I have just installed Backoffice SBS 2000 with 5 CALs and
I have 35 more licenses to install, but the license icon
in Control Panel says "Not available in Microsoft
Backoffice Small Business Server. To add client access
licenses, choose Manage Server from the Start Menu and
select About Small Business Server." I do not have a
Manager Server option in Start Menu or anywhere else that
I can find. Searches on Microsoft's Knowledge Base and
Google turned up nothing.

How do I add the licenses?

Thank-you.

You must install the CALs with diskettes, they should have
come with the licenses, each diskette will install 5
CALs. I cannont install mine because the setup says that
I do not have SBS installed

You guys may both be in the same boat.

Log on to the SBS computers as Administrator.
Click Start | Small Business Server Administrator Console

If the above menu item isn't there, do this:

Start | Settings | Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
Is Microsoft Small Business Server 2000 listed there ?

If it's not listed, then it's not installed - the SBS portion of the
installation was never completed. I'd be interested to know where you
purchased your SBS software (oem, retail, preinstalled, or ?) and what
instruction you were given.

If it is listed, then we can correct the error.

I believe what happened with mine is that after it
installed Server 2000 I never ran the Setup SBS from disk
1 so it never finished the install, and now when I put in
Disk 1 and hit the Setup SBS it tells me that I cannont
upgrade this version of Windows to SBS (could be patched
installed since original install). So it looks like i
will be reinstalling the server again.

You don't need to reinstall.
Delete this key and then rerun the integrated setup on top of itself.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Small Business

You don't need to reinstall... just follow the article and try again:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=306934

However... I suggest you use the SBS Wizards, Intregrated Setup...the whole
nine yards. What happened to you is only the tip of the iceberg (in terms of
problems) if you don't follow the "SBS way".

Cheers,

Javier

Additional CAL install by Bill

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all the help. It turns out that the SBS
software was purchased used from a company that outgrew
it and they did not include the Outlook CD and Product ID
number which precluded SBS from fully loading and
allowing the licenses to be added. We finally recieved
the missing CD and everything is fine now. Thanks, again.
