Hi David:
I wonder if you may have run into the SFN/LFN (Short File Name/Long File
Name) issue discussed in this newsgroup over the past year or so. The
following thread talks about a Veritas article which mentions the problem
you are seeing. I looked on the Veritas web site but it appears that they
have pulled the article.
Two documents on the Veritas site reference the article...
http://veritas.resultspage.com/display/display.php?requiredkeywords=mt_fcode_BEWNT+mt_nottechfile_true&w=235745&show_seer=1&ddProduct=BEWNT&ddOS=&ProductVersion=&show_pdf=0&show_news=0&SearchTerm=235745&rurl=YES&include_techfiles=&cnt=25&method=and
"VERITAS has recently discovered an issue that could prevent successful
Disaster Recovery operations of a Microsoft Small Business Server 2000
system using the VERITAS Intelligent Disaster Recovery Option. Please see
the following VERITAS product alert for complete details:
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/235745.htm "
Fortunately, the following Google thread contains the full text of the
Veritas article in question.

Restoring SBS 2000 completely from just a backup tape may not be successful.
This process has also been called a "Bare Metal Restore". As has been
suggested in this newsgroup, a more successful method may be: image the
server (periodically), restore the image, then restore the user data from
the latest backup tape.

My only suggestion at this point is for you to reinstall the SBS 2000
console...

As Jeff Middleton suggests in the Google thread just above, you should also
look for any other misbehaving apps and reinstall them follwowed by the
latest service packs and security patches.
