SBS 2000 CALs with S/W Assurance for SBS 2003, what SKU?

Hi All,

I have an SBS 2000 server with 25 CALS.

Both the server and the CALS are on software assurance (Upgrade Advantage
actually) until June 2004.

I now need to buy another 10 new CALS for SBS 2000.

I want to buy the new CALs with software assurance so that I am entitled to
upgrade the server software and all 35 CALs for no charge when we decide to
move to SBS 2003. I can already see our existing SBS CAL packs have SBS 2003
key codes on open.microsoft.com. I want these new CALs to appear on there
also.

Can anyone point me to the correct SKU code?

I think it is: E76-00206 for 5 CAL licence with software assurance, and
E76-00189 for a 10 CAL floppy disk, but they are priced cheaper than new
CALS for SBS 2003 which doesn't really make sense to me? :-)

Mark,

Do you plan to renew your current SA subscription on June 2004? If not, you
might want to consider buying SBS2k3 CALs without SA... I believe you can
use your downgrade rights to use them with SBS2k. It might be slightly
cheaper... I don't know.

The E76-00206 sku is exactly what you are mentioning for US (the other
one -10 pack- I can't find it).

The only reason why they are priced cheaper is because they haven't been
discontinued (not yet?) and SBS2k3 CALs are more expensive. If I remember
correctly-> one of the "laws" of SA is that you can only buy it with the
most current product versions (I don't know how it works on transition
periords such as this one).

Hi Javier,

Thanks for the speedy reply.

The other SKU is the floppy disk media for 10 CALs, not the actual CAL
licences themselves.

I'd appreciate if anyone could confirm that Software Assurance 'law' about
current version during transitional phases like where we are now?

I would not worry about that... if you find that buying SBS2k CAL + SA works
for you, your supplier have them and they are willing to sell them to you...
then go for it. The only reason I mentioned that was to point out that this
will not always be the case (in the future).
