 - master detail sub-detail not updating on row click I have a strongly-typed DataSet with 3 DataTables related to one another such that there is a 1-many between master and detail and 1-many between detail and sub-detail. The DataSet is bound to 3 DataGrids -- 1 DataTable per Grid. I bound like this: gridMaster.DataSource = dataset gridMaster.Member = "tableMaster" gridDetail.DataSource = dataset gridDetail.Member = "tableMaster.relateMasterToDetail" gridSubDetail.DataSource = dataset gridSubDetail.Member = "tableMaster.relateDetailToSubDetail" The DataTables are populating with the correct information from the database. Here is the problem: The Sub-detail grid does not refresh with the correct records when the selected rows of the Master and Detail change. Changing rows in the Master grid DOES change the Detail grid to show only those rows that share an ID with the Master grid's current row. However, the sub-detail does not change to show the records related to the new ID selected in the Master and Detail grids. Would greatly appreciate any help on this. Thx.  - Control when a new row is added to a datagrid Shortly after one starts entering data on the last row of a datagrid, a blank (*) row is created beneath. How can I control when this happens? For each column (cell) I've added validation. What happens when the blank row is added is that the Leave event of the current cell fires, in turn fireing the Validating event.  - Determine datagrid's currently sorted column I need to figure out how, in code, to determine a bound datagrid's currently sorted column and then to change it.  - C#.NET browser cancelling action on loading a page the first time We wrote a small C# web browser stripped of all functionality except for going from link to link to load a webpage we wrote ourselve as well. Everything is working great, except for a really annoying minor problem that must be fixed. For some users under certain access groups (active directory), on some machines, no matter what url we are trying to load, the first webpage loaded with the browser will return an "ACTION CANCELLED" page. For other users (usually ones with more rights), the first webpage will load properly. If we use Internet Explorer to load the webpage, no matter who the users are, the first page will load just fine. Basically, if we get an "Action cancelled" page, we can just hit refresh and it'd load properly. It's like the C#.NET browser is trying to goto a site that doesn't exist and cancels itself. In fact, if we "catches" the "action cancelled" page within the code and then reload the same page, it'd load properly. Any help would be wonderful, thanks in advance.  - Simple event question.... Is it possible to determine whether a SelectIndexChanged event was caused by a user making a selection or something changing in the DataSet to which it is connected? I checked e:EventArgs and sender:Object, but e is empty and I don't see anything helpful in sender. In my event handler for SomeCombo_SelectedIndexChanged, I need to be able to do certain things *only* if it was the user that changed the selection, not if the event is firing because the connected DataSet changed.  - How to create Multiple fields in a ListBox I have a class derived from CollectionBase. I would like to display the fields in the collection in the ListBox. The class has 4 fields of type boolean, boolean, string, string and I would like to display the booleans as check marks ( x = check mark). The output looking like: x x title 1 author 1 x title 2 author 2 x title 3 author 3 title 4 author 4 Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.  - Login dialog Hi there, I'm writing a .net Windows application in C#. I have 2 forms: the MainForm and the Login. The MainForm opens the Login as Dialog from the MainForm's constructor, and Login asks for username/password. I get these data from the MainForm and check using a Web service that they're ok. If username/password are not ok, I want to close the whole application, but I don't know how (this.Close() doesn't work). Can I close the app from the MainForm's constructor?  - Red Cross / Red X on DataGrids with Paint Override & BindingManagerBase Hello everyone, I am having a recurrent problem that I'm unable to find a solution to. Everyday, someone in the office using the application developed would get an error. After going through the error-trapping message, the DataGrid on the form would turn into a big red X with white background. If the user closes the form, and reopen it, the big red X will go away, and the error won't happen again. Even if they repeat exactly what they were doing 10 more times, the error just wouldn't happen. It's frustrating because I'm unable to duplicate the error at will. Some computers seem to get the problem once or twice per day while others have never seen this error. Some pertinent information ~ Every single grid has a TableStyle using derived DataGridTextBoxColumn. The DataGridTextBoxColumn overrides Paint() and paints each cell as specified. The code for the override is originally from http://www.syncfusion.com/FAQ/WinForms/FAQ_c44c.asp#q927q but we modified it to modify the textbox content before drawing it on the DataGrid. The changes we made can be found on http://www.rodtv.com/Class_DataGridFormattableTextBoxColumn.txt There's another thread on the NGs that I found via Google Groups that seems similiar. The paint override does use CurrencyManager, and according to Daniel Herling [MS], it's a known issue.  - Application Structure Hi I am working on an application that has several modules. Each module is represented by an icon on an outlook like list bar on the left. I want users to be able to select modules at installation and in the installed app the listbar icons should reflect the modules installed. The question is how should I structure my application in the first place (separate assemblies, classes, what?) and how would it relate to the installation wizard to allow me to do what I want to do?  - Restrict clicking child datagrid columns A windows form contains a parent datagrid (let's say order) a child datagrid (let's say order details) One user prefers to use the mouse to navigate between the data grids. When stressed the same user often clicks any column in the child datagrid and starts typing away. Trying for example to type the article number in the units column. How can I restrict so that whenever the user clicks a new (blank) row in the child datagrid the leftmost column gets the focus? How can I even check when that a new (blank) row has been activated? As far as I can see, the events for the datagrid fire only when the row has actually been added to a datagrid Or is there a better solution. Validation events only annoys the user and this question has become kind of a political issue now. So I would be grateful for any help.  - Unhandled exception on .ShowDialog() I have the following code: Dim BuilderForm As frmBuilder BuilderForm = New frmBuilder(_LastChangedFile.Path) BuilderForm.Refresh() BuilderForm.ShowDialog() And get the following exception on the last line: An unhandled exception of type 'System.InvalidOperationException' occurred in system.windows.forms.dll Additional information: DragDrop registration failed. Any ideas? I've tried compiling using .NET 2002 and .NET 2003 and get the same error. I wasn't getting this error when running on Server 2003 if that's any help!  - Using Visual C++ .NET based custom controls from the Toolbox Has anybody ever succeeded in making a custom control written in Visual C++ .NET available for drag-and-drop use via the Toolbox? Searching the Web and MSDN uncovered lots of helpful information. I learned that I had to put my control into a strong-named assembly and add the latter to the global assembly cache. Everything worked out alright: I could use my custom control from my test application as long as I added the necessary code by hand. But when I tried to automate this tedious process by adding Toolbox support to my control I seemed to bump into "C# only" signs everywhere. While I managed to put my control into the Toolbox, dragging it on a form results in a frustrating "Exception from HRESULT: 0x8005050A" message box. Is Windows Forms support for Visual C++.NET really that flaky? I would be very grateful for advice or pointers to online resources I have missed.  - Flaw in DataGrid Handling of New Records I believe there is a flaw in the way the Windows.Forms.DataGrid handles the creation of new rows/records. The observations in this post are based on a DataGrid bound to a DataRelation (specifically, the child side of the DataRelation). The DataGrid is a control on a data form which displays one record at a time. All the tables involved use autosequence fields with a starting value of -1 and an increment of -1 (so newly created record IDs won't interfere with the existing records in the underlying SQL Server tables). When a user clicks on a cell in the "add new" row of a DataGrid, the row gets populated with default values for the fields being displayed, and the foreign key field in the child table gets set to the current master table autosequence id number. However, the "row" does not yet exist in the underlying DataSource for the DataGrid. In fact, so far as I can tell, the row only gets created in the underlying DataSource when you move off the current master record. In and of itself this wouldn't be a problem, but because the "row" doesn't exist in the underlying DataSource, any SqlAdapter.Update() operation won't involve it. This also appears to lead to some odd "null object" errors inside the SqlAdapter.Update() method call. Moreover, if the master record itself is a newly-created record, a call to SqlAdapter.Update() will force the user to encounter an error when he/she moves off the master record. This error occurs because the SqlAdapter.Update() adds the new master record to the underlying Sql Server table and "assigns" a valid autosequence id number to the master record...which has to be different from the master id number appearing as a foreign key in the DataGrid, and, since the DataGrid "row" doesn't yet exist in any DataTable, the change in master record id number doesn't propagate to the new "row". .NET flags this inconsistency when the user attempts to move off the master record. Needless to say, this is quite confusing to the user. So far the only workaround I've found for this flaw is to block any attempt to call SqlAdapter.Update() when any DataGrid is in this "new record in limbo" state. Personally, I think that's a real ugly solution (made even worse because the only algorithm I could find on the web for determining if a DataGrid has one of these "new but not yet stored" rows is to compare the number of rows in the DataGrid's BindingManagerBase to the number of rows the master record "thinks" exist via a call to GetChildRows()). What confuses me is that it appears ADO.NET has an architecture that would allow the creation of "pending" DataRows in the underlying DataTable, which could then be either canceled away or not depending upon what the user did to the DataGrid. In fact, I suspect I could add this capability myself by forcing the user to click an "Add New Detail Record" button and wrapping the creation of a new DataGrid row with BeginEdit(), EndEdit() and CancelEdit() calls. But that's not as transparent a user interface as just letting the user click in the "add a new row" row of a DataGrid and start typing. That means it not only shows one property of the object but allows to edit it the same way as PropertyGrid does. It starts DropDown, or Dialog when there is EditorAttribute defined and some other things using TypeConverter. I implemented my own ITypeDescriptorConverter and IWindowsFormsService. Everything runs OK, but ... When the style of Editor is DropDown and the DropDownControl is shown, the first click is always ignored. The second one and the following ones do right things. I cannot find the location, where the first click event is eaten and why it is not send to the UITypeEditor. The loop I am using for wating for the event is: while(m_dropDownForm.Visible) { Application.DoEvents(); MsgWaitForMultipleObjects(0, 0, true, 250, 255); } if I change it to m_dropDownForm.ShowDialog(), the first click is not eaten, but I cannot react on the clicks out of the DropDownForm. The problem I run into is that the Windows Forms MessageBox.Show method does not show German-Germany response buttons.  - Mimicking the AutoScroll functionality I am curious as to how the auto-scroll feature works in the .NET scrollable controls. How does it set the view-port into the virtual space of a control 's draw-able space? I understand how to do it if I have a definable space (say like using a bitmap etc. with defined unchanging bounds) but am not sure how to do this if the region I'm using is infinite with changing bounds. I have a situation where the width and height are fully scalable and dynamic with other controls (that know how to draw themselves in the proper place on their parent control) being "drawn" on the virtual area. I can get this to work with auto-scroll (I keep changing the AutoScrollMinSize as it changes) until I look at the requirement that another control above it (same width) has to scroll in lock-step for the horizontal scrolling. The documentation states that you can set the AutoScroll property to true and then optionally turn off the horizontal or vertical scroll bars by setting the protected members HScrollBar or VScrollBar to false. In practice, it doesn't seem to work for me. If the AutoScrollMinSize property changes (which mine do constantly), it resets the values to true. At this point, even if I reset the variables back to false, they still show up regardless of how they were set and I have scroll bars where I don't want them. Here are my questions: · Is there a way to make the auto vertical/horizontal scroll-bars stay invisible with AutoScroll turned on (like the documentation states)? · If not, what is the best way to override this functionality to mimic the auto-scroll functionality? I'd really like to not have to play with the WM_H/VSCROLL window messages.  - MDI Child Icons not drawing properley - Sorted! Hi All, Just thought I'd post an update as I've come up with a fairly fool-proof fix for this issue with MDI child icon's not drawing correctly. By posting a WM_NCPAINT message to my main MDI Parent window after the child window has been loaded (with it's incorrect icon) I've been able to get the Icon to draw itself correctly, it's pretty much the same as flicking to a different window and back again, which effectively causes the non-client area to re-draw itself. It does involve using SendMessage from the WinAPI, but all in all it's a fairly simple solution.  - Determing what is closing... Hi! Have some problem deciding if a user is closing a form(by the "x") or it is the application that is closing. I have a main form, and it has many chidforms. Since my childforms contains quite a lot of timers and threads, they need a "personal" closing method. When a form is opened this closing method is set to catch the closing event. This works just fine. When the form is closed by the user, a variable(IsActive) is set to false and saved to an object that holds data, that on shutdown is saved to disk. The problem is that this method is also called when the app is shuting down, and i can't find a way to determine if the user is closing the form on the "x" or the app is closing due to a click on the main forms "x". The first event, generated by the app is shuting down, is the "threadExit" event, but all events concerning shuting down the app is called AFTER the closing event on the child forms. For that I created three images, one for released, pushed and disabled state. At the Paint event I want to draw the correct image and give the corresponding shape. However, I don't know, how to determine, whether the button is currently pushed or not. I only get a Click event when the button was pushed and released again, but the Pushed image should already be painted when the button is pushed and before it is released again. What I need is something like a ButtonPushed and a ButtonReleased event.  - Validation events suddenly disappear No guys of Microsoft here ?? I have a winform, with text boxes, combo boxes and list boxes. In my text boxes (and only in them), I have defined the validating event, so I can verify if the value entered is correct. If it's not correct, I set e.Cancel to true and all other events are cancelled. That's OK ... Except that I clear the contents of the list boxes and combo boxes very often and suddenly .... No more validation events in the text boxes are fired !!! The Leave event is still fired, but that's all. Could someone from microsoft answer clearly about the strange behaviour of validation. There are many posts in this newsgroup about validation not working as expected and I see no answer from microsoft.  - Datagrid and currentcellchanged event Hi all, I'm having problems with datagrids and the currentcellchanged event. My problem is this: I have a datagrid on a form, if the user changes the text in a cell on the datagrid then tries to close the form via a button on the toolbar (with going to another cell in the datagrid)I want to be able to popup a messagebox to the user asking them if they want to keep their changes. At the momment I'm accomplishing this by a property that I set to true in the currentcellchanged event. However if the user just tabs around the datagrid this event is triggered even though though from the user's point of view they haven't changed any text. I still want the user to be able to tab around the datagrid but perhaps not have the tab key trigger the currentcellchanged event. Is this possible? Another way I have thought of doing this is by trying to get the current datagrid cell's value (using datagrid.text) and then comparing it to the underlaying datasource's value for that cell (& if the 2 are different then setting my property to true). However I can't find a way of getting hold of the datagrid's datasource's value for the current datagrid cell. Any ideas would be most gratefully received - one more thing - my datagrid is a custom control and I would like the above functionality to be included within the custom control rather than the form that it sits on. Specially, because this editor handle multiple file
format, a file will be open by solution Explorer and
correspoding Editor form shoud be opened. As an object is
modifid by properties box in VS, so is the object inside
file.
