Hi All,

Has anyone run across this before ?

I have a client that has XP, ME, and 98 boxes. On ONLY the
XP boxes, they intermittantly get the above message when
use a web-based email. ( Comcast, Webmail, ...)

Any hints on where I should start looking ?

Thanks

Hi Stuart,

Check the ipconfig/all. Does everything point to the server-IP?

Hi Marina,

Hope you can help me again...

Yes, everything points to 10.0.0.2, the server.

Hi Stuart,

Got ISA installed? If yes, make sure the Firewall client is installed on the
workstations and pointing to the server and 'autodiscovery' is turned off.
In IE, LAN-settings, proxy should point to your server and port 8080.
2 nics in the server? Check bindingorder in Network connections, advanced,
advanced and make sure the internal nic is on top.

Thanks Marina,

I won't be able to get to their office until late tomorrow
or Friday, so I'll post a new message if I still have
problems.

ISA installed.
2 nics on server.
IE proxy uses "10.0.0.2" instead of server name(problem?)

Could very well be one of the items you listed is out of
wack.

Thanks for your help !

Hi Stuart,

Servername or server-IP doesn't really matter. Please keep posting in this
thread, easier to find for me ;-)

Also, if you are using RRAS, make sure you have applied the regedits in
292822!

If you are typing the fqdn from internal you will get the error you are
getting. you can get to mail using http://server/exchange or edit the host
file using notepad in system32/drivers/ect and add your internal ip address
mapping to your fqdn then you can use http://FQDN/exchange.
Hope that helped.
Peter.

Hi Marina !

Thanks, once again !!

The binding order was reversed. About a month after
upgrading for SBS 4.5, after a reboot, one of the nics
disappeared. After I reinstalled the drivers, I forgot to
check the order when the system came back up.

As a side, why were only the XP(H & Pro) affected ?
I'm guessing the network clients on XP were reworked
again ? Just wondering...

Thanks !

Hi Stuart,

Great! XP heavily relies on DNS, that is probably why they were affected.
By the way: you know that XP Home can't join a domain?

Hi Marina,

I tweeked the reg on the XP/H boxes to log on to the
domain enough for the users to hardly tell the difference.
They have to double-click a mapped drive connection before
they do anything after startup. At that point, they're on
the network.

My client had bought 2 XP/H boxes not knowing about the
domain issues.

Thanks
