I plan to deploy 2 servers in my company. One is to be
used as firewall and another one as file server.

What option do I have? I read some where on the web saying
I can only have 1 SBS server per organization.

Should I configure SBS as firewall & domain controller?
How about security, since my company is link to broadband
connection?

Is there any best practise article on the web that can
refer to. Thank you.

Best regards,

What version of SBS2003? standard or premium?

Either way... I would get a firewall and put it in front of the SBS box and
use the 2nd server as a file/print server. Something like:

Internet
|
Firewall
|
SBS (RRAS or ISA)
|
------------------
| |
File print server Workstations

In both cases you will have 2 firewalls in place.... IMO the difference
would be that if you have SBS2k3Premium a cheap linksys firewall would do,
but if you have SBS2k3Std then you might want to get something better. The
file/print server has to be plain-vanilla Win2k/2k3 because, as you
mentioned, you can't have 2 SBS servers in the same domain. Just in case->
SBS needs to be a Domain Controller (that is not optional).

BTW-> What do you mean that your company is link to broadband connection?

I have more security issues with my desktops running with local
administrator access than I do with my firewall on my domain controller.

I haven't heard of SBS 2002 so I assume you refer to 2003. If you are
running regular then purchase a HARDWARE APPLIANCE as your firewall, not a
server as it will be more cost effective and reliable. The premium SBS 2003
will have ISA for you and a simple NAT router in front is fine.
