I have got involved with a company who have SBS sever V4
running. Budgetry constraints mean they cannot upgrade
till later in the year, so i will have to do what I can
till then. They have had broadband installed will I be
able to configure the proxy server to run via a BB modem
connected to a 2nd nic or will I have to bypass proxy
server. Secondly I suspect it wont be possible to use pop3
mail with exchange server am I correct and advice (besides
upgrade!!!) would be appreciated

I SO hope this isn't really SBS4.0, the upgrade to 4.5 was free and if it is
indeed 4.0 I don't think it's actually possible to apply some recent
security patches.

When 4.x was current I would have gone with two NICs and put up with those
programs not working which can't operate through MSProxy. Since then routers
with true firewall capabilities have crashed in price and I'll suggest you
would be better off using something like a WatchGuard Firebox and a single
NIC setup. NOTE: I'm referring to a AU$2500 true firewall, not an AU$100 NAT
router.

re POP, it depends what you are asking. The SBS 'pop connector for exchange'
can pick up pop mail and pull it into the user mailboxes. Exchange can also
act as a pop server.

Yes I thought so with proxy I have pointed out the
security issues.

The pop3 are you saying the 4.5 pop3 connector will work
with V4

If you have to use pop buy PopBeamer. Works great.
