We have a SBS2000 network, and want to backup the server to the server's USB
hard disk. Does the backup program support backing up to this device ? If
not, are there any freeware, shareware programs that can ?

Appreciate information

I don't have direct experience with this. I suspect that if the disk is
seen as internal, rather than external, it will work--ntbackup supports
backup to disk or network drives. If it is seen as an external device in
device manager, it may not work--I'd test it out with a small test backup.

You will also want to test for speed. You might try backing up some large
files as a test.

NTBackup supports writing to files, and these files can be on an
external disk. Also there's http://www.firestreamer.com/fsrm/, which
makes a USB HDD appear as a tape drive, hence many advantages.

Hi

I am currently using Lacie Firewire external hard drives for SBS backup on
SBS2000 using the native backup utility (NTBACKUP). It works fine and is
speedy and has proved its worth recently in a restore scenario. I have a set
of 3 disks, used in rotation. I have had to create separate backup jobs for
each disk, but apart from that, no difficulties.

Cheers
