We have been using this for around 14 months now without any problems. We
backup a member server on our SBS domain (the SBS has it's own tape drive and
runs ArcServe2000 for SBS) and also two other clients.

These clients are running dBase for DOS which is a 16-bit application. I
have installed BAOF (SP5) and Client agent so that the member server which
has a LTO2 tape drive accesses the machines using IP (just normal of
ArcServe).

The clients (2 PCs called A and B) are backed up in turn. PC A contains the
program and the data is held on PC B. When PC A runs the program to access
datafiles on PC B, then when the backups hit PC A (to backup the whole
machine) we suddenly get Event ID:50 in the logs of PC A (Delayed Write
Failed) and the program on PC A stops responding.

I have raised this with CA Tech Support and we have not come up with a
solution.

Any ideas?

"Delayed Write Failed" can be caused by timing issues where, for example,
the sending computer is putting out data faster than the receiving computer
can accept it. I just ran into this with some external hard disks when
writing large files (archive PST files around 1gb or larger). Can you tell
if it's an issue that's only happening with large files? Another thing to
check is all the ethernet or whatever in between the computers, and that
both computers have adequately sized pagefiles.

Two comments: "Delayed Write Failed" is a Windows error, so this may very
well be unrelated to CA. Also, I believe that Arcserve 9 is at or near its
end of support - you may want to upgrade to the current version, 11.1.
Since you appear to have several CA products, you may benefit by going on
their open license program with maintenance - you'll get all the upgrades
and tech support "free" (included in the annual cost). I've been very happy
with this, particularly since CA's upgrades always seem to contain major
stability improvements.
