Hi,

I run a scheduled backup off the SBS to a file on disk
every evening, this seems to runs fine. However I have
never succesfully managed to get a scheduled backup to
run from the file to a tape. When the file to tape job
starts it complains about the media in the tape unit.
When using the Backup Wizard to set the job up I tell it
to overwrite the media and the name of the media but it
always complains that it is not the correct tape.

What do I need to do to get this file to tape backup to
run every morning automatically without NTBackup
complaining?

Regards,

Ken.

From our experience, you need to buy some 'proper' backup software for the
system. The in-built stuff wasn't very good, I recall. We bought Veritas
Backup Exec, but there are loads around - this just happened to be available
from a lot of the suppliers we deal with, hence no supply problems in the
future.

Get Arcserve or the like.

You current problem could probably be sorted by adding the /um switch at the
end of the line within the "run" field when you open up the scheduled job.

Mike, are you talking about SBS2000 or SBS2003?

BTW - the inbuilt NTBackup was developed by Veritas for Microsoft. At least
the SBS2003 works very well, and many SBS sites have decided to use it
rather than Veritas BE.

We had the same problem on the first site we installed.
Therre are several suggested solutions but none work
including the /um switch. The best soln we found was
Veitas.

I used the routine at www.smallbizserver.net with a modification to
the time stamp. I want to do eject and the hour time stamp got in the
way. You can email me if you want me to dig up a production script
that is working.
