What is the criteria for deciding how many CALs you need for SBS 2000? Do
you need 1 CAL for every computer in the domain? Are there any exceptions?

Can anyone point me to a good resource on licensing for SBS 2000? I've
searched all over and haven't found a straight answer.

Thanks in advance!

Not necesarily...

In general terms-> You need a CAL for *every* computer or device that access
an authenticated SBS resource. But, this is not limited only to computers in
the domain... for example, if you have a XP Home computer that uses ISA for
internet access, you will need a CAL even if that computer can't be part of
the domain. Devices include PDA... and stuff like that too.

You don't need CALs for unauthenticated internet access to the server or for
computers that only are used as secondary workstations (like home computers)
that only access the server to check email (and is less than 20% of the
time... the other 80% must be from a computer with an appropiate CAL).
