I have a PC i use at home which has BB Internet access. I
use Norton Firewall at home.

The server we use in the workplace also has BB internet
access from the BB Router, we also use ISA as the firewall
here.

Considering both connections are 1/2 MB access why is it
that the Internet seems to be a lot slower in the
workplace even when i am the only one using it.

Is it to do with Web Caching or the Fact that we use ISA?
Can we do anything to speed up the Internet Access?

Appreciate any input into this problems

Thanks

The -Actual- speed can vary depending upon a great number of factors,
amongst them ( but not limited to )
the ISP ( and any throttling/ bandwidth limiting per time or account
type ), Download -v- Upload speeds, number of users on the ISP's and
upstream lines and the number of Bites they are moving at any given time,
the amount of traffic passing through the NIC and it's ability to handle
it, the amount of traffic passing through routers to/from the destination
IP, their efficiency and the number of hops required. The amount of
Filtering/Inspection of packets/content via ISA/AV programmes, the
efficiency of the HDDs to handle the I/O required to service the
volume/number of read/write requests and the amount of and effectiveness
of your RAM and the ability of the CPU to handle all "concurrent"
processes ( remember at work it's probably handling other Data requests
as well as the web pages.), the quality of the physical network, NICs,
Routers,Switches,Hubs ( a hub as opposed to a switch divides the
available bandwidth amongst all users ), Cabling ( and any Electro
Magnetic interference on the line from Power Cables, Fluorescent lights,
Photocopiers, Microwaves, length of cable runs etc..etc...etc...

That said, what do you mean by a "lot slower" ?

Is this a serious difference that needs to be addressed or just a feeling
?
Have you run diagnostic tools to quantify the difference ?
Are you comparing apples with apples ?

Henry,

Just wanted a general rundown on how ISA controls Internet
access etc TBH.
Wanted to know if there were any factors determining how
it could slow performancec down as the nework BB seems
slower than at home.

I don't suppose i am comparing apples with apples when you
run through the list of all your factors.
It's not drastically slower just a little slower but ever
so slightly noticable to a hardened surfer like myself.
It's nothing to spend any length of time though.
Thanks for all the advice/Info Henry really appreciate the
work users do on these web type forums..
