I am trying to upgrade from SBS 2000 to SBS 2003.

The setup in SBS 2003 will not let me because it says "Install Internet
Security & Acceleration Server 2000 Service Pack 1 and the Update"

I installed the service pack 1 and tried to run the SBS 2003 setup again and
got the same message.

I then isntalled service pack 2 and tried to run the SBS 2003 setup again
and got the same message.

Any idea as to what is going on and how to fix it?

Thanks.

You're missing an ISA patch that you probably didn't install because it's
included in something else you did install - it's a required patch that's
included in one of the SPs. I can't remember the exact details, but get
this "Upgrade Requirement Messages" doc
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c15e1da2-54e0-417c-b393-f114f1f2d732&DisplayLang=en.
Find the requirements for ISA, and whatever is not installed, install it
even though it doesn't make sense that you should have to.

If you're still having an issue, post back and I'll try to figure out the
exact patch that causes it, but hopefully you'll be able to find it from
that doc.

Hi Dave,

Someone, SuperGumby, on another newgroup mentioned to me that the easiest
thing to do was to just uninstall ISA before I ran SBS 2003 setup and then
just re-install it afterwards.

By deleting ISA I was able to get SBS 2003 to install.

I tried to re-install it and was asked during the installation to "Enter the
IP address range that span the internal network address space" It asked me
to enter a "From" IP address and a "To" IP. I did not know what to put there
so I cancelled the ISA installation.

I am just looking for the most common settings and the person who told me to
uninstall ISA and install it later suggested that I use the range of "From"
192.168.12.0 "To" 192.168.16.255.

He also suggested that I install ISA 2004 when I can get it.

Right now I do not thing that I have ISA installed at all, at least I don't
think so, and my network seems to be working. Is the whole purpose of ISA to
set up a firewall?

Thanks.

Yes, ISA is the firewall that protects your network from intrusion from the
Internet. If you're not using anything reliable for that purpose now, I'd
recommend disconnecting your Internet connection until you get something in
place.

You can install ISA from the setup screen on the Premium Technologies CD,
then run the CEICW to configure it automatically. I don't remember seeing
the prompt you're describing, but if the ISA installer makes you fill in
this information, on your SBS go to Administrative Tools -> DHCP. Click
Address Pool and use the IP addresses in "address range for distribution."

SuperGumby has installed SBS dozens or hundreds of times more than I have,
so if our advice conflicts, take his. But if you tell anyone, I'll deny
saying it : -)
