I have an SBS2K SP3 server setup with ISA and a dial-up
connection to the Internet via a modem. The dial-up is set
to disconnect after 1 minute inactivity.

This is failing and the modem is staying connected. It was
working originally and has now stopped for some reason. No
new apps have been loaded and there are no errors in event
viewer.

I have checked for viruses and ad programs and none are
running.

I have applied the blaster and nachi updates in case of
those issues and have tested the server in isolation in
case it was a workstation causing traffic.

WHat I notice is that when the dial-up is monitored using
the systray icon every 30 secs or so there appears to be a
few packets, this must be the server as there were no
workstations running.

My next option is to apply SP4 ( sbs SP1a) and see if that
helps but any other suggestions or known issues would be
helpful.

regards

Steve

Check to see if the packets are in-bound from your ISP.

I had a problem like this from an ISP and the modem would never disconnect.

The ISP could not fix it so I had to change the Client to another one for
their dial-up connection.

No problems at all since since the chnage.

Regards

Mike

Thanks for the advice I tested the server with a new ISP
dial-up connection and it worked fine. The problem appears
to be with BT (British Telecom) in the UK. It only started
after the virus problems last week.

I phoned them but they were unwilling to help. I guess its
time for a new ISP!
