deleted the good one, because it can be pulled down again from the profile server when he logs onto the domain. I then attempted to delete the "temporary" profile - but when I click on it, the "delete" button is greyed out! The only button available is the "Change Type" and if I go in there, the local profile option is greyed out. Where can I delete this profile as I am at a loss of how to get rid of this thing! Is it stored in the registry someplace? A quick search in there for his username yielded no results that made sense to me... Once I can get rid of this "temp" profile, I am sure the next time he logs on to the domain on this machine, it will pull down and create another locally cached copy from the profile server... i have win2000 advance server and win2000 client. i want to remove
delete rights of user when they map their drive. i can remove the
option of delete but when i remove that option if user create any new
file or save any existing file it automatically creats duplicate file.
what can i do? i only wants to remove delete option. and it is very
urgent. please help me.
