FTP
Hi All, i have an ftp site set up for remote engineers. I
have set up a username and passwd for the user(generic
one)in AD. When accessing the site from the outside world
it prompted once for logon credentials. On another
attempt it keeps asking for username and passwd all the
time and wont let me in. Can someone point me in the
right direction please.
Thanks

SBS03: Client Install Issue
Compared to SBS 2k, this is harder to install.. I have never had so many
issues.`SPS Failed`I installed SQL and then SP3, then went to upgrade SPS
and SQL just sat`there.
The client wizard did not run on mine. After entering my username and
password I get "The list of users and computers could not be found on the
server. Make sure that the SBS network adapters are configured correctly."
My pc has an IP from the server.
Why is there two SBS groups? Why not leave them as one?

POP3 Connector - Global Mailbox
I have set up under the pop3 connector in exchange in SBS
2003 to grab email from my ISP's pop3 server.
I have specified that the pop3 mailbox is a global
mailbox in the pop3 connector settings.
I have then set up a routing rule that if the recipient
name is test then it will route to the "test" users
exchange mailbox.
The event logs show that the email is being received and
and being routed to the correct exchange mailbox but when
I open that mailbox the message is not there.
Any ideas on what the problem is here?
Thanks

SBS03: Local Profile Migration
How do I do it? I now have SBS03 installed and am dead in the water. All the

can no longer find the old, then copy to the new (overwrite) but I was not

The PowerEdge had SBS 2000, I Re-partitioned and did a clean install of SBS

External RAID5 for data
Hi All,
Not strictly an SBS question and also, to those in the know & that have
actually done it, *probably* a dumb one:-
Say we have an external RAID5 array with a number of NTFS partitions for our
data installed under SBS2k. We buy a new server and get SBS2k3 running on
it.
We want to decommission the SBS2k box and run the SBS2k3 box in its place;
what's the scenario for simply connecting the RAID5 array to the new box and
all data being available via it?
The data and directory structure etc will presumably come across intact, but
what of security privs etc?
Presumably, it's simply a case of re-applying shares and security privs?
Or - heaven forbid - is it case of reinitialising the RAID5 and restoring
the data (surely not!)?
On a related note, say it's not an external RAID5: what if it's a RAID5
internal to the original SBS box? Assuming hardware compatibility, can the
drives & data be 'moved' in the same fashion or is the container etc info
consequently lost (and thus the data) with the controller, thus requiring a
container rebuild and data restore?
Thanks!

SBS 2000 with multiple email domains (SMTP)
Hi
We have a SBS2000 up and running for a while now with three email domains
All users have the domain that is equal to the server domain as default email domain (ex. mail domain: ourcompany.com and server is named: sever.ourcompany.com). Additional to that users receive mail on company2.com and company3.com. These are simply setup in the Active Directory and added to the useraccount
How can I allow users to send email as user@company2.com or user@company3.com? I cannot find how to do that

Web Cache
I have a PC i use at home which has BB Internet access. I
use Norton Firewall at home.
The server we use in the workplace also has BB internet
access from the BB Router, we also use ISA as the firewall
here.
Considering both connections are 1/2 MB access why is it
that the Internet seems to be a lot slower in the
workplace even when i am the only one using it.
Is it to do with Web Caching or the Fact that we use ISA?
Can we do anything to speed up the Internet Access?
Appreciate any input into this problems

Symantec Ghost Dilema
Hello,
I have a situation that I am trying to come up with an answer. We just
installed a SBS Y2K server for an educational client that would like to
refersh the XP PC's after every semester with an orginal version of that XP
PC. There are a total of 16 PC's in this class and the students will be
doing class work on these PC's. When the semester is over we would like to
restore the PC's with an original image of the PC. The problem that comes
up is since the pc's have Windows XP, each pc has it's own individual
product key and in my mind this make cloning a problem with symantec ghost.
The PC's are all identical and I do not want to make 16 different images to
load back especially when at some time I have to apply product updates or
add other software. I was thinking about using sysprep with ghost somehow
but I do not see how I would use 16 different inf files. Has anyone come
across this problem?

Repost: Router on Internal LAN range - need to use AS WELL as ISA...
Hi all,
Hopefully not too strange a query here.
We have a nice working SBS2000 set-up here, Internet connection via 2nd NIC
and Broadband Router. We also have a PBX which also acts as a Router and
also provides some nice CTI functionality. Query is this:
We [or more specifically certain users on the LAN] need to be able to route
out via the PBX's integral router to certain customer sites. To access the
full CTI functionality of the PBX we need the PBX sitting on our INTERNAL
LAN range. By default obviously, any packets not destined for the internal
LAN get routed outwards by the Server - hence no routing to clients via the
PBX...
What I've done thus far is this:
1] Moved the PBX to our internal LAN [was previously sitting between the
external NIC and the Broadband Router - worked fine in that set-up but less
CTI functionality] and assigned it a fixed IP address on our LAN which is
reserved in the DHCP set-up on the SBS box. In the Router config on the PBX
I've entered a default route pointing at the Server's internal NIC address
so that any packets not for any of the PBX defined routes/addresses get
passed to the SBS box.
2] This has enabled the full CTI side - so far, so good
3] Re-ran the ICW and Internet access is working fine from both Server and
LAN clients
4] I've also amended the DHCP scope to have the PBX/Router as another Router
and moved this to be first in the list of router addresses provided via DHCP
5] From a standalone laptop without the ISA client, I can route to clients
via the PBX no problem - so it *appears* that the DHCP/routing side is
working fine
6] From LAN clients we *can* now ping remote clients using the PBX router,
whilst still having full Internet access via ISA and our broadband
connection
7] However, from my PC with the ISA client I cannot route via the PBX using
the PBX management software
8] If I connect a standalone laptop to our LAN side as a DHCP client, I
*can* use the PBX management software and route via the PBX router - only
change is that it does not have the ISA firewall client installed
I *think* that the ISA client *appears* to be the likely thing I need to
configure somehow but I'm unsure how to do so - can anyone provide any
pointers?
What I want [ideally] is to have all packets from any LAN clients going to
the PBX/Router initially and if they're destined for one of the remote
clients on that side, get routed by the PBX. If not, the packets should be
forwarded to the SBS box and dealt with as normal.
Or is what we're trying to achieve impossible?
Thanks in advance,
David Tag: Fax Tag: 144368
Email address issue
I have setup a new SBS 2000 to replace our old SBS 2000.
At the moment the box sits on an isolated network with the
same credentials as the old SBS - same servername, same
Domain name, etc...
So far I have only installed SBS2000 and I am currently
service packing the machine and installing Outlook 2002
for client deployement. I have not yet configured the
POP3 connector for Exchange with our ISPs details.
What I have noticed is that when I add a new user, his/her
email address becomes <username>@<domain>.local instead of
<username>@<wwwdomainname>.co.uk.
Have I done something wrong here?
Furthermore, when I right-click the user>Properties>Email
Addresses, the users only have:
SMTP: <username>@<domain>.local
X400: c=us;a= ;p=<DOMAIN>;o=Exchange..........
On the old SBS, the user has two SMTP addresses, the
second one being the public email address so POP3 mail can
go to that person: e.g. <username>@<wwwdomainname>.co.uk
Please can you tell me where I configure this.

HP8150 printer loosing connection to SBS2K after paper jam
Hi,
We've the same problem on several installations;
LJ8150DN (with a JetDirect card) configured with a fixed IP address and
connected to SBS2K server with all the latest patches and drivers. Usually
after a paper jam or format mismatch, the printer stops printing and is
indicated as 'not ready' on server printer page and the only way to get it
printing again is by restarting the spooler on the server - otherwise the
printer works fine and we don't have the same problem with other printers on
network.
HP suggests using their "Install Network Printer Wizard (INPW)" on server
(if printing from server is required) and workstations and creating HP
Standard TCP/IP port as opposed to a Windows TCP/IP port and printing
directly to this port from workstations. If I remember correctly there were
a lot of issues using HP software on SBS4.5 so I'm a bit reluctant to using
HP software. Has anybody else used INPW successfully on SBS2K server and
workstations without any conflicts?
Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

=?Utf-8?Q?Macromedia_Contribute_behind_SBS?=
Hi
We downloaded a trialversion of Contribute after a Macromedia seminar to evaluate whether contribute could be an addition to our other macromedia tools. We have problems passing our firewall
Our office network is using an Cisco 827 ADSL router, with firewall and intrusion detection. Traffic then goes to the outer NIC of our Microsoft Small Business Server that runs MS ISA Server 2000. The internal NIC on that server is connected to a Dell Gigabit switch that serves the LAN. All PC´s have the Microsoft Firewall Client installed
We use several FTP programs (including Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004) without any problem
We have several dedicated Win 2000 and 2003 web servers, but also are a reseller of Fasthosts (Matrix FTP server) and therefore downloaded the Contribute 2.01 patch and deselected the performance optimisation check
Symptoms when setting up a connection
- Connection Wizzard, Website Homepage: The dialog takes a very long time and displays error: contribute cannot display website (yes to continue)
- Connection Wizzard, connection information: Takes a very long time to complete the first bar (configure FTP settings), the second bar (waiting for server appears a few times very shortly
- Connection Wizzard, Remote path information: we can browse to the right directory, but at selecting the directory appears error: Contribute cannot verify your connection information
We downloaded the FTP Checker program which works perfectly on the same PC´s (it´s a pity the steps do not show performance (transaction times)). Please find results below
We installed Contribute 2.01 on a test PC that is connected to another ADSL line outside our LAN and it works perfectly to all webservers there. My conclusion is that there is a MS ISA server 2000/MS Firewall issue
Can you help? Anyone solved this earlier

Why are some performance counters disabled in SBS?
Hi
I'm trying to use some software called Monitor Magic to keep an eye on
my customers servers.
It works but I get bombed with warnings in the application event log.
The error is Perflib #2001 and the message is: The "MSSCNTRS" service
does not have a Performance subkey or the key could not be opened. No
performance counters will be collected for this service. The Win32
error code is returned in the data.
There's another with the same details but for MSExchangeIS
Looking into this using Knowledge Base I suspect that it is because
SBS has registry keys in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Current_Control_Set\Services\MSSCNTRS\Disable_Performance_Counters
= 1
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Current_Control_Set\Services\MSExxchangeIS\Disable_Performance_Counters
= 1
Can anyone tell me why?
Is it safe to switch these off by changing the setting to 0?
Any help would be appreciated

Force AOL email to a 2nd SMTP relay to or ISP mail server
2 nd News post
No we want to use DNS for main SMTP mail delivery as our ISP mail server
go's down some times.
So we use DNS SMTP for main & want to only route AOL to our ISP mail server
from the other SMTP relay I have setup in exchange.
Is their a way to force AOL email to the 2nd SMTP we have setup to relay to
our ISP mail server?.
1st Post
We have SBS2k with SMTP setup to deliver directly to the recipients email
address this works fine.
The problem we have is AOL will not take mail from directly our server so I
setup another SMTP for delivery of AOL email to relay to our ISP mail
server.
This worked for one day & with no other changes to the setup AOL mail is now
trying to go out by our SMTP not the new relay?
Is their a way to force the AOL mail to be routed to the new relay SMTP to
our ISP mail server?

I cannot find where the problem is.

Permission problems with AD, Exchange ,and SBS2003?
I'm having quite a set of problems with my SBS Server installation. In
installing Exchange on my SBS2003 machine, I get an error at the end of the
installation that the system is unable to create Distribution Groups, and
that I should try to create a group by hand to ensure that permissions are
correct, and re-run setup. I'm able to create a distribution list by hand,
but setup always fails in this way when I reinstall.
My event logs are full of this set of events:

I'm installing as the Administrator user, who is a member of the Domain
Admins, Enterprise Admins, and Schema Admins group, so I've checked that
already.
I am inclined to think there is some kind of AD related permissions error,
but I've been unable to isolate it. Can someone help point me in the right

Windows Installer Error in W2K3
I'm trying to add a TS Application Server to my SBS2000 network, using

Now I'm trying to install some software on the server. I'm using the white

I go into Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and select the setup.exe file
in the OF2000RK folder and get this error message:
The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you
are running Windows in safe mode or Windows Installer is not correctly

Obviously I've made sure that I'm not running in safe mode but I'm not sure
what else to try. Thanks. Jon Tag: Fax Tag: 144305

SBS 2000 and multiple service Problems
Today a customer has had trouble getting there e-mail/isa
working. In the services all the exchange services
(except pop3 connector), ISA Server Control Manager, DHCP
and DNS server all will not start. If I start them
manually i get a report of the service did not start due
to an invalid file.
I have tried restoring the ad (system state), but this
isnt working. I tired removing and adding both dns and
dhcp, but they still wont run. the rpc says it is
running, but some event logs seem to point to this bieng
an error. I tried running the internet connection wizard
for sbs,. but the ISA manager returns a fault too,.. I
have set the nics in the correct binding/provider order,
but still nothing.
Has anyone got any ideas? Tag: Fax Tag: 144291
remote vpn clients limited to server only
Up till today this was working fine.
now the vpn clients can connect to the server, get email etc but cannot
connect to others on the network. They can ping the server ip but any other
internal ip is not found. This means they cannot connect to our application
server and run programs. Help!

SBS to Win2k AD forest
Greetings,
I wonder if anyone has a definitive answer to the
following question. Perhaps it is daft, but I cannot find
an answer anywhere.
Does SBS 2k3 have the ability to connect to a full 2k AD
Forest domain?
The scenario I am attempting to address is to put a
SBS2k3 server into a satellite branch connected via VPN
to our forest root domain at HQ.
Has anyone tried this? Are there issues?
Thanks.

Outlook Install problems
I'm having problems reinstalling Outlook 2002 on SBS2000
client machines.
Background:
I originally installed SBS2000 and setup the (WinXP Pro)
clients and installed Outlook 2002 at that time. Had
problems with the server and had to completely rebuild
it. Temporarily rolled back the clients (but did not
uninstall Outlook) in the meantime.
Later when the server was rebuilt, I uninstalled Outlook
from two clients and then ran the setup disk, but Outlook
would not install even though it is listed in Add/Remove
programs. Performing a Repair or Reinstall did not fix
the problems. On the remaining clients I did not
uninstall Outlook before rerunning the client setup disk
and had no problems other than having to manually create
the Outlook profiles.
Have tried running the installation by manually
connecting to the share on the SBServer and running setup
and also from the CD. In both cases when I get to the
page listing the programs to be installed Outlook has a
red "X" next to it and is listed as "Unavailable".
Does anyone have any ideas how I can get Outlook
installed on these computers?

ISA alerts don't work on SBS 2003?
After installing SBS 2003, we don't get any ISA alerts anymore. For example,
when we used to perform a port scan on the SBS 2000 server, we would receive
an "Intrusion Detected" message. Now we don't get anything anymore. What
could be wrong?

Win2003 SBE - Remove Windows 2000Administration Tools?
I am attempting to install the Win 2003 Small Business
Edition server over Win2000 server. The installation balks,
saying:
Remove the following Windows components before upgrading:
Windows 2000 Administration Tools
What, specifically, do I need to uninstall, and how? I had
the support\tools utilities installed, but have
uninstalled them. I've removed just about all of the
components of Win 2000 Tag: Fax Tag: 144267

SBS server and cannot see any other machines on the network.
I am rebooting the sbs server to see if this clears it but does any one have
any ideas why this might have happened

Remove Shut Down Removal from Laptop... TServer ONLY!
Hello all,
I have over the last two days been working to 'lock down' our new TServer
using GroupPolicy. This is uncharted water for me and I could use some help.
I disabled the shut down command and it is gone everywhere including on my
laptop! I guess I need to somehow have this only apply to users that are NOT
administrators and I am not sure how to do this. Also I suspect that I have
mad either change to the default policy rather than creating a new one. I
could use real simple directions on how to either make the default NOT apply
to administrators OR how to set up a new policy and apply it appropriately.
Thanks in advance for your help

Active Directory problem!
Hi,
I have a Small Business Server 2000 with windows 2000 clients.
The problem is that I have a Windows 2000 Server with active directory on
it, to which is active as a BDC. For some reason last night the PDC and the
BDC stopped talking and now I cant gain access to the BDC except for logging
onto the Server itself.
Is there anyway you can remove AD from the server?
I have tried allsorts and I still haven't got anywhere. Every time I go to
use the DCPROMO tool it disallows me to uninstall AD because it cannot
communicate to the PDC (SBS2K box).
I have looked all over the web with no joy. So if anyone can help it would
be greatly appreciated by me and the staff who work with me.
Thanks in advance

More VPN problems
Right, we loaded service pack 4 and it seemed to fix out intermittent VPN
connection problems.
I am having a different problem now.
When a VPN client connects and I go into My Network Places to browse our
domain - the only PC I can see is the VPN client. Our server and the rest of
the PCs on the LAN disappear.
Hope someone can help.
Thanks in advance

Backup dhcp server & SBS recovery
This week had the misfortune to have two mirrored disks in a SBS2000 server
fail thus rendering the server u/s. I had another W2K server configured as a
domain controller to authenticate users however the main issue was that I
didnt have a backup for the dhcp server so clients could not get the correct
IP address allocation.
Any ideas on how to set this up would be appreciated.
For those who have not ventured down the SBS recovery route yet, I restored
the server from tape using backup Exec 8.5 and the procedure listed on the
veritas web site for manual recovery. I already had this to hand in my
disaster recovery procedures. The only issue that was not listed was the SFN
problem (again I was aware and had supporting documentation to hand) which I
resolved by re-installing affected applications + patches. Only one day down
time wasnt too bad! Tag: Fax Tag: 144231
Missing Mails
I have a user who's Outlook 2000 client hung, she used
Ctrl+Alt+Del to end the task on Outlook. When Outlook was
restarted all the mails in the her inbox have gone, all
the other personal folders are there & another mail
accounts inbox box is still there. Also the mail account
still works ok & will send & receive mail.

Encrypted/Secure email
Just curious ... with HIPAA and Gramm-Leach-Bliley acts ... how does one
send secure mail via SBS/Echange/Outlook? Are there add-ins to Outlook or
Exchange, or is built in and I've not found it?

Corrupted files - important or not? Help
Hi
We have W2K SBS all SP'd and patched up. It 'went into
one' this morning, loosing some clients with DHCP
problems, and eventually the internet.
On reboot it seems OK. However when I ran the virus
checker ot reported it could not scan some 14 files
because they were corrupt.
These were:
c:\progra~1\common~1\micros~1\triedit\triedit.dll
c:\progra~1\veritas\backup~1\nt\shuie.dll
c:\winnt\$ntser~1\idq.dll
c:\winnt\$ntserv~1\webhits.dll
c:\winnt\$n6bec~1\idq.dll
c:\winnt\servic~1i386\webhits.dll
c:\winnt\system32\dllcache\ieshwiz.exe
c:\winnt\system32\dllcache\perform.exe
c:\winnt\system32\dllcache\triedit.dll
c:\winnt\system32\idq.dll
c:\winnt\system32\ieshwiz.dll
c:\winnt\system32\perfmon.dll
c:\winnt\system32\webhits.dll
I am note sure whether to try and restore these files
from backup, from the MS cd or what. As they are in qhat
I consider to be quite significatn folders i am wary
about just ignoring this.
Any ideas opr advice please

Hi all,
I'm trying to configure exchange 2k (part of SBS 2k) for receiving mail via
bSMTP. I forwarded port 25 on my vigor router to the server. The problem is
that although grc.com says that port 25 is open, I still can't connect to
my mailserver with telnet:

SUS installation - initial mirror question
Hi
SBS2000 SP4, SUS SP1
I am running SUS on my server. I'd like to roll it out to my end users &
many of them including myself, use a 56k modem for Internet access. This
makes the initial SUS mirror take about 3 days. (In my rural location, a 56k
modem runs at 28k!)
Is there a way that I can upload the initial CAB files by CD? I can see the
\sus\content\cabs directory but there are also other directories which may
include details which should also be copied.
