I've followed Kb 320697 & the last point was to install
hotfix 292822 - do I have to even though I've SP4
installed? If so & being new to this Registry editor
lark, I have come across a few niggles that I can't work
out. I can add the Value Name & Data Type but in the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlo
gon\Parameters - how do i add the Range? Is this just a
data entry of 0 in the DWORD editor? Also in the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Remot
eAccess\Parameters\IP - what data do I add? It says 1 or
0, 1=DisableNetbios. Do i just enter 1?
Next Question!! In the WINS database entries - when it
says delete the IP addresses if same as dial in
interface - is this the internal NIC subnet?

Thanks for your time & any input much welcome

Stuart

You don't need the hotfix, but you do need to apply those regedits.
You don't add a range, just add a value and give it the name
RegisterDnsARecords, Data Type should be REG_DWORD, value should be 0
For the DisableNetbiosOverTcpip you use data type REG_DWORD, Radix
Hexadecimal, value should be 1.

WINS:
Active Registrations, select Find by Owner. Select your server's IP, click
Find Now.
Doubleclick the entries for servername[00h] and servername[20h] to verify
that there is only 1 address in them.
If you see the IP of the dial-in interface, delete those entries.

Hi Marina - thanks for the advice. Just a quick
confirmation Q - The dial in interface is the IP address
of the Interal NIC?

No. Sort wins by ip. Delete any entry that does not have an ip in the
same network as your internal network. If you have a standard SBS
install every entry in WINS should have an ip of 192.168.16.x. Any
other ip should be deleted after you make all the edits in the
article. If your internal network has some other ip scheme you would
of course work accordingly.

Hi Jim - I really appreeciate your advice but I'm
confused. In Kb 292822 section 2e it says If the Ip
address of the for the dial up interface is listed (or
other IP addresses from the Internal LAN subnet) delete
these entriesfrom the WINS database. Doesn't that mean
delete 192.168.16.XX IP addresses? Sorry if I'm being
stupid but i am willing to listen to get it right.

As Marina says delete them all and it does not matter. I stop WINS and
I delete everything from the WINS folder. Do at your own risk but it
just builds it all again.
